Coerced Shari'a Compliance And Alice In Arabia

March 31, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – - In early March the ABC Family Channel which is owned by Disney Studios, announced a pilot for a TV series to be titled: Alice in Arabia. The project would revolve around the circumstances befalling a young girl, half Saudi, being raised in the United States in privileged circumstances. Her parents are involved in a tragic accident which claims the life of her mother and leaves her father in a coma. Subsequently she meets two Saudi relatives who convince her to come back to Saudi Arabia with them for a while and offer their private jet. When she agrees, her aunt and grandfather convince Alice to give them her passport. As soon as they arrive at her grandfather's compound in Saudi Arabia, she is told that she can never leave. Alice is a prisoner and must rely on her wits and summon her strength to devise an escape plan.

While this has become an all too common occurrence in real life, Alice in Arabia was different in some of its details. Her father is a Saudi, and she considers herself to be a “good Muslim girl.” Her mixed heritage was never a source of problems for her – she treats it in a light vein. It’s unlikely, given the various rewrites that are part of bringing a pilot to broadcast readiness, and knowing the political correctness of the media, that Saudi society would be portrayed too harshly. Her grandfather's compound is shown to be luxurious. It is always possible to introduce positive characters that mitigate the severity and intolerance of Saudi society, short of reducing the series to fantasy fiction.

That was not going to be the case however because as soon as the announcement of the pilot was made and before a script with details became available, the self-appointed talking heads for the Muslim grievance industry and their sycophants began a campaign of intimidation against the network and its parent body.

The HAMAS linked Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) of course led the pack. CAIR has since its inception served as the tip of the spear when it comes to enforcing one of the core principles of the Shari’a that, neither Islam nor its prophet Mohammed should ever be insulted or criticized.

In this effort, CAIR was joined by the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and the American-Arab Anti-Defamation Committee (ADC). Though more PR savvy than CAIR, MPAC represents the same Islamist agenda. For example, Dr. Maher Hathout, who considers the Muslim Brotherhood’s founder Hassan Al Banna, a reformer, is the organization’s senior advisor.

Regarding the “moderation” of the ADC, consider the report that the, “59-year old Muhammad Salah, who spent nearly five years in an Israeli prison for funding the terrorist outfit, was taken off the list by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control. The terrorist designation prohibited Salah from obtaining employment or allegedly to make simple purchases without seeking permission from proper authorities. JTA explains the details: Two months ago, backed by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee and the American Friends Service Committee, he filed a lawsuit for his removal…” [source, Tiffany Gabbay, Chicago Man Convicted in Israel of Aiding Hamas Removed From U.S. Terrorist Watch-List , the Blaze].

In attacking the “Alice in Arabia” project CAIR at first demanded consultation with members of the pilot's executive body, alleging that the pilot and any resulting series might engage in stereotyping that can lead to bullying of Muslim students. And, of course, there were the usual references to anti-Arab racist stereotypes and Islamophobia. Much of the battle was fought in the social media.

Within a few days ABC ran up the white flag, bowing to the Muslim thugs stating, “The current conversation surrounding our pilot was not what we had envisioned and is certainly not conducive to the creative process, so we've decided not to move forward with this project.” [source, Rebecca Nicholson, ABC cancels controversial pilot Alice of Arabia following backlash, UK Guardian]

What is significant is not that ABC capitulated – they simply showed themselves to be one in a long line of dhimmis - but that CAIR, MPAC, and the ADC were able to roll such a large and successful entity in such a short span of time, proving that despite their troubling associations and policies, these organizations nonetheless continue to wield considerable power.

Though MPAC claims that its goal is to seek balanced views and accurate presentations portrayals of Muslims and Muslim issues in the film industry, its real agenda is one of censoring uncomfortable truths regarding Islam.

Towards that end it maintains an elaborate presence in Hollywood to do just that:

"MPAC's Hollywood Bureau serves as a bridge between the Muslim community and the entertainment industry. The Bureau is responsible for advancing Muslim American perspectives in the entertainment industry by serving as an information clearinghouse in Islam for the Hollywood community. The Bureau also works with the Muslim American community to nurture creative talent and connect aspiring Muslim filmmakers, writers and actors with Hollywood professionals...MPAC experts provide information, background, and consultation that addresses cultural and religious sensitivities in such areas as civil rights, politics, foreign affairs, art, culture, history, law, family issues and more...The Bureau works with studios and production companies to serve as a consultant on film and television projects that depict Islam or have an impact on the Muslim community. The Bureau seeks to promote balanced and accurate portrayals of Muslim-related issues in such movies and shows, as well as educate the filmmakers and producers about religious, political and cultural issues in the Muslim world in order to give deeper context to their creative work." Free societies do not prosper in an atmosphere of censorship and intimidation which is exactly what these alphabet soup Islamist groups are fostering. There is a grander intent here; the killing of Alice in Arabia reflects a basic intolerance by the majority of self-appointed spokesmen for Muslim Americans. What they are really seeking and often attaining is a coerced adherence to an alien jurisprudential/political ideology [the Shari’a] which is incompatible with Western representative democracy.

In the United States, what has happened in the entertainment industry, the media and big education up to now is a de-facto type of self-censorship. But make no mistake, these same organizations are diligently toiling to enact legislation, as it exists in Europe, which would make “insulting” or “disrespecting” Islam a statutory offense, punishable by jail time and/or in the levying of civil fines.

If that is allowed to happen in America, the Islamists will have won their religious war against liberty and freedom without a shot being fired.
