Start Treaty Passage - Media Bias, The New Standard

December 23, 2010 - San Francisco, CA - - If one were to accept the judgment of AP's sycophants, president Obama - the comeback kid in their lunatic asylum - has just saved planet earth from certain nuclear Armageddon, "The Senate on Wednesday ratified an arms control treaty with Russia that reins in the nuclear weapons that could plunge the world into doomsday, giving President Barack Obama a major foreign policy win in Congress' waning hours..." [source, Donna Cassata, Desmond Butler, Senate ratifies nuke pact, delivering win to Obama, Contra Costa Times,]

Unfortunately, once you get past the cheerleading, the fact remains that this treaty profoundly harms U.S. national security in a number of ways.

The first and most immediate is that it rewards the Russians despite their ongoing campaign of belligerence against American interests. A primary example of this is Russia's continued high level nuclear assistance to the Iranian theocracy and in our hemisphere - where the Monroe doctrine has fallen into disfavor - it has actively aided thugs such as Hugo Chavez, inking contracts [and providing billions of dollars in "loans"] for advanced missile defenses, tanks and other armaments wholly outside the real defense needs of a non-aggressive South American country.

As to the nuts and bolts of the agreement the Center for Security Policy's Frank Gaffney nails the treaty's defects. [see, Gaffney, Just Say No To Start, also see,, The Center for Security Policy]

1. He points out that because the treaty does not factor in Russia's huge advantage in tactical nuclear weapons. We are talking thousands of weapons here and also not factoring in the reality that our tactical nukes are ancient, with many of them 30 years old.

2. It reduces our nuclear stockpile at precisely the time when multiple new nuclear threats have appeared on the horizon; witness, Iran, N. Korea, Syria and Venezuela, all of which are engaged at one level or another in obtaining nukes.

3. It will allow the Russians to have veto power over U.S. missile defense plans. As a side note, the way in which the Russians so easily bullied Obama to abandon a limited Eastern European missile defense does nothing but embellish his administration's reputation for studied ignorance on nearly every significant foreign policy matter. It also demonstrates TeamObama's lack of resolve, an unwillingness to confront aggressive foreign powers.

4. Under this treaty, Russian compliance will be nearly impossible to verify. Hence they will most assuredly cheat, as they have always done, a trait formalized during the terror of the Soviet regime.

Sorry AP, the approval of this treaty, though providing a meaningless feather in the president's cap, does real harm to national security. The fact that a major news organization [even one as tainted as the Associated Press] would use the occasion in an attempt to resurrect their handpicked man-child, is another simple reminder that in today's MSM, bias has become the new standard.
