American Legion Takes Tough Stand Against Illegal Immigration
By Tom Fredriksen, special to PipeLineNews.org
March 5, 2008 – Seattle, WA – PipeLineNews.org – Lack of progress in defending the United States’ borders has caused the illegal immigration issue to spill over into what had been service based only organizations.
Towards that end, the American Legion, with over two and a half million members, is placing its weight behind resolving the matter, calling illegal immigration, “the most important issue facing this country today."
The Old Glory Radio Network today spoke with Joe March, the National Director of Public Relations for the American Legion, concerning the organization’s recent campaign to draw attention to the national security implications of open borders. During the interview, Mr. March also addressed other aspects of the issue including crime, cost to the taxpayer, illegal immgration’s child victims and impact on the war on terror.
This new aggressive stand by the American Legion comes as a result of recommendations made by the Americanism Commission, a member based volunteer group within the Legion.
The Legion’s newfound activism on the matter has not come without controversy. March stated that while the organization has had mainly positive feedback from its members, “outside organizations" with a pro-immigration stance have criticized the move.
