Marxist Effort To Indoctrinate Bay Area Youth Going Unchallenged

Public schools involved in promotion of revolutionary agenda

February 13, 2008 - Berkeley, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Having spent about 4 hours yesterday on assignment in Berkeley, CA covering the confrontation between pro-troop activists and the usual suspects it was impossible to avoid noting the high percentage of young people apparently in the tow of the left.

Berkeley being what it has always been [since the mid-1960s and Mario Savio] one would expect its youth to be involved in the city's leftward tilting politics. Mere involvement however was not what one saw during the day-long demonstrations; what was observed however is that the young were apparently serving a key role - an army of foot soldiers for Marxist revolutionary groups - which have created a semi-underground network which provides support and direction to these kids.

It was from within this mini-army - all similarly adorned in black "The World Can't Wait" tee-shirts and orange bandanas worn in a manner similar to the Palestinian jihadists' al-Aqsa Martyr's Brigade kaffiyehs - that two of the day's three arrests took place. This is also the group which aggressively moved on the Berkeley Police Department, demanding the immediate release of the detainees until their effort was [gently] broken up by the Tac-Squad.

In talking to some of these kids we became aware of a group called the Bay Area Revolution Club which is a student outreach program coordinated through the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA.

From the postings on the WCW website it's clear that creating, then using alienated young people as cannon fodder is part of the group's MO. In a single article [see, http://www.worldcantwait.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=36&Itemid=87] the terms "youth" and/or "young" were used a dozen or so times, beginning with, "San Francisco was a power house of youthful energy unleashed through the vehicle provided by World Can't Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime!" and progressing to, "a barrage of fiery, impassioned speech that resonated with the crowd and the frustrated youth " and "Then, about 30 or 40 youth activists staged a die-in at the corner of Market and Hyde."

In early January Larry Everest appeared on San Francisco's inappropriately named Leadership High School campus and was allowed to conduct an indoctrination session involving approximately 60 students. Everest is a long-time communist activist. He has worked for twenty years as a reporter for the Revolutionary Worker newspaper and authored a number of books with a Marxist point of view, [see, http://www.larryeverest.com/bio.htm].

The Bay Area Revolution Club's press releases and public communication appears on Revcom.us, which is as the site states," the official website for Revolution newspaper, voice of the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA," [see, http://www.revcom.us/a/117/leadership-high-en.html].

As a result of Everest's appearance student interest in the Revolution Club soared with at one point nearly 25% of Leadership High's students coming to school wearing the orange paraphernalia now associated with this movement.

The group behind the Revolution Club is not surprisingly an offshoot of the Revolutionary Communist Party, "Calling itself The World Can't Wait, the group was initiated in part by supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party," [source, San Francisco Chronicle, http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/11/02/BAGKAFHM8U1.DTL].

Seeking to further explore this we called Leadership High's principal Elizabeth Rood on February 13. During that call Ms. Rood was evasive at best, stating that Mr. Everest was not invited on campus, but finally admitting that yes, he had made an appearance when directly questioned about the event. She didn't appear overly concerned that many of her students were heavily involved with a revolutionary group and refused to field any more questions.

Other Bay Area schools have been similarly involved according to claims by the group's organizers, though we have not yet been able to confirm that.

Of particular note, during our conversations with these young activists they stated they're not only from local high schools but that a significant number of them are from the middle schools, a sobering realization when set against the similar and known methodology employed by Islamists in creating youthful suicide bombers in the Middle East.

This is a phenomenon worth keeping an eye on, as the Bay Area's love affair with the radical left continues.
