Bomb Rocks San Diego Federal Court Building

May 4, 2008 - San Francisco, CA - - The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force [JTTF] has responded to an explosion at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Courthouse located at 940 Front Street, San Diego, California.

The blast described as "powerful" by FBI spokesmen, took place at approximately 1:40 am Sunday morning. The court house is near San Diego's busy nightclub district.

The explosive device, possibly a pipe bomb or a series of pipe bombs, damaged the court house entrance and lobby area. No one is believed to have been injured as a result of the bombing, though two members of the Federal Protective Services were in the building at the time of the attack.

JTTF is working the case in conjunction with the San Diego Fire Department Metro Arson Strike Team, the San Diego Police Department, the ATF, and Federal Protective Services.

It is hoped that surveillance cameras may provide additional evidence in the case, though they were not oriented towards the front of the building.

As we go to press no arrests have been made and no individual or group has come forward to claim responsibility.
