January 30, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – PipeLineNews.org – In a January 21 piece, Dr. Zuhdi Jasser: Obama’s Second Term Constitutes “50 Ways To Surrender To Political Islam,” we related the specifics of an appearance that Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, a devout Muslim and the president of the, American Islamic Forum for Democracy, made on Fox News.
During that segment, Jasser dealt with the Obama’s administration’s record of appeasement regarding Islamic radicalism, a policy which he characterized as, “50 ways to surrender to political Islam.”
Jasser is not your run-of-the-mill critic, his CV is impressive:
“…Dr. Jasser earned his medical degree on a U.S. Navy scholarship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1992. He served 11 years as a medical officer in the U. S. Navy. His tours of duty included Medical Department Head aboard the U.S.S. El Paso which deployed to Somalia during Operation Restore Hope; Chief Resident at Bethesda Naval Hospital; and Staff Internist for the Office of the Attending Physician to the U. S. Congress. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal….”
But for some, a Muslim who has demonstrated both his patriotism and a strong secular devotion to his religion isn’t enough to avoid attacks by terror friendly groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations.
Regarding CAIR, the below statement was taken from a Federal District Court filing:
"The government has produced ample evidence to establish the associations of CAIR, ISNA, NAIT, with NAIT, the Islamic Association for Palestine, and with Hamas," U.S. District Court Judge Jorge Solis said in the July 1, 2009, ruling.." [source, The Investigative Project, Federal Dist. Court filing].
CAIR’s assault on Jasser was led by its executive director Nihad Awad, a particularly reprehensible member of the organization.
According to a post in the authoritative Discover the Networks:
“…In a 1994 interview with newsman Mike Wallace, Awad was asked if he supported the “military undertakings of Hamas,” to which he replied: “The United Nations Charter grants people who are under occupation [the right] to defend themselves against illegal occupation.” That same year, Awad declared at a Barry University meeting, "I am a supporter of the Hamas movement.”… In an August 2006 interview on C-SPAN's Washington Journal, Awad suggested that suicide bombings are understandable attempts to address political injustices…”
Despite Awad’s background he – representing CAIR – has tried to silence Jasser, petitioning the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), of which Jasser is a member, charging him with working to suppress the rights of Muslim members of the United States military. The clear intent of this effort is to have Dr. Jasser removed from the Commission.
The charge itself is ludicrous, Jasser having proudly served in the military for 11 years. That the attack comes from Awad and CAIR only adds irony to the indefensible nature of this effort.
Therefore today we call on the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom to publicly rebuke the groundless allegations made by Awad/CAIR, furthermore we ask that the Department of Justice and the U.S. Civil Rights Commission to investigate CAIR’s tactics in this matter.
