January 1, 2017 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - "Confessions of an Islamophobe" is Dr. Robert Spencer's 17th book and reestablishes him - as if it were necessary - as one of the nation's foremost authorities on Islam. For readers who are just beginning a study of Islam as well as those who are already well-informed but want to fill-in some gaps, Dr. Spencer is the go-to writer. To be sure he is a presence in many venues, but for the sake of brevity, I will analyze only his latest work.
The book’s title is very appropriate, chosen to put "Islamophobe" into proper focus as a term used by Muslims and their non-Muslim sycophants with the intention of stifling, or preferably extinguishing, any rational discussion or debate regarding the dangers inherent in the Islamic faith.
The term itself, “Islamophobia” was originally conjured up as part of the leftist/Islamist tactic of weaponizing language, done under the theory that he who controls the language, controls the dialogue and he who controls the dialogue will prevail in any argument pertaining to it.
In stark contrast to Western judicial principles, simply telling the truth is not a defense against the charge by Muslims of religious and ethnic bigotry and hatred, as if all incriminating evidence against guilty defendants were perpetually ruled inadmissible.
For thousands of years [for example, Sun Tzu’s Art of War, circa 500BC] one of the most basic principles for nations at war is to be able to name the threat as well as to understand as much as possible about the enemy’s ideology. Failure to do so makes it impossible to develop what military planners call a “threat doctrine” from which is crafted a plan to combat the enemy not only kinetically on the battlefield but in the larger and often more important intellectual war of ideas.
Spencer’s book is divided into chapters, each one devoted to a group particularly threatened by Islamic expansionism - women, gays, Jews, Christians, secular liberals and even [non-right-thinking] secular Muslims. Throughout the work, the author illustrates his argument in the light of both current events and history as well as citing the classical Islamic jurisprudence [found in the Qur’an, the Hadith, and Seerah] concerning what are the appropriate actions that may be taken against their numerous perceived enemies.
Spencer makes clear that today’s persecution of Christians in Muslim majority lands is one of the most under-reported tragedies of our time. Even the Pope has mentioned them only in passing, saving his Encyclicals [pastoral teaching letters] for leftist claptrap such as climate change.
Spencer quotes, Amel Shimoun Nona, the Chaldean Catholic Archbishop of Mosul who predicts the possible fate that awaits the West if it continues its near religious zealotry in pursuit of multiculturalism.
"Our sufferings today are the prelude of those you, Europeans and Western Christians, will also suffer in the near future."
In a less heroic example, Dr. Spencer cites British Prime Minister Theresa May, who recently told an audience at a luncheon for the Friends of Israel, that she had banned the entry of Spencer, Pamela Geller and Pastor Terry Jones into Britain, conflating their textbook correct understanding of the Islamic threat with the hateful ideology of the jihadists, claiming, "It is why I kicked out Abu Hamza and Abu Qatada1 as well."
The book begins with the author's journey to “Islamophobia” and ends with a description of “modern liberal man's” failure to correctly interpret reality. Indeed, this large "L" contemporary liberal’s “rational world” is largely manufactured for him by the left.
In closing Dr. Spencer defends the classical liberal’s pursuit of objective truth assuring the reader:
"And so, despite all the vilification, all the marginalization, all the peer pressure and all the shaming, this Islamophobe is not ashamed and will never be ashamed of sounding the alarm"
How very fortunate for the reader and for the West.
1. May is being a little more than disingenuous here, she didn't “kick out” Abu Hamza [Abu Hamza al-Masri]. He was finally extradited to the United States after a decade long fight between the U.S. and the Euro’s non-elected Belgian government, whereupon he was convicted of numerous charges of terrorism and sentenced to life, Qatada was similarly coddled for over a decade before he was released under order of a British court and immediately went to ground somewhere in the Middle East.]
