Former Kenyan Ambassador Gration Pushes Myth That Terrorism Is Driven By Lack Of Economic Opportunity

April 6, 2015 – San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org – Upon reading the April 3 Time Magazine article written by the former ambassador to Kenya, Scott Gration [nominated by President Obama and then serving only 13 months on assignment, allegedly fired by then Secty of State Clinton over the same personal email issues which continue to plague her. Leaked, internal State Dept. documents reportedly claim that Gration was “ineffective,” “divisive” and “had lost the respect and confidence of his staff”] it’s easy to understand why he was one of Obama top echelon campaign advisors on military issues…he’s politically naïve at best and apparently knows little about the dynamics of the global Islamic jihad, despite having served meritoriously in Iraq.

Kenya is overwhelmingly a Christian nation ; over 80% of the population identifies with one of the faith’s major sects. Since 2011, the country has been under assault by the Islamic terror group Al-Shabaab. We are sure it’s just an odd coincidence that all of this began in the time frame during which Gration served as ambassador.

It seems that Gration’s piece was timed to blunt some of the impact of Al-Shabaab’s April 2 attack on Garissa University College , which killed nearly 150, the worst terror attack in the nation’s history. Though authored under Gration’s byline, the copy could just as well have been written by the Kenyan Tourist Authority.

An excerpt:

“Kenya is beginning to deal with the underlying enablers of terrorism in the country. While it still has a long way to go, Kenya has begun to crack down on corruption…By focusing on economic delivery though an integrated strategy and plan, the society will be transformed, and terrorists will lose their foothold in the region. What the former ambassador fails to mention is that this level of Islamic mayhem has not been uncommon over the last 4 years, nor was it the most horrific display of barbarism, a relative term when dealing with Al-Shabaab. On that aspect, please refer to What The Media Refuses To Print - "Jihadist Ritual Murder and Mutilation at the Mall,” the article contains a partial description of what was done to the poor unfortunates at the mall and a link to another document which goes into further detail. For the uninitiated in these matters we urge extreme CAUTION, the description therein is so graphically monstrous it will likely turn your stomach.

Gration’s apologetics are risible, not surprising considering his association with Team Obama. What is troubling however is that such a piece would be published at all in a national forum.

Gration’s lack of candor, exceedingly poor judgment while in the diplomatic corps and denial regarding the nature of the Islamist threat is to be expected, it mirrors that of his former boss who continues to maintain that none of this matters to the United States, that somehow we are immune to the contagion which inexorably is marching towards our shores.
