September 9, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - According to a report just released by the Fars News Agency (the mouthpiece of the Revolutionary Guards of Iran), Alzaman newspaper (an Arabic paper out of London) has just revealed that Bashar Assad recently made a secret trip to Iran and consulted with Ayatollah Khamenei, the Iranian supreme leader and the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Fars News Agency goes on to defend Assad and what's happening in Syria by referring to the uprising of the Syrian people as an act inspired by the Zionist regime in Israel and enemies of the Center of Resistance (referring to Iran, Hezbollah and Syria).
Through its sources inside Iran, Alzaman reports that during the meeting between Assad and the Iranian officials, Assad provided the latest assessment on the situation in Syria and was advised by the Iranian supreme leader to show flexibility toward the Arab leaders' offers in resolving the issues so that the current situation could be defused.
In the meantime, the situation in Syria continues to worsen. The use of extreme force by the Assad government has failed to subdue the resistance. The people of Syria are now openly calling for the downfall of Assad.
The Iranian supreme leader had earlier ordered the Guards, Hezbollah and other factions to help the Syrian regime with the confrontation of its people. The EU has sanctioned the Quds forces, the special unit of the Revolutionary Guards in charge of extraterritorial activities, for their involvement in the killing of the Syrian protesters.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March and since then over two thousand people have been killed by Assad's security forces.
