Clock Running Out On Obama’s Opportunity To Mangle ISIS/Al-Qaeda

June 18, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – – As ISIS rolls through Iraq unmolested it’s impossible not to question the President’s commitment to keeping the United States safe.

Despite claims by the legacy media to the contrary, ISIS is al-Qaeda is Boko Haram etc. The ideologies are the same, jihad, sacralized by the Qur’an, in furtherance of establishing a caliphate. The methods are the same, maximum violence to cow populations into accepting Islam over a very uncomfortable death. The only difference is quantitative, ISIS at this point is a dominant jihadist armed force conducting operations across a wide swath of territory, whereas, for example Boko Haram has primarily confined its mayhem to the Northern states of Nigeria.

They're what were called in simpler times, the enemy.

Bottom line?

Decapitation and worse is pretty much the same regardless of location.

What’s truly amazing about the spectacle that’s been unfolding now for weeks is that ISIS is moving large numbers of insurgents in convoys of what are essentially passenger vehicles using public roads.

To a military commander these unprotected vehicles represent a target of opportunity which could be quickly destroyed by air power with relatively minimal risk.

However as Obama continues to dither, the opportunity to strike a severe blow to ISIS/al-Qaeda wanes as shoulder fired surface to air missiles, Stingers and Russian SA-7s become more available, posing a much higher risk to pilots who might be engaging the jihadists.

Though there are counter measures which can be taken [a blizzard of flares] against the missiles since they are heat seekers those defenses could be overrun by the sheer number of missiles which might be brought to bear.

Complicating the matter, the aircraft which would be most effective against the ISIS convoys such as the AC130 and the A 10 Warthog fly low at relatively slow speeds - 250-350 - knots/hr making the enemy’s job less difficult.

What follows are examples of the effectiveness of some of the weapons which the President has at his disposal were he to turn serious about faithfully executing his oath of office.

With such options, the President’s inability to strike now is inexplicable assuming that he really wants to take out some of the worst actors in the Middle East while sending a very strong message to places such as Iran.

But while Iraq burns and the slaughter continues Obama’s official schedule these days centers on fundraising events when one might imagine that the nation might be better served if he was minding the office, which appears to be smoking

For example, this was the President’s evening schedule yesterday which concentrates on fundraising and strategizing [source, WH Schedule,]

Obama’s inattention to statecraft in the face of a genuine foreign policy crisis prompted the second senior member of the G.W. Bush administration, Vice President Cheney to offer comments in a WSJ Op Ed

"...The fall of the Iraqi cities of Fallujah, Tikrit, Mosul and Tel Afar, and the establishment of terrorist safe havens across a large swath of the Arab world, present a strategic threat to the security of the United States. Mr. Obama's actions—before and after ISIS's recent advances in Iraq—have the effect of increasing that threat. On a trip to the Middle East this spring, we heard a constant refrain in capitals from the Persian Gulf to Israel, "Can you please explain what your president is doing?" "Why is he walking away?" "Why is he so blithely sacrificing the hard fought gains you secured in Iraq?" "Why is he abandoning your friends?" "Why is he doing deals with your enemies?"

In one Arab capital, a senior official pulled out a map of Syria and Iraq. Drawing an arc with his finger from Raqqa province in northern Syria to Anbar province in western Iraq, he said, "They will control this territory. Al Qaeda is building safe havens and training camps here. Don't the Americans care?" [source, Dick and Liz Cheney, The Collapsing Obama Doctrine, Wall Street Journal]

The President continues to try and deflect the public’s attention away from these matters by playing media games such as today’s arrest of a suspect in the Benghazi attack, Ahmed Abu Khatallah. The way the Department of State played this event it was as if Obama had personally stalking this individual for years which is odd considering that Khatallah has on numerous occasions been interviewed by major news organizations including Fox who had no trouble at all finding him.

At this point in his presidency, Obama really doesn’t care how his actions are perceived. He has an agenda from which he will not be deflected, despite the public’s rising perception that he holds them in contempt.
