The Huma Abedin Question Must Be Revisited As Part Of Benghazi Investigation

May 14, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – – As noted yesterday by Frank Gaffney, President of the Center for Security Policy, one aspect of the Benghazi tragedy which has largely escaped scrutiny is what role did Huma Abedin have in forming then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s approach to dealing with the Muslim world?

“Curiously absent from this reexamination of Mrs. Clinton’s record, however, is any mention of the role played in it by Huma Abedin. She’s the longtime advisor to Hillary with family and personal ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. That’s the preeminent jihadist organization sworn to our destruction, a cause advanced by each of these strategic errors.” [source, Frank Gaffney, What About Huma?, Center for Security Policy]

One of those familial ties is through Huma’s mother, as Front Page Magazine reports:

“…Dr. Saleha Mahmood Abedin has been identified in Saudi Arabia as one of the founding members of the Muslim Sisterhood, a Muslim Brotherhood women’s group…” [source, Nonie Darwish, Huma Abedin’s Mother and an Islamist Agenda , Front Page Magazine]

Writing for National Review, former Federal Prosecutor Andrew C. McCarthy [the man who put the terrorist “Blind Sheikh,” Omar Abdel Rahman, in prison for life] states:

“The ties of Ms. Abedine’s father, mother, and brother to the Muslim Brotherhood are both specific and substantiated. Ms. Abedin’s father, the late Syed Z. Abedin, was an Indian-born Islamic academic who founded the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs in Saudi Arabia. That institute was backed by the Muslim World League. As the Hudson Institute’s Zeyno Baran relates, the MWL was started by the Saudi government in 1962 “with Brotherhood members in key leadership positions.” It has served as the principal vehicle for the propagation of Islamic supremacism by the Saudis and the Brotherhood. That ideology fuels the “Islamic extremism” that, only a year ago, had McCain so worried that he thought allowing the Brotherhood into the Egyptian-government mix “would be a mistake of historic proportions.” [source, Andrew C. McCarthy, Questions About Huma Abedin, p. 2, National Review]”

The case we are presenting, one which we have covered previously, is one of inference. As one stacks these data points, one atop the other, the case becomes more determinative.

The below graphic which we pulled from the Internet Archive, shows Huma Abedin was an officer of George Washington University’s Muslim Students’ Association, listed on the MSA’s Executive Board as Chair of the Social Committee.

David Horowitz’ Discover the Networks, confirms this: "From 1997 until sometime before early 1999, Abedin, while still interning at the White House, was an executive board member of George Washington University's (GWU) Muslim Students Association (MSA), heading the organization's “Social Committee.”

Wikipedia , certainly no friend of the right, states that the MSA was created by the Muslim Brotherhood and Pakistan’s Muslim extremist group, Jamaat-e-Islami.

“The first MSA National chapter was formed in 1963 at the campus of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) by international students. The initial leadership came from Arabic-speaking and Urdu-speaking members with guidance from students of the Egyptian-based Muslim Brotherhood and Pakistan-based Jamaati Islami movements.” [Wiki, The Muslim Students’ Association]

Mr. McCarthy's take on the MSA?

“The MSA is the foundation of the Brotherhood’s American infrastructure, the gateway through which young Muslims join the Brotherhood after being steeped in the supremacist writings of Brotherhood theorists Hassan al-Banna (who founded the Brotherhood in the 1920s) and Sayyid Qutb (the animating influence of such jihadist eminences as Zawahiri, Osama bin Laden, and the “Blind Sheikh,” Omar Abdel Rahman).”

With Hillary having escaped meaningful examination by Congress regarding her 5-year long string of policy failures, especially the precise role she played relating to Benghazi while still at the State Department, we trust that Trey Gowdy's Select Committee won't be as abstemious regarding Hillary's delicate sensibilities as have previous investigations in both the House and Senate.

As a necessary component in holding Mrs. Clinton accountable, the actions and guidance provided her by long time de-facto Chief of Staff Huma Abedin simply can't be avoided. This woman, to our knowledge has never really been vetted with any degree of vigor a very odd thing considering her extraordinarily close relationship with the woman who now is seeking the presidency and Ms. Abedin's many troubling associations.

This woman had access to highly classified national security information, absent it seems, the requisite FBI full background investigation which would provide guidance as to whether she met the standard to receive a top-secret security clearance - standard operating procedure for everyone else operating at this level of the United States' foreign policy apparatus. It's time for the public to know the answers to all of the hanging chad attached to this woman and her near 20 year relationship with Mrs. Clinton. Until then informed speculation is all we have to go on, but even with the little we know there are grounds for serious concerns regarding Ms. Abedin's appropriateness to have served in this position and her boss' apparent lack of judgment in relying on a person with so many relevent but unanswered questions as her most trusted personal advisor.
