Help With California Parent's Right To Know Initiative!

The Parent's Right to Know ballot initiative needs 900,000 signatures to qualify for the November, 2006 ballot. Without the type of legislation this initiative represents, groups like Planned Parenthood will continue to conspire behind our backs against the welfare of our children.

The Parents' Right to Know and Child Protection ballot initiative will require that a physician notify in writing a parent or guardian at least 48 hours before performing an abortion on a minor

Please volunteer to collect signatures at your church, petitions, instructions, and flyers will be provided.

Networks Spin Tony Snow Appointment

April 27, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - America's largest organization detailing liberal bias in the media, the Media Research Center reveals that ABC and NBC on Wednesday night delighted in showcasing how incoming White House Press Secretary Tony Snow last year wrote that President Bush had become "an embarrassment."

But in portraying the quote as a declarative accusation, neither ABC's Elizabeth Vargas or NBC's David Gregory put the remark into the context of how Snow was observing that Virginia Republicans not wishing to appear with Bush during the 2005 campaign suggested "Bush has become something of an embarrassment."

Neither bothered to let their viewers in on how they were just funneling quotes from a short list collected by the left-wing Center for American Progress. Vargas teased at the top of World News Tonight, "President Bush chooses a new spokesman: A conservative commentator who once called the President 'an embarrassment.'" NBC's David Gregory at least hinted at some context, though he still implied it was an accusation, as he related how Snow "has criticized his new boss, writing last year that, quote, 'George Bush has become something of an embarrassment.'"

All three broadcast morning shows this morning noted President Bush's choice of Tony Snow as new White House Press Secretary, but only ABC's Good Morning America saw the need to parrot from the thin list of anti- Bush quotes from Snow's columns being passed around by the liberal Center for American Progress (although reporter Jessica Yellin presented the quotes as if they were the result of her own research, hiding the fact they came from Democratic partisans).

Contra Costa Times And San Jose Mercury Reportedly Sold To Denver Based, MediaNews Group

BREAKING...April 26, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - San Francisco AM News station KCBS is reporting that MediaNews Group Inc., a Denver based company owned by Dean Singleton, has purchased the Contra Costa Times and the San Jose Mercury for an undisclosed amount of money.

The Times and Mercury were two of the newspapers that were formerly owned by Knight Ridder and recently purchased by the McClatchy Company which then announced its intention to sell off the two poorly performing products.

Both McClatchy and MediaNews Group have so far refused to comment on the possible acquisition but KCBS' reporter Mike Colgan has stated that the formal announcement will be made sometime later today.

If the deal does transpire it will be a blow to the local newspaper union, the San Jose Newspaper Guild which has been working with Yucaipa - an LA venture capital firm with ties to Democrat fat cats including heavy hitter Bill Clinton - to acquire the newspapers.

Note to CC Times' Editors Chris Lopez and Dan "Jack Daniels" Hatfield...gentlemen pack your bags...

For more on the Guild-Yucaipa aspect of this story take the following link to the previously published piece...

Knight Ridder-McClatchy Newspaper Deal Reveals Ties To Clinton-Gore Financier Yucaipa

March 13, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - The long anticipated sale of troubled newspaper publisher Knight Ridder was announced Sunday, with California based McClatchy Co agreeing to a deal valued at $6.5 billion.

McClatchy immediately announced it will sell off 12 of KR's low-growth potential products which include the San Jose Mercury and the [much maligned here] Contra Costa Times.

The surprise McClatchy offer breaks down to $67.25 a share, of which the San Jose Mercury reports, "$40 of that in cash and the rest in McClatchy shares. The Sacramento-based company is also assuming $2 billion in Knight Ridder debt."

It is rumored that some of the McClatchy spin-offs [which may or may not include the CC Times] - the San Jose Mercury, Philadelphia Inquirer, St. Paul Pioneer Press, Akron Beacon Journal; Grand Forks Herald; Monterey Herald; and Duluth News Tribune are being negotiated for by the Newspaper Guild which is seeking to purchase them on an ESOP [employee financed ownership plan].

Possibly The Dumbest Comment Nancy Pelosi Has Ever Made

Hint - If you are looking for political innanity, never stray far from a Dem press relesase...

"If you want to reduce our dependence on foreign oil and therefore improve our national security situation, you can't do it if you're a republican because you are too wedded to the oil companies."

Sure Nancy, why rely on the people who actually deliver your gasoline to take measures to increase its supply? This brilliance, from the party whose core position is one of support for "conservation" through increased gasoline prices.

Rumsfeld - Victory In Iraq Would Represent, "An Enormous Success For This Region"

By John D. Banusiewicz, American Forces Press Service

April 26, 2006 - Baghdad, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org - While success in Iraq's march to freedom would mean good things for most of its neighbors, Iran could only view that as a failure, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said here today.

Rumsfeld and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are here to meet with U.S. and Iraqi officials.

"A successful Iraq that is at peace with its neighbors and that has a government that's representative of the various elements within the country would represent an enormous success for this region," Rumsfeld said. "It would add to prosperity for the region. It would be something that all of the neighbors would benefit from, except Iran.

"Iran's view of the world is quite different," he continued, "and (a successful democracy in Iraq) would represent a failure from the standpoint of Iran."

Coalition Forces Kill Band Of Terror Financiers In Afghanistan

April 26, 2006 - Bagram, Afghanistan - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - Coalition forces interdicted a small band of terrorists in the Helmand Province on Monday evening. Coalition aircraft fired two AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and dropped one bomb on the terrorists while they were meeting at a suspected Taliban camp in the Lashkar Gah District.

Three enemy fighters were killed and one fled during the air strike.

There was no damage to civilians or property observed during the operation.

The people killed were responsible for launching numerous attacks against Government of Afghanistan and Coalition forces including financing terrorist activities.

"Afghan and Coalition forces will continue to pursue those who stand in the way of the government of Afghanistan's objectives," said Army Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, Combined Joint Task Force - 76 spokesman. "Afghans are tired of the death and violence Taliban fighters and other enemies of Afghanistan have inflicted upon them," he said.

Coalition Forces Kill 12 Terrorists In Iraq Safe House

April 26, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via American Foreces Press - Coalition forces killed 12 terrorists during a raid on a safe house in Yusifiyah, Iraq, yesterday, U.S. officials said.

The safe house was associated with foreign terrorists. Multiple intelligence sources led the troops to the specific structure, about 8 kilometers from the location where a U.S. Apache helicopter crashed April 1.

Upon arrival, the troops took direct fire and immediately engaged with small-arms fire as well as machine-gun fire from helicopters. The first terrorist who ran out of the safe house upon the troops' arrival was attempting to launch the shoulder-fired rocket and was immediately engaged and killed. The troops initially killed five terrorists outside the safe house and then called for an air strike to neutralize the persistent direct fire coming from the safe house.

After the precision air strike, ground troops conducted a tactical search of the destroyed safe house and located the bodies of seven more terrorists and a woman. Every male who was found in the rubble was wearing an AK-47 vest with two loaded magazines and two grenades. The troops also discovered suicide notes on one terrorist, body bombs, weapons to include a shoulder-fired rocket, and ammunition.

Bush Hails New Iraqi Government, "A free Iraq will be a part of laying the peace for generations"

By Steven Donald Smith, American Forces Press Service

April 26, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - "After months of patient negotiations, Iraqi leaders reached an agreement on a unity government," President Bush said in a speech on energy policy. "This new leadership reflects the diversity of Iraq, and it reflects the will of the Iraqi people who defied the terrorists and killers and went to the polls last December."

The Iraqi parliament April 22 elected seven high-ranking officials, including President Jalal Talabani, who then named Jawad al Maliki as prime minister-designate. The new government has 30 days to appoint an Iraqi cabinet that represents all of the country's citizens.

Despite disagreements, officials agree that the formation of the unity government is a crucial moment in the history of a new Iraq, Bush said.

He said he spoke to the Iraqi president, parliament speaker and the prime minister-designate April 23. "I congratulated them on their courage and encouraged them to stand strong for the Iraqi people," he said. "I reminded them the people had voted -- the people had expressed their desire for democracy and unity -- and now there's a chance for these leaders to stand up and lead."

Completing The Circle - Hogan & Hartson, The Unifying Link In The Clinton's War Against Bush?

April 25, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In short order after having been fired from the CIA for leaking national security secrets to Washington Post reporter Dana Priest, Mary McCarthy has retained DC hotshot attorney Ty Cobb.

Cobb is a partner in the powerhouse law firm of Hogan & Hartson, Clinton National Security Advisor Sandy Berger's longtime employer.

Hogan & Hartson provides the link between such disparate but key Clintonista "persons of interest" as Sandy Berger, Mary McCarthy, John Huang, Cheryl D. Mills [Deputy Counsel to Clinton, instrumental role in defense of the president during his impeachment], David Watkins - defended in the Travelgate scandal by Ty Cobb [Watkins was a longtime "friend of Bill" and the party who fired the White House Travel Office staff on Hillary Clinton?s orders, thus launching "Travelgate"] and others.

Cobb wasted little time, immediately going on the offensive in defense of his client McCarthy claiming as the Washington Post reported, that she "did not have access to the information she is accused of leaking," and that "She categorically denies leaking classified information," as Cobb stated to the New York Times.

Echoing Cobb, Rand Beers [former NSC deputy, Clinton Assistant Secty of State and brought back to the NSC by president Bush in 2002. He abruptly resigned from Bush administration in 2003, 5 days before the commencement of Operation Iraqi freedom, claiming he wanted to retire from government then two months later accepting a position with the John Kerry campaign as foreign policy advisor] after admitting having talked to McCarthy, claimed, "She was not the source for that story."

Beers currently lectures along with Richard Clark on national security issues at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

Columnist Spanks State Department Embarassment Karen Hughes

April 25, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Finding common cause with the the Washpost is something we seldom experience but columnist Suzanne Fields' piece, linked to above - A Nanny's Guide To Nice - appropriately ridicules Karen Hughes the State Department's brain dead massager of wounded Muslim sensitivities, who is reportedly working on a "World Citizen's Guide" with the hope of improving America's public image overseas...

"Nobody has any manners any more, and the government wants to do something about it. Soon we can take our cues from the Bard or a bureaucrat. Polonius was the fatherly old bore in "Hamlet," given to speechifying to his son about morals and manners. Karen Hughes, the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy, thinks American tourists should be similarly instructed on how to behave abroad.

[snip]

The undersecretary was in Texas television news before she joined George W. Bush in Washington, a refugee from the happy talk of the anchor desk. In the language of the nanny instructing naughty children, this guide to good manners instructs us to learn to smile genuinely because the smile, which is only a frown turned upside down, is a universal equalizer. You can let a smile be your umbrella."

Nancy Pelosi And Democrats Have Consistently Opposed Funding U.S. Intelligence

April 25, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - As the House leadership points out, on the House floor this week is the FY 2007 Intelligence Authorization Act (H.R. 5020), part of House Republicans' ongoing effort to secure America's communities by strengthening our intelligence capabilities. The measure directs resources to improve our human intelligence, intelligence analysis, and infrastructure, and provides more resources aimed at bolstering counterintelligence capabilities.

These actions are necessary after years of neglect by the Clitnon administration in the 1990s.

Following the end of the Cold War, a series of drastic, across-the-board cuts by the Clinton Administration in human intelligence funding slashed the number of American intelligence operatives by nearly one-third. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with President Clinton in 1993 was current Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who voted to cut intelligence authorization by $500 million.

Pelosi's record is consistent in opposition to an increased U.S. intelligence capacity:

1996
1997
1998
1999

In fact, Pelosi has a clear record of voting against the intelligence community stretching back to 1989 when she was one of only 31 representatives to vote against authorizing appropriations for intelligence and intelligence-related activities. In recent years she couldn't even bring herself to vote for a resolution expressing support for those who work for our intelligence agencies.

Rising Gas Prices? - Five Questions For Nancy Pelosi

April 25, 2006 - Berkeley, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The House leadership has posed 5 questions to minority leader Nancy Pelosi [D-CA] regarding her party's role in today's high gasoline prices:

Nancy Pelosi and her Capitol Hill Democrats have fashioned an abysmal record on energy issues that are important to the American public, yet now have the temerity to complain about the strain of rising gas prices they are directly responsible for.

It's time for Nancy Pelosi and her band of Capitol Hill Democrats to answer questions about their blatant obstruction and chronic negligence on energy issues:

1. In the face of rising gas prices for working families, why have you and your Capitol Hill Democrats consistently opposed measures designed to increase supply of American energy?

2. With world energy prices rising because of increased demand, why did 124 of your House Democrats vote against the energy bill in 2005 to encourage the expansion of clean nuclear energy supplies?

3. In the face of rising gas prices for Americans, why did 196 of your House Democrats vote against a 2005 energy bill that would have streamlined the process of refinery expansion and construction that is so critical to the future of America's energy infrastructure?

Bin Laden Orders Mujahadeen To Sudan, MoveOn.org Organizes A March

April 24, 2006 - Berkeley, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Calling the juxtaposing of these two events as serendipitous probably constitutes a record of sorts in the art of understatement, but immediately on the heels of Binny's most recent harangue demanding that his mujahadeen warriors descend upon Sudan to end what he characterizes as a genocide against Muslims - "I urge the mujahidin...in Sudan and the surrounding areas, including the Arabian Peninsula...to prepare all that which is necessary to fight a long-term war against the Crusader thieves [Britain and America] in western Sudan..." - we have George Soros' MoveOn.org organizing a "virtual march" against Sudanese genocide, but focusing their outrage on conditions in Darfur and avoiding the larger question of regional genocide.

The signup page for the MoveOn effort links to the Save Darfur website which presents the nature of the genocide in Sudan as being - "The war, which risks inflicting irreparable damage on a delicate ethnic balance of seven million people who are uniformly Muslim."

Now if facts be known if we look outside the fisheye of Darfur of course what is really happening in Sudan is a case of Muslim Arabs in the North of Sudan carrying out a near 20 campaign genocide against Christians in the South, but we also imagine that it would be impossible to identify the real perpetrators of this hideous business as being Muslim and still keep on the good side of protest endorsers CAIR [the terrorist friendly Council on Islamic American Relations] ICNA [Islamic Circle of North America, Karen Hughes favorite Islamist group] along with the usual gaggle of lefties and anti-Zionist Jewish groups [Hebrews with a death wish].

What Bin Laden Claims In His Latest Tape

April 24, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The nature of Bin-Laden's assertions are all-encompassing. He claims that this conflict is religious and cultural in nature, that the entire non-Muslim world has engaged in a conspiracy against Islam, that all who war against Islam are either Crusaders or Zionists and that the ultimate goal of this war is to enslave Muslim countries.

We have broken this down into six broad categories.

1. This conflict is a religious war. Western governments and their people are responsible for the ?war against Islam? because while the government wages it, the people approved of it, re-electing their leaders and sending their sons into the military:

"While the war continues, the people renew the rule of their rulers and of the politicians. They send their sons to the army fighting us and continue the monetary and material support."

2. The United States and Britain have conspired with Israel against Hamas. Hamas is equated with Islam therefore this is an attack on Islam:

"An example of the blatant attacks on our beliefs is what your ally, Israel, did in terms of storming and demolishing the Jericho Prison with the collusion of America and Britain...Their opposition to the Hamas victory proves that this is a crusade against Islam."

3. Britain and the United States have conspired against Sudan. Since Sudan is a Muslim land it must be defended even though the current government in Khartoum is not fundamentalist enough for bin-Laden's liking:

"Britain, separated Sudan from Egypt...It formed an army there...America took over this army...I urge the mujahidin...in Sudan and the surrounding areas, including the Arabian Peninsula...to prepare all that which is necessary to fight a long-term war against the Crusader thieves in western Sudan."

CIA Leaker - Mary McCarthy - Busted For Disclosing National Security Secrets To Attack Journalist

April 22, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - In a move called "unusual" by the mainstream press only because they have grown accustomed to this administration rolling over like a dead whale when confronted by leakers, the CIA has fired Mary McCarthy - of the spy bureau's Inspector General's Office - for the disclosure of classified information.

The announcement was personally authored by CIA Director Porter Goss, AP reports.

Not only has McCarthy been fired, she is reportedly the target of a Justice Department investigation that may result in the filing of criminal charges associated with the revelation of top-secret national security information.

McCarthy is now believed to be at least one of the sources for the Washpost's series of articles on American operated clandestine detentions centers in Europe authored by Dana Priest, a this week recipient of the Pulitzer Prize for leftist attack journalism.

Of similar interest to the DOJ and the CIA are the source of leaks to James Risen and Eric Lichtblau whose New York Times articles revealed that the Bush administration had the temerity to surveil al-Qaeda electronic transmissions.

Mr. Risen and Lichtblau were also were rewarded this week - for valiant service to the cause - by the Pulitzer Committee.

Previous to her employment at the CIA's IG office Mary McCarthy was the NSC's Senior Director for Intelligence from 1998-2001. She served on the staff of vitriolic Bush critic Richard Clarke the NSC's National Counterterrorism Coordinator from 1997-2001.

Mrs. Lincoln Chafee Using Position In Rhode Island Free Clinic For Husband's Political Gain?

...BREAKING...April 21, 2006 - Providence, RI - PipeLineNews.org - As detailed in our earlier filing Chafee Campaign Caught Trying To Stuff Ballot Box, the conclusion of Mrs. Lincoln Chafee's email which solicits Democrats to change their party registration and then vote for Senator Chafee in the Republican primary, contains the following contact information:

RIFC
655 Broad Street
Providence, RI 02907
401.490.8088
www.rifreeclinic.org

The organization is the Rhode Island Free Clinic, a provider of medical services [including abortion counseling] to those without medical insurance.

A call to the listed telephone number routes you into Stephanie Chafee's voice mail with this message:

"Hi you have reached the office of Stephanie Chafee and I will be away until April [unintelligible], happy Easter"

As an act of supposed philanthropy, Mrs. Chafee had a hand in creating the Rhode Island Free Clinic

"Rhode Island Free Clinic began eight years ago as an idea of co-founders Stephanie Danforth Chafee, RN, MBA and Bruce Becker, MD. Since its doors opened in 1999, the Free Clinic has been helping to make a difference for uninsured adults in Rhode Island. In 2004, Free Clinic volunteers provided over 1,800 free visits to its uninsured patients. In the past year alone, patient visits increased by 42 percent, serving as a concrete reminder of the great (and growing) need for accessible healthcare." - RHODE ISLAND FREE CLINIC NAMED RI's 2005 OUTSTANDING PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATION

However it appears that she and the Chafee campaign are taking advantage of the time, effort and contributions made to the clinic, using it as a seemingly official contact point for the Senator's reelection bid.

We are awaiting word from Chafee campaign spokesperson Ian Lang for further clarification.

Chafee Campaign Caught Trying To Stuff Ballot Box

...BREAKING...April 21, 2006 - Providence, RI - PipeLineNews.org - What follows is the verbatim text of an email sent by Stephanie Chafee [Rhode Island Senator Lincoln Chafee's wife] to registered Democrats urging them to change their party affiliation from Democrat to either Independent or Republican so that they can then vote for Senator Chafee in the Republican primary on September 12th, thus skewing the results.

Included with the email were attachments that the Chafee campaign added, instructing voters on the intricacies of how to change their party identification.

We find this tactic reprehensible and nothing short of attempting to steal an election by stuffing the ballot box.

Chafee is trying to hijack the GOP primary because he realizes that his views are so out of step with the Republican base that he can't win without resorting to underhanded tactics and the liberal vote.

For a brief synopsis on Chafee's brief but troubling Senate record, please visit this link Lincoln Chafee, The Wrong Man For Rhode Island

[Editor's Note: When contacted by PipeLineNews.org, Senator Chafee's campaign spokesman Ian Lang had these comments:

PLN - "Some of the Rhode Island GOP leaders that we have talked to are pretty outraged by this move to bring non-Republicans into the Republican primary; do you have any comments about that?"

Mr. Lang - "This is an email she [Stephanie Chafee] sent to her friends and colleagues...the Senator has been committed to growing the Republican party throughout his career..."

PLN - "Is this an admission that Senator Chafee can't win within his own party?"

"The Senator has a long history of doing that [growing the Republican party]...we are reaching out to those who are supportive of Linc Chafee..."

When queried about the mentioning of the Rhode Island Free Clinic - a provider of abortion counseling - in the email, Mr. Lang stated that he was not aware of that. We forwarded the text of Mrs. Chafee's email to him for additional comments.]

Subject: Voter Choice

April 5, 2006

Dear Friend,

This is an important election for Rhode Island's future. My husband, Linc Chafee, is engaged in the fight of his political life. His commitment to honest, independent leadership has put him under attack from extremist on both sides of the ideological divide.

I believe that you agree with me that Linc's centrist views are good for Rhode Island. They allow him to work with colleagues in a bipartisan manner to ensure that our state receives its fair share of federal funding, to expand access to healthcare and education, and to safeguard our beautiful forests and coastlines for this and future generations.

Linc has stood up for Rhode Island time and again. In a contentious atmosphere, he has stood firm by refusing to engage in partisan politics. Now it's time for all of us who want more independent minded thinkers in Washington to show our support for Linc. If you are a registered Democrat, I am strongly encouraging you to disaffiliate and to become an unaffiliated voter.

If you support my husband, it is absolutely imperative that you vote for him in both the September 12th primary and in the general election on November 7th. But to be eligible to vote for him in the Republican primary you must be registered as either an unaffiliated or a Republican voter. I want to urge you to please check your affiliation and consider voting in the September primary. If you are a registered Democrat you must disaffiliate by June 14th in order to vote in Linc's September primary.

Changing your affiliation is easy. I have enclosed a copy of a voter registration card, which will allow you to disaffiliate. This form can also be found on the board of elections website at www.elections.ri.gov and is available at your local board of canvassers located at your Town or City Hall. Enclosed, please find a listing of five easy steps to guide you through the disaffiliation process. For more information on voter registration call the campaign at (401) 921-1920 and ask for Brent Lang or email him at blang@chafeeforsenate.com.

Thank you and I hope you will join me in supporting Linc in this upcoming election.

Stephanie Chafee

P.S. If you need further information, please let us know. If you are planning to be out of state during the primary, please remember to get an absentee ballot. Above all, exercise what our forefathers fought for - the right to vote

Iraqis Continue 'Dominant Contribution' to Operations, General Says

By Sgt. Sara Wood

April 21, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - Iraqi security forces continue to play an increasingly larger role in the fight against terrorism, with many units taking responsibility for their own areas and making connections with citizens, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad said today. In a marked improvement over last year's three battalions, the Iraqi army now has two divisions, 16 brigades and 58 battalions that have the lead in counterinsurgency operations in their areas, Army Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, Multinational Force Iraq spokesman, said at a news conference. Also, at least 25 percent of daily company-level and above operations are independent Iraqi security force operations, Lynch said.

"The Iraqi security force continues to make a dominant contribution for operations across Iraq," he said.

Independent operations by Iraqi security forces are successful not only because Iraqis are effective and familiar with the surroundings, but also because Iraqi citizens are willing to work with them and provide intelligence, Lynch said. Iraqi civilians have repeatedly given intelligence to Iraqi security forces that results in effective operations, he said.

"[Iraqi citizens] have indeed reached a point where they are tired of the insurgency, and they realize that they are indeed the target of attacks by the insurgency," he said.

Time To Replace Turkey as a Strategic Partner?

By Jonathan Eric Lewis, Middle East Quarterly

April 20, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The U.S.-Turkish partnership remained strong throughout the Cold War. Turkey was a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) member and a frontline state against the Soviet Union. Washington valued Ankara as a strategic partner. But, with the end of the Cold War, the pivotal status of Turkey receded. Successive U.S. presidents paid heed to the importance of the U.S.-Turkish relationship, but few cultivated it. Until the Turkish parliament shocked Washington by failing to authorize the use of Turkish facilities for Operation Iraqi Freedom on March 1, 2003, many in Washington took the Turkish partnership for granted. The loss of Ankara as a reliable ally has forced U.S. policymakers to readjust their regional strategy. Turkey may no longer be a pivotal state, but the Black Sea and Caspian littoral remains a pivotal region as a bulwark against radical Islam and for energy security. While Washington seeks to repair its once strong partnership with Ankara, increasingly, the security and stability of the region requires a more active and engaged U.S. approach not only to Turkey, but also to Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and Romania.

Shaken Confidence

The Turkish National Assembly stunned U.S. policymakers by voting against participation in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The no vote exposed severe fault lines in the U.S.-Turkish relationship, exacerbated by the subsequent outreach of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoan to Iran and Syria and the tendency of members of his Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalknma Partisi, AKP) to engage in anti-American rhetoric.[1] Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has indicated a desire to develop further ties with Turkey.[2]

Washington's ambiguous attitude toward the Kurdistan Workers Party (Partiya Karkaren Kurdistan, PKK) and Erdo?an's autocratic tendencies further eroded bilateral confidence.[3] A July 2005 Turkish poll underlined the deterioration in U.S.-Turkish relations. Some 50 percent of respondents held an "absolute negative view" of the United States.[4] Among U.S. policymakers - at least those outside the diplomatic service - the view toward the Turkish government was mutual.

Turkey's growing flirtation with Islamism has also undercut U.S. confidence in its long-time ally. Prior to becoming prime minister, Erdoan was arrested for reciting an Islamist poem that challenged the Kemalist basis of the state.[5] The AKP has worked to promote an Islamist agenda, seeking to empower graduates of religious schools, and facilitating the influx outside of regulatory oversight of billions of dollars from Persian Gulf and other Islamist sources.[6] More recently, the imprisonment without charges of a Van University professor?who later committed suicide - and the unprecedented arrest of the university's secularist rector has caused mainstream Turkish society to question Erdoan's intentions.[7]

Sami Al Arian, CAIR's - Council On American Islamic Relations - Favorite Terrorist

April 20, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On Monday, United States District Judge James Moody unsealed a plea agreement between U.S. government prosecutors and Islamist cause célèbre terrorist Sami al-Arian.

In that agreement al-Arian - a former University of South Florida professor - pled guilty to count four of the government's indictment admitting that he was part of a conspiracy to "make or receive contributions of funds, goods or services to or for the benefit of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad."

PIJ was designated a terrorist organization in 1995.

Al-Arian's brother - Mazen Al-Najjar, was arrested twice, once in 1997 and again in 2001 on terror related charges. Mazen was deported on a visa violation.

Al-Arian will be officially sentenced May 1 and is expected to also be deported. The maximum sentence for the offense to which he pled guilty is 5 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

American Wahhabist pressure groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR] maintain that the prosecution of a now admitted terrorist was a tragedy.

In a statement, CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

"We welcome the decision not to retry Professor Al-Arian. We are concerned however that the price paid for his freedom is deportation to another country, an additional burden on a family that has suffered tremendously over the past few years. The negative impact this tragic episode has had on the image of our legal system worldwide warrants a complete re-examination of government policies and procedures in such cases."

Joe Wilson And Valerie Plame To Appear At White House Correspondents Dinner, Courtesy Of ABC News?

April 20, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - According to lefty Joe Strupp of Editor & Publisher, Valerie Plame and Joe The Liar Wilson might be in attendance at the White House Correspondents dinner as guests of ABC News.

Plame, a former CIA desk jockey and Wilson an ex-Clinton serial liar became embroiled in controversy after he made false allegations on the question of Saddam Hussein' s attempts to purchase yellowcake uranium from Niger, alleging that the Iraqi dictator was never involved in the process and following up that highly publicized claim with a nation-wide public relations effort conducted at the behest of the usual Democrat/media suspects:

"I spent the next eight days drinking sweet mint tea and meeting with dozens of people: current government officials, former government officials, people associated with the country's uranium business. It did not take long to conclude that it was highly doubtful that any such transaction had ever taken place." - New York Times, "What I Didn't Find in Africa," Joseph C. Wilson 4th, July 6, 2003

All of this once again resolves around the now fabled "16 words" mentioned by President Bush in the 2003 State of the Union address:

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa."

This is roundly referred to by the left as the "lie" whereby Bush justified our invasion of Iraq.

Bloomberg And Menino Mayoral Gun Grab Planned

April 20, 2006 - Bellvue, WA - PipeLineNews.org - A highly-publicized "gun summit" planned by anti-gun Mayors Michael Bloombe rg of New York and Thomas Menino of Boston next week is really a planning session to devise more schemes to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens, which will only lead to more crime because people will be unable to protect themselves, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

"Rather than devising and suggesting more restrictions on the rights of law-abiding gun owners, these mayors need to recognize that urban violence is a symptom of deeper problems that their bankrupt social policies perpetuate," said CCRKBA Executive Director Joe Waldron.

"Ten years ago," Waldron said, ":the 'solution' to gun trafficking into New York City from southern states with so-called 'lax' gun laws was to impose one-gun-a-month laws in those states. That scheme proved a colossal failure because Virginia, where such a law is on the books, is still the number one source of illegal guns in New York. Yet honest citizens face ridiculous roadblocks to gun ownership, and legal concealed carry is impossible.

Yahoo Accused Of Complicity With Chinese Communist Government In Jiang Lijun Case

April 19, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - Reporters Without Borders has obtained a copy of the verdict in the case of Jiang Lijun, sentenced to four years in prison in November 2003 for his online pro-democracy articles, showing that Yahoo ! helped Chinese police to identify him.

It is the third such case, following those of Shi Tao and Li Zhi, proving the implication of the American Internet company.

The verdict, made available and translated into English by the human rights group, the Dui Hua Foundation, can be downloaded below.

"Little by little we are piecing together the evidence for what we have long suspected, that Yahoo ! is implicated in the arrest of most of the people that we have been defending,? the press freedom organisation said.

Hamas Terror Government Blames Israel For Passover Bombing

April 18, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The terrorist Hamas PA government defended yesterday's suicide bombing of a Tel Aviv restaurant, blaming Israel for the attack which was in their view the, "natural result of the continued Israeli crimes against our people," adding, "The Israeli occupation bears responsibility for the continuation of its aggression. Our people are in a state of self-defense and they have every right to use all means to defend themselves."

The official death toll for the bombing is nine, eight of whose identities have so far been released by Israeli forensic experts.

  • Binyamin Hafuta, 47

  • David Shaulov, 29

  • Phillip Balahsan, 45

  • Lily Yonas, 43

  • Ariel Darhi, 31

  • Boda Firushka, 50

  • Roselia Basanya, 48
  • Islamic Jihad and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade jointly took credit for the explosion, telling Reuters that the motivation was for, "Israeli massacres committed against our people in Gaza".

Iraqis Increasingly Relying On Iraqi Police For Security

    By Capt. Lyn Graves

April 18, 2006 - Kirkuk, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - When an Iraqi factory worker found a bag containing what he believed to be IED making materials, he knew who to call - the Iraqi Police station in Taza.

Such a call would seem to be a matter of course for Americans, but in Iraq this kind of action demonstrates a positive step forward for the Iraqi people?s confidence in their police.

"What I like is citizens seeing something out of place and calling the local Iraqi Police. It has taken awhile for local people to trust the coalition forces and the Iraqi Security Forces, but we are starting to see the benefits of the investments in time we have made," said 2nd Lt. Jeremy Fox of 1st Platoon, Company A, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

In visits to two towns in the Kirkuk region of north central Iraq, Fox and his platoon saw first-hand the progress made by the Iraqi Police and Army, and the corresponding trust given by the Iraqi people.

Pulitzer Journalism Awards Go To Lefty Bush Bashers

April 18, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - America's largest organization detailing liberal bias in the media, the Media Research Center reveals that the annual Pulitzer Prize awards announced Monday night rewarded Washington Post and New York Times reporters who exposed -- and thus undermined -- secret anti-terrorism efforts, as well as a Washington Post critic who mocked Vice President Cheney's outdoor apparel and ridiculed the supposed 1950s-era clothing worn by then-Supreme Court nominee John Roberts' kids. The Pulitzer board gave the "Beat Reporting" award to Dana Priest of the Washington Post "for her persistent, painstaking reports on secret 'black site' prisons and other controversial features of the government's counterterrorism campaign."

The "National Reporting" award was won by James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of the New York Times "for their carefully sourced stories on secret domestic eavesdropping that stirred a national debate on the boundary line between fighting terrorism and protecting civil liberty." Washington Post fashion writer Robin Givhan grabbed the "Criticism" award "for her witty, closely observed essays that transform fashion criticism into cultural criticism." In a January 2005 piece, Givhan complained that at the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, Dick Cheney "was dressed in the kind of attire one typically wears to operate a snow blower."

Richard Holbrook, Bill Clinton And The Revolt Of The Leftist Generals

    By Tony Blankley

April 18, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Washington Times - Consider two hypothetical situations. In the first, an Army general officer in a theater of war decides by himself that he strongly disagrees with the orders of the secretary of defense. He resigns his commission, returns to private life and speaks out vigorously against both the policy and the secretary of defense.

In example two, the top 100 generals in the Army military chain of command secretly agree among themselves to retire and speak out each one day after the other.

In example one, above, unambiguously, the general has behaved lawfully. In example two, an arguable case could be made that something in the nature of a mutinous sedition has occurred in violation of Article 94 of the Uniform Code of Military procedure. When does an expanded version of the simple honesty and legality of the first example cross over into grounds for a court martial? More specifically, can a series of lawful resignations turn into a mutiny? And if they are agreed upon in advance, have the agreeing generals formed a felonious conspiracy to make a mutiny?

This may sound far fetched, but in The Washington Post on Sunday the very smart, very well connected former Clinton Ambassador to the U.N. Richard Holbrook published an article titled "Behind the Military Revolt." In this article, he predicts that there will be increasing numbers of retired generals speaking out against Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. Then, shockingly, he writes the following words: "If more angry generals emerge -- and they will -- if some of them are on active duty, as seems probable ... then this storm will continue until finally it consumes not only Donald Rumsfeld."

Passover Terror Bombing Kills Six In Tel Aviv

April 17, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Islamic Jihad and the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade have both taken credit for a huge explosion which rocked a Tel Aviv sandwich shop this afternoon telling Reuters that the motivation was for, "Israeli massacres committed against our people in Gaza".

So far the toll is six killed with possibly more than 30 seriously injured.

The Israeli government has issued a statement holding the Palestinian Authority's Hamas government responsible for the attack.

"This Palestinian Authority, which has clearly defined itself as a terrorist entity, has tried to instigate terrorist support more than the previous one did, and we will act accordingly."

The bombing took place midway through Passover, one of Judaism's holiest festivals.

Iran Nuke Impasse, Rafsanjani - "The Islamic Republic of Iran does not intend to stop"

April 17, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a Monday press conference held in Kuwait, former Iranian president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani unequivocally stated his support for the rogue nation's nuclear program

"The Islamic Republic wants to continue along its path."

Rafsanjani also put the United States on notice that military action would have consequences.

"We are sure that America will not enter into such a predicament...But if (Iran) is subjected to aggression, then the war will have its consequences...Harm would not only engulf the Islamic Republic of Iran, but the region and everybody."

In a speech to Iranian students on April 12 current Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad claimed that his country was now using a sophisticated P-2 centrifuge design to enrich uranium.

This is viewed by Western intelligence analysts as a further indication that Iran's nuclear program is designed to fashion nuclear weapons and not civilian nuclear power as they have stated.

Rafsanjani's comments are particularly troubling in that they indicate high level Iranian consensus on the program, support for which has been cast in some quarters as primarily coming from a possibly less than stable president Ahmadinejad .

McCain Fans Flames Of Lefty Attack On Secretary Of Defense Rumsfeld

April 15, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - In a Friday press conference at his Phoenix office, and straying ever farther from the Bush reservation, Arizona's senior Senator John McCain did not hesitate from taking confrontational stands.

Adding to the heat generated by recent attacks against the Secretary of Defense by a number of disgruntled former general officers calling for his dismissal , McCain re-ignited his long standing dispute with Mr. Rumsfeld.

Long a critic of Rumsfeld's running of the Iraq conflict McCain stated, "I was asked a long time ago, I think a year and a half or two years ago, if I had confidence in Secretary Rumsfeld. I was asked that directly. I said, 'No.'"

Supporting Rumsfeld are the military's two most senior retired officers, General Richard Myers - most recently head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - and General Tommy Franks, who oversaw the successful 2003 invasion of Iraq.

Adding his voice, President Bush on Friday also expressed his full support of Mr. Rumsfeld.

To Bomb, or Not to Bomb - That is the Iran question

By Reuel Marc Gerecht, the Weekly Standard

April 15, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - When I was recently in Paris, a French diplomat explained to me why he--and many others in the French foreign ministry--thought the United States would, in the end, bomb Iran's nuclear-weapons facilities. Owing to Chinese and Russian obstreperousness, the United Nations would probably fail to agree on any sanctions, let alone a sanctions regime with sufficient bite to intimidate the mullahs. The Europeans--at least the French, Germans, and British if not the Italians--would do a bit better, primarily because the French, despite their laissez-passer cynicism and their Gaullist pride vis-à-vis the United States, have developed a strong distaste for the clerics. The mullahs did, after all, once bomb Paris and kill a slew of prominent Iranian expatriates on French soil; and the French don't particularly care for religious Third Worlders' joining the nuclear club. France might even lead the sanctions charge against Tehran--an astonishing historical moment for the Fifth Republic, which has usually aligned itself with Muslim Middle Eastern regimes or cultivated a profitable neutrality, especially when the United States was involved on the opposite side.

But this nouvelle différence française, alas, would not in all probability dissuade the Islamic Republic's nuke-loving theocrats. The Iranians would proceed, my French friend thought, with little of the dialogue-of-civilizations finesse and moderation they exhibited during the presidency of Mohammad Khatami--probably the period when the clerical regime made its greatest advances in its nuclear-weapons program. Iran's most politically savvy cleric, Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani, is trying hard to align most of the clerical establishment behind him, even the reformist and dissident mullahs who hate his guts, to ensure the fire-breathing president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, doesn't scare foreigners too much with his Khomeinist language and thought. Rafsanjani, the true father of the Islamic Republic's nuclear "energy" program, loathes the diehard ex-Revolutionary Guard Ahmadinejad, who threatens to ruin, among other things, Rafsanjani's hitherto successful strategy of dividing the Europeans from the Americans.

New Orleans' Police Returning Illegally Seized Firearms

April 15, 2006 - Bellvue, WA - PipeLineNews.org - More than seven months have passed since New Orleans residents were forcibly and illegally disarmed in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and starting Monday, April 17, the City of New Orleans will be returning seized firearms to their rightful owners, thanks to legal action by the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and National Rifle Association (NRA).

"We?ve learned from the police that starting Monday at 8 a.m., New Orleans gun owners can get their firearms back," noted SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. "The city had been denying for more than five months that these guns were in possession. Only when SAF and the NRA filed a motion to have Mayor Ray Nagin and Police Superintendent Warren Riley held in contempt of court did city officials miraculously discover that more than a thousand seized firearms were being stored."

The Little Ice Age And French Intransigence In The Face Of Globalism

By Dennis T. Avery, Sr. Fellow Hudson Institute

April 14, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The French don't learn quickly...recently, TV news channels have featured vivid pictures from France. First, The French Muslim youth rioted and burned cars because their unemployment runs close to 50 percent. Then, French students counter-rioted, against liberalizing French labor laws designed to guarantee the old General Motors-style "jobs for life" for a lucky few.

The truth of the story is that the welfare mentality in France helped prevent the creation of a single additional French private-sector job in the past 30 years.

How long will it take the French to adapt to globalization, with its increasing opportunities for the skilled and flexible?

A clue: During the Little Ice Age, it took them literally 500 years to recognize that the Earth?s climate had shifted.

France suffered more than 100 famines in the 500 years after the Medieval Warming ended in 1300 AD. Ultimately, the famines set the stage for the French Revolution in 1789.

    Nuclear Hostage Crisis

By Michael Rubin, Middle East Forum

April 14, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - On April 11, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced, "Iran has joined the club of nuclear countries." State television broadcast the audience chanting "God is great." The presence of senior military commanders underlined the nature of the program, which the regime vowed to continue. Mohammad Saeedi, deputy chairman of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, told state-run television that the Islamic Republic would begin uranium enrichment on an industrial scale but Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Hassan Firouzabadi suggested a new status quo. "The West can do nothing and is obliged to extend to us the hand of friendship," he said.

Some diplomats are inclined to take the bait. Kofi Annan urged "everyone to work more actively in search of a diplomatic solution." Earlier this month, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged the U.S. to engage Iran directly. On April 11, Council on Foreign Relations President Richard Haass said that if he were still the State Department's policy planning director, a position he held between 2001 and 2003, he "would put together a diplomatic package." International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Mohamed ElBaradei continues to push the idea. The idea of a Grand Bargain -- diplomatic recognition, security guarantees, and economic incentives in exchange for Iranian forfeiture of its nuclear autonomy -- has had long resonance in the foreign policy debate, even though a similar strategy failed to halt North Korea's program.

Proposals for direct negotiations may be attractive, but they ignore Iranian history. Implicit in any deal is recognition of a system of government which, according to recent surveys, enjoys at most 20% popular support. The Islamic Republic's greatest fear is demography; 70% of Iranians came of age after the Islamic Revolution. They are proud and nationalistic, yet outward looking. They represent Iran's future and have no love for their leadership. The White House should not squander their goodwill. In 1953 and 1979, Washington supported an unpopular regime against the will of the Iranian people; any deal which would preserve the regime would be to make the same mistake again.

Feds Breaking Bread With The Radical Islamists At IIIT

    By Joel Mowbray

April 14, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Washington Times - What a difference a few months can make. That's all it took for the federal government to go full-circle, from prosecuting an alleged terrorist to headlining an event co-sponsored by one of his biggest supporters -- a group that also happens to be still under investigation itself.

Through December of last year, the U.S. government was using its full force to convict the alleged North American leader of Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Sami al-Arian, of terrorism charges. By this March, the State Department dispatched its head of counterterrorism, Ambassador Hank Crumpton, to be the keynote speaker at a conference co-sponsored by one of Mr. al-Arian's former principal funder, the International Institute for Islamic Thought (IIIT). And for good measure, the Defense Department largely paid for the event.

Aside from the group's history with Mr. al-Arian, IIIT's co-founder and former longtime president -- and an unindicted co-conspirator in the al-Arian trial -- allegedly wrote a fatwa, or religious edict, years ago endorsing jihad against Israelis. Though he wasn't at the conference, Taha Jaber al-Alwani still sits on IIIT's board.

ABC News Liars Continue To Stoke - Absent Factual Basis - Iraq Bio-Lab "Controversy"

April 14, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - America's largest organization detailing liberal bias in the media, the Media Research Center reveals that picking up on a front page Washington Post story about how back in May of 2003 President Bush had cited trailers found in Iraq as proof of WMD, when a secret field report filed two days earlier had concluded the trailers had nothing to do with bio-weapons, on Wednesday morning ABC's Charles Gibson trumpeted how Bush made a statement he "knew at the time that was not true" and so it's "another embarrassment for the White House." Reporter Martha Raddatz agreed "it certainly is."

But, as reported by FNC's Carl Cameron, White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan pointed out at the Wednesday briefing that the day before Bush's 2003 comments a joint CIA/DIA report had concluded the trailers were bio-weapons labs, ABC's World News Tonight plowed ahead Wednesday night, ignoring the more substantial report which had much-wider distribution -- and CNN's Jack Cafferty ("ABC News has even reported that President Bush knew what he was saying about those trailers was false"), as well as MSNBC's Keith Olbermann ("The President knew they weren't mobile weapons labs from the very start. How Nixonian is this? We will ask John Dean"), piled on.

Islamist Pressure Groups Including Muslim American Society Complete Shakedown Of Bank Of America

April 13, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Wahhabist Muslim pressure groups have successfully forced Bank of America acquisition Fleet Bank to fund the production of a Da'wa program intended to portray Muslims in a more favorable light as a result of false charges of discrimination.

The spurious complaint against the bank was lodged by the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee of Massachusetts and the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation. (MORE), two notoriously pro-Islamist groups.

The ADC, parent of the Massachusetts state committee urges that American aid be given to the Palestinian Authority's terrorist Hamas government.

"At the same time, led by the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, local Palestinians and other Arab-Americans organized phone and letter-writing campaigns to local members of Congress and the Bush Administration to urge them not to end the assistance." - ADC Website

The Muslim American Society supports the imposition of sharia, or Islamic law in place of the U.S. constitution and has joined with groups like International ANSWER in Marxist denunciations of the United States.

MAS is described by the Chicago Tribune as being an arm of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.

Top al-Qaeda Terrorist Mohsin Musa Matawalli Atwah Believed Killed In Pakistan

April 13, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Cobra gunships swooped down on the North Waziristan tribal region village of Anghar Kalai on Wednesday evening killing al-Qaeda kingpin Mohsin Matawalli Atwah.

Atwah - Mohsin Musa Matawalli Atwah - is a native Egyptian and believed the mastermind behind the 1998 bombing of the American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

There is currently a U.S. government placed a $5 million on Atwah.

Also believed killed in the attack was al-Qaeda explosives expert Abdul Rahman al-Masri.

Bin-Laden Associate & Terror Liason Abu Umar al Kurdi Killed By Coalition Forces In Iraq

April 13, 2006 - Baghdad, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - Coalition and Iraqi forces killed a wanted terrorist, Rafid Ibrahim Fattah aka Abu Umar al Kurdi, during an early morning raid March 27 in the vicinity of Abu Ghraib. Officials report and confirm that Abu Umar al Kurdi had ties to Jaysh al Islami, Ansar al Sunnah, Taliban members in Afghanistan, Pakistani-based extremists, and al Qaeda senior leaders to include Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri.

Over the past six months, the targeted terrorist worked as a Jaysh al Islami cell leader in Baquba and allegedly was involved in the kidnapping of an Iraqi woman. Abu Umar al Kurdi traveled extensively throughout Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq over the past 15 years and met and formed a relationship with al Qaeda senior leaders in 1999 while in Afghanistan.

In the 1980s he formed ties with the Muslim Brotherhood while in Iran and Pakistan, and then he joined the jihad in Afghanistan in 1989. Within months he was given the title of an al Qaeda ambassador and attended military training camps near Jalabad where Osama bin Laden often visited.

Worldwide Joint Intelligence Operations Centers To Be Set Up By Department of Defense

By Gerry J. Gilmore American Forces Press Service

April 13, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The Defense Department is moving to establish a worldwide group of joint intelligence organizations designed to rapidly gather, interpret and act on information to better meet 21st-century military needs, senior military officials said here today.

On April 3, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld issued a directive to establish a Joint Intelligence Operations Center at DoD's Defense Intelligence Agency, at each unified combatant command and at U.S. Forces Korea, Army Lt. Gen. William G. Boykin, deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence and warfighting support, told reporters at a news briefing.

"What we're trying to do is move towards 'operationalizing' intelligence," Boykin explained. This entails transforming military intelligence from being a staff function into "both a staff function, when appropriate, and an operational concept," he said.

Findings of Capitol Hill and DoD commissions and studies, including the latest Quadrennial Defense Review, conducted since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States recommended the department integrate and improve the processes it uses to more rapidly gather, analyze and act on intelligence information, Boykin said.

Lou Dobbs Charges Major Media Mislead Public On Pro Illegal Immigration Marches

April 12, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLinenews.org - As the Media Research Center observes, "On Tuesday's Lou Dobbs Tonight on CNN, Dobbs scolded "this country's major daily newspapers" for how they "misled" readers in their coverage of immigration rallies since "their headlines failed to tell the truth about what the rallies are all about: Rallies in favor of illegal immigration, and amnesty for illegal aliens." Dobbs showed the front pages of four newspapers, starting with the New York Times' headline of "Immigrants Rally in Scores of Cities for Legal Status," followed by the Washington Post's description of "Immigration Rights Rallies," USA Today's "Historic rallies voice a 'dream'" and the Wall Street Journal's "Immigration-Policy Protests Draw Huge Crowds of Workers."

Dobbs, however, offered praise for one newspaper's "astute" take, quoting approvingly from a Tuesday Las Vegas Review-Journal editorial which contended: "Organizers wanted the marches to be more about people and less about policy. Most television stations swallowed the bait and delivered news reports soft enough to follow Sesame Street on PBS."

Minuteman Education Tour Detailing Threat Of Illegal Immigration Challenges Washington To - Secure America's Borders Now!

April 12, 2006 - Phoenix, AZ - PipeLineNews.org - The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps announced today a cross country "Secure America's Borders Now!" petition drive led by Minuteman volunteer Tony Dolz, a naturalized American citizen from Cuba. The tour will feature stops at state offices of United States Senators to deliver the petition copy now in circulation which communicates the Minuteman message for a secure America on behalf of her concerned citizens.

With polls consistently confirming that overwhelming majorities of American voters consider illegal immigration to be "a very serious problem," Dolz invites all those who would like to make their voices heard in Washington to meet him at his stops at Senate offices throughout the country, sign the petition, take copies to gather signatures of friends and family, and to write letters to the editor and call into talk radio shows all over America.

Dolz, himself a LEGAL immigrant to this country, will make his journey from California to Washington, D.C., meeting fellow Minutemen and supporters, and gathering additional petition signatures to deliver to the White House and Congress. The two-week swing is part of nationwide Minuteman efforts urging President Bush and Congress to protect our nation by immediately placing reserve military units on the border. The petition also calls on the Senate to follow the lead of the House of Representatives by passing legislation to secure our borders through fencing, technology and a massive increase in Border Patrol agents - without guest worker amnesty programs which would reward illegal entry and jeopardize American sovereignty by encouraging continued disdain for immigration law.

Republicans Engaging In Half-Truths In Defense Of HR 4437 Illegal Immigration Legislative Changes

April 12, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - House Republicans are engaged in a desperate attempt to quell the growing anger in conservative circles that Senate Majority Leader Frist and House Speaker Hastert's joint statement - supporting the removal of language in HR 4437 which makes "unlawful presence" in the United States a felony - has caused.

The strategy they seem to have seized upon involves claiming that the House leadership was always opposed to this section of HR 4437, but could not remove it because of Democrat opposition. The GOP leadership is taking position that an amendment was offered which would have removed the felony designation of the legislation's proposed offense "illegal entry and unlawful presence."

We find this defense is largely without merit, let's deal with both of these allegations separately.

Hastert And Frist Contemplate Sellout To Illegal Immigration Lobby

April 12, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - GOP leaders are preparing to sell-out the conservative constituency that put them in place to a group of non-citizen thugs who are here illegally.

Ignoring the rule of law, their grassroots supporters and a new Time Magazine poll [Illegal Immigration "Rights" Rejected By Huge Majority Of Americans] which conclusively shows that American citizens do not favor continued illegal immigration, Majority Leader Frist and Speaker of the House Hastert issued this joint statement Tuesday evening, "It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony."

If the Republican leadership succeeds along those lines it will effectively gut James Sensenbrenners' HR 4437, the "Border Protection, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005" which passed the House by a vote of 239-182.

Since March 25 the illegal alien lobby, aided by Stalinist organizers - International ANSWER - corrupt leftist labor unions - SEIU - and Hispanic supremacist groups such as MEChA, LULAC and La Raza have conducted a series of street demonstrations throughout the nation, attempting to influence DC legislators.

Neither Hastert nor Frist would clarify whether their proposed "compromise" bill would also include amnesty and a guest worker program.

Today's pro-illegal rallies were carefully staged, event organizers passed out American flags to blunt the criticism from the March 25 protests when Mexican flags were in the majority and upside down American flags were derisively flown.

Note to the protesters with the placards emblazoned "I am not a criminal" - YES you are.

You are here illegally, you are taking jobs that do not belong to you, you are depressing American wages, in many cases not paying taxes and you are consuming social services that you do not deserve. Being an American means following the rule of law, your first act upon entering the United States was to break our most important precept, that the United States is a nation of laws.

Newt Gingrich Completes Journey To Total Irrelevancy - Turns Tail On Iraq

April 11, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Newt Gingrich, the former GOP Speaker of the House, told students and faculty members at the University of South Dakota yesterday that, "It was an enormous mistake for us to try to occupy that country after June of 2003...We have to pull back, and we have to recognize it."

Gingrich's efforts to move to what he perceives as the squishy middle, alongside his health-care buddy Hillary Clinton on Iraq is indicative of the weakness and moral vacillation that has dogged him throughout his political career. The complications of those character defects are what led to his decision to resign not only from the Speakership but from Congress on November 6, 1998 - after a disastrous mid term election that found the GOP losing 5 seats - at a time when his personal life was again thrown into tumult over charges of sexual impropriety.

Nothing demonstrates Gingrich's poll-driven about face on national security more than the following partial transcript of a June 30, 2005 appearance by him on the Fox News talking head show Hannity & Colmes in which he characterized President Bush's stance on Iraq as "Lincolnesque."

"NEWT GINGRICH (R), FORMER SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE: Well, I think, first of all, interestingly there's a lot of parallel between Abraham Lincoln persevering and President Bush's emphasis tonight about perseverance.

The key question, it seemed to me, was that this is a very rational, factually based speech. He talked about $34 billion committed to help Iraq by three multinational institutions and dozens of countries. He talked about NATO taking over a major training role. He talked about 17 countries helping train the Iraqi troops and the Iraqi police force.

He gave the American people, I think, a sense of purpose, a sense of order. He mentioned that over 140,000 Iraqis are now serving in various security forces, including the police and the army. And I think people can sense from this speech a calm, steady, purposefulness that's very, very important.

And I think that it's -- the key question for critics is simple. What would you do? You have terrorists there who want to kill us. You have representatives of the old dictatorship who want to kill us. Do you really think America would be better off if we cut-and-run, if we showed to the world that we were afraid and we had no courage?"

Madrid Terror Bombing Investigation Nets 29 Suspects

April 11, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - 29 people were charged by a Spanish judge today in the March 11, 2004 Islamist terror attacks on Madrid trains, the worst such incident in Spanish history.

The bombings killed 191 and injured over 1,700 and directly led - in general elections three days later - to the ouster of the centrist Aznar government and substituted in its place one led by socialist Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero who immediately appeased the Islamists by ordering the withdrawal of Spain's small military contingent in Iraq.

The majority of the bombing suspects are either Moroccan or Syrian Muslim immigrants, though Spanish miner José Emilio Suarez Trashorras is being charged with providing the conspirators with plastic explosives and technical assistance.

Seven ringleaders of the plot - including mastermind Sarhane Ben Abdelmajid Fakhet - committed mass suicide, blowing themselves up in a suburban Madrid apartment on April 3, three weeks after the attack in the midst of a police raid.

The 1,500 page indictment indicates that the trial will be complex and lengthy, leading to speculation that the proceeding may not commence until next year.

The investigative judge, Juan del Olmo determined that the plotters were domestic and though they took inspiration from al-Qaeda websites they were most likely not internationally directed.

Illegal Immigration "Rights" Rejected By Huge Majority Of Americans - Time Magazine Poll

April 11, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Results from a poll conducted by the leftist Time magazine had to be a source of consternation for the multiculturalists who run that enterprise.

    According to those survey results:

    1. By a two to one margin - 56%-40% - Americans support the construction of a fence along the entire Southern U.S. border with Mexico.

    2. By a 62%-35% margin Americans support the use of U.S. troops along the border to stem the flow of illegal aliens.

    3. Nearly half of all American's support the deportation of illegal aliens back to their country of origin.

    4. 51% stated that we would be "better off" if the illegals were deported.

    5. 75% of those surveyed believe in denying all government services and assistance to illegal aliens.

    6. 69% wanted to deny driver's licenses to illegals.

Polling data was obtained from a survey of 1004 adults by Time Magazine, during the period of March 29 through 30; with a statistical margin of error of + or - 3 percent.

Bush Economic Boom - Democrats Chafe At Good News

April 11, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - "The US economy isn't just producing jobs these days," says an article in the Christian Science Monitor. "[I]t's also producing good jobs." According to the article:

"Management and professional occupations are employing 1.2 million more people this month than a year ago - or about 1 in 3 new jobs in America. This is the highest-paying of five broad categories tracked by the Labor Department. Not all of them are CEOs or engineers, but the median paycheck for full-time workers in this category is $937 a week, far above the US median of $651.

The construction industry continues to hammer out more than its share of new jobs. It accounts for about 6.4 percent of US jobs, but has provided 14.4 percent of the past year's job growth. The quality of construction jobs is mixed - often offering higher hourly pay than the US median but with lower benefits.

Even the manufacturing sector, which has long offered blue-collar workers a measure of middle-class prosperity, appears to be stabilizing after a period of heavy job losses. Despite downsizing in the automotive industry, 175,000 more people are employed in production occupations today than a year ago."

Military Exceeds Active Duty Rectruitment Goal For 10th Straight Month - Rumsfeld Applauds

April 11, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - via Armed Forces Press - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said today he's encouraged that the military services are exceeding their recruiting targets and called it an indication of the caliber of men and women joining and serving in the armed services. " It is encouraging that so many outstanding young people are continuing to raise their hands and volunteer to serve our country," he told Pentagon reporters.

The secretary referred to recruiting and retention rates released yesterday that show all four services met or exceeded their active-duty recruiting goals in March for the 10th consecutive month. Retention rates also remained high among active-duty troops, and all six reserve components reported solid recruiting and retention efforts.

"The men and women of the United States military protecting our country are serving superbly in many areas of the world, including Iraq," Rumsfeld said today. He noted specific examples in Africa, including the Horn of Africa area, and Afghanistan, all critical to the global war on terror.

Democrat Congressman Alan Mollohan Violated Ethics Laws Hundreds Of Times Complaint Charges

April 10, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) today disclosed that it filed a 500-page Complaint on February 28 with the office of the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia detailing hundreds of ethics law violations by Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV).

Rep. Mollohan is the ranking member of the House ethics committee and a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. The Wall Street Journal this morning carried a front-page story about the case.

The lengthy complaint followed a nine-month investigation by NLPC, the ethics group that also broke the Boeing procurement scandal in 2003. NLPC alleged financial conflicts of interest by former Air Force official Darleen Druyun in negotiating the lease of refueling tanker aircraft. Ms. Druyun and Boeing CFO Michael Sears eventually served prison terms, and Boeing CEO Phil Condit resigned.

NLPC's investigation began when its review of the Financial Disclosure Reports of House Appropriations Committee members showed a sharp increase in Rep. Mollohan's assets from 2000 to 2004. A closer examination revealed that Mollohan and his wife had more than $2,000,000 in real estate investments with a former staffer, Laura Kuhns, and her husband. Kuhns ran a nonprofit, Vandalia Heritage Foundation, which had received more than $28 million in appropriations earmarks with Mollohan's help from 2000 through 2005. She was also on the board of other nonprofit groups which had received over $100 million in earmarks of federal funds during the same period with Mollohan's help.

Illegal Immigration Demonstrations In Large Part Organized By Corrupt Labor Unions

April 10, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Carl Horowitz, director of the Organized Labor Accountability Project of the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC) today criticized the immigration rallies taking place in many American cities.

Horowitz said, "We support every citizen's right to exercise their First Amendment rights. But that is just the point. Many of today's demonstrators are not citizens. They are illegal aliens.

There are an estimated 11.5 million to 12 million people who live in this country illegally. That number represents a tripling from 20 years ago when Congress passed legislation granting amnesty to most illegals, three-fourths of whom happened to be from Mexico.

In some 65 or more cities around the U.S. today, advocates of mass immigration believe their moment in history has arrived. By sheer force of numbers and aggressive rhetoric, they can intimidate Congress out of enacting even moderate immigration reforms. Intimidation, however, should not be a democratic right.

There is any number of players behind today's massive events. First, there is the Mexican government. They are knee-deep in it. Carlos Gonzalez Gutierrez heads something called the Institute of Mexicans Abroad, an office of the Mexican government. Here's what he thinks of U.S. sovereignty:

"The basic concept is that the Mexican nation goes beyond the borders that contain Mexico. You can feel part of our nation without being on our territory. For the first time we are exporting our politics. Many Mexicans now live "transnational" lives, with one foot in the other. This contributes to everyone's well-being."

Iraq Intel Data Dump Summarized By Investor's Business Daily

April 10, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - With only a tiny fraction of the documents which were cleared for release having been made available to the public, so far it's clear that despite effforts by the leftist anti-war crowd to suggest the contrary, Saddam was clearly and intimately involved in funding and promoting terrorism of a uniquely Iraqi nature as well as funding existing al-Qaeda operations and insurgencies.

The below excerpts from Investors Business Daily also demonstrate that as late as 2000 was discussing plans to build a nuclear weapon, much to the chagrin of the "no WMDs found" crowd.

  • "July 2004 visit to Kazakhstan the Russian president said that between 9-11 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq, "Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received . . . information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the U.S. and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations."
  • Saddam's older son Uday ordered 50 members of the fanatical "Fedayeen Saddam" group to stage bombings and assassinations in Iraq and Europe - including London, where 10 people were assigned. Of this document an upcoming issue of Foreign Affairs Magazine notes, "regime-directed wave of 'martyrdom' operations against targets in the West (was) well under way at the time of the coalition invasion."
  • Saddam is heard on a 1997 tape predicting terrorism would soon be coming to the U.S., while his son-in-law - who was in charge of Saddam's weapons of mass destruction - gloats about lying to U.N. weapons inspectors to hide the extent of Iraq's WMD program.
  • Saddam, in a tape made in 2000, talks with Iraqi scientists about his plans to build a nuclear device. He discusses Iraq's plasma separation program - an advanced uranium-enrichment technique completely missed by U.N. inspectors.
  • An Iraqi intelligence document, released just two weeks ago, describes a February 1995 meeting between Saddam's spies and Osama bin Laden. During that meeting, bin Laden offered to conduct "joint operations" with Iraq. Saddam subsequently ordered his aides to "develop the relationship" with the al-Qaida leader.
  • A fax, sent on June 6, 2001, shows conclusively that Saddam's government provided financial aid to Abu Sayyaf guerrillas in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf is an al-Qaida offshoot co-founded by bin Laden's brother-in-law.
  • Book Review - "Escape From Gangsta Island - A School's Progressive Decline"

    Author - Bernard Paul Chapin
    2006, iUniverse, New York - $25.95 US

As reviewed by William A. Mayer, Editor & Publisher - PipeLineNews.org

April 10, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - This is not an unbiased book review as I have known Bernard Chapin for a number of years now.

One thing that is really wonderful about working via the Internet is that you can have relationships with people on a purely intellectual basis and I have enjoyed my many exchanges with Bernard, always finding his shorter pieces to be carefully crafted and to the point.

"Escape From Gangsta Island," Mr. Chapin's second novel, is an oddly affecting work.

When not writing - his third book is set for a Summer release - Bernard is employed as a school psychologist and college instructor.

On the surface, Escape is an unsettling, diary like unfolding of the demise of a special education high school - the Eastland Center, located in Chicago. However the novel works on many levels - the school being a metaphor for liberal social engineering and Chapin's critique of the dominant themes in educational theory - as championed by Eastland's genuinely mad administrator, Mrs. Chin - also skewer their Great Society ancestry.

Prior to the arrival of Mrs. Chin, Eastland functioned about as well as such institutions can be expected, handling the castoffs from five area mainline but "inner-city" type high schools. The students were resilient, achieving sometimes greatly in excess of what their innate potential and societal baggage might predicate.

    A-M-N-E-S-T-Y

By Mark Krikorian, Director Center For Immigration Studies

April 10, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - There was a series of TV commercials years ago for a brand of jelly that claimed to be so pristine that one should ask for it as "fruit." In each ad, a boorish guest at breakfast would set the biddies swooning by asking for the "jelly."

What sets the biddies swooning in Washington these days is the word "amnesty." Arlen Specter, for instance, last week had a conniption, saying "This word 'amnesty' is a code word, it is a code word to try to smear good-faith legislation." George Will rapped the knuckles of "faux conservatives" who were so impertinent as to use the forbidden word. And the Gray Lady herself, the New York Times, editorialized that "It Isn't Amnesty," wagging her finger at those who would employ "the most mealy mouthed word in the immigration glossary."

Even the elite media have taken sides, mimicking their approach to "the procedure which opponents call " 'partial birth' abortion"; the Washington Post reported Tuesday on a Senate compromise proposal that "could satisfy some conservatives opposed to any program that offers illegal immigrants a way to stay in the country and work toward citizenship, which they term 'amnesty.' "

The parallel to the abortion debate is telling; both "amnesty" and "abortion" (not to mention "acid"!) are things people dislike, so their promoters have to invent new terminology. The National Abortion Rights Action League, for instance, is no more - now it's "NARAL Pro-Choice America," fighting for "reproductive rights" and "women's health."

Coalition Funding Used To Open School For Girls In Afghanistan

April 9, 2006 - Patan Province, Afghanistan - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - Classes have begun at the recently constructed Patan Girls Primary School in the village of Patan. More than 300 girls are learning science, math, religion, history, language and drawing from female instructors at the school, which was built with $10,000 from the Coalition?s Commander?s Emergency Response Program fund.

[Editor's note: The Department of Defense image to the left, shows students assemble for opening ceremonies at the new Patan Girls Primary School in Paktia Province on April 5. Before the school was built - with $10,000 in Coalition funds - the girls were forced to attend classes outdoors.]

Before the school was built, the girls studied under a tree.

Chamkani District has 15 schools, 11 of which have female students. In addition, the Afghan Women?s Educational Center runs 35 satellite schools in the district?s villages, educating 931 girls.

Classes also started recently at the Samina Akbari Chamkani Girls School in Chamkani District, Paktia Province. That school was built with funds from a nongovernmental organization.

Must Read - Has Ahmadinejad Miscalculated?

By Victor Davis Hanson, National Review

April 9 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org -We are now acquainted with the familiar scenario: Iran is supposedly poised to become another disaster like Iraq. The United States, bruised in Iraq, needs redemption, and so will either press onto Teheran in its vainglorious imperial ambitions, or seek to direct attention away from Iraq by conjuring up another dragon to slay.

The Left further alleges that, once more, we favor preemption, wish to attack an Islamic country, will act unilaterally, and will sex up the intelligence to construct a casus belli about mythical "weapons of mass destruction." The result is that the mere idea of preemption in Iran is just too messy even to contemplate, so we may end up timidly "outsourcing" the problem to others. That is the general critique of our Iranian policy.

Meanwhile, amid that conundrum, the Iranians are engaged in a three-part strategy to obtain nuclear weapons. First, they conduct military exercises, showing off novel weapons systems with purportedly exotic capabilities, while threatening to unleash terror against global commerce and the United States. It may be a pathetic and circus-like exercise born of desperation, but the point of such military antics is to show the West there will be some real costs to taking out Iranian nuclear installations.

Second, Iranians simultaneously send out their Westernized diplomats to the U.N. and the international media to sound sober, judicious, and aggrieved - pleading that a victimized Iran only wants peaceful nuclear energy and has been unfairly demonized by an imperialistic United States. The well-spoken professionals usually lay out all sorts of protocols and talking-points, all of which they will eventually subvert - except the vacuous ones which lead nowhere, but nevertheless appeal to useful Western idiots of the stripe that say "Israel has a bomb, so let's be fair."

Afghan And Coalition Forces Kill Senior Taliban Commander

April 9, 2006 - Kabul, Afghanistan - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - Afghan and coalition forces killed a senior Taliban commander April 6 and destroyed a Taliban district headquarters this morning in a series of ongoing offensive operations in southern Afghanistan, military officials there said.

A joint coalition force killed the senior Taliban commander in the Musa Qaleh District in northern Helmand Province. The commander was tied directly to dozens of improvised explosive device attacks that killed and crippled multiple Afghans since 2001. He also was responsible for the deaths of Afghan and Coalition soldiers, officials said.

We "effectively disrupted the command and control of Taliban fighters in the northern Helmand and Uruzgan Provinces," said Army Maj. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, commander of the Coalition's Combined Joint Task Force-76. "This is another step in creating stability and supporting local governors."

Iraq Freedom Day Statement By Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and Gen. George Casey

April 9, 2006 - Baghdad, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - Today, on the third anniversary of Iraqi Freedom Day, the Iraqi people celebrate the freedoms that they were denied for more than three decades, and pause to remember the brave people who lead the way out of the darkness of tyranny into the light of freedom. On this day in 2003, Iraqis, assisted by U.S. Marines, toppled the huge statue of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein in Baghdad's Firdos Square.

This act was not just symbolic. It signaled the beginning of a fledgling democracy that continues to mature. During the past year alone, Iraqis have elected a constitutional government, drafted and ratified a constitution and held successful elections for their new national assembly. Through 2005, more and more Iraqis decided to engage in building the new Iraq, culminating in almost 75 percent of registered voters casting ballots in December's election.

Additionally, there have been great gains in the development of Iraqi security forces, forces critical to returning stability to Iraq and hastening the return of Iraq to the Iraqi people.

Liar Joe Wilson Update - Administration Clarifies Position On Libby National Intelligence Assessment Leak Charge

April 8, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - On Friday the Bush administration defended its position on what has been called an intelligence leak by Bush critics.

The controversy hinges on the matter of Joe Wilson's demonstrably false statements made in a July 6, 2003 op-ed piece published by the New York Times entitled, "What I Didn't Find in Africa."

Wilson's allegations, regarding Saddam Hussein's attempts to obtain yellowcake uranium from Niger were contradicted by a Senate Intelligence Committee investigation, which concluded:

"The report also said Wilson provided misleading information to The Washington Post last June. He said then that he concluded the Niger intelligence was based on documents that had clearly been forged because "the dates were wrong and the names were wrong."

American Aid To Palestinian Hamas Government Halted - Humanitarian Assistance Administered By U.N. Increased

April 8, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - On Friday the administration announced that it will end direct aid to the Palestinian government which is led by the terrorist organization Hamas.

    Europe has announced similar intentions.

State Department spokesman Sean McCormack presented Secretary Rice's statement on the matter.

"Because the new Hamas-led Palestinian government has failed to accept the Quartet principles of nonviolence, recognition of Israel and respect for previous agreements between the parties, the United States is suspending assistance to the Palestinian government's cabinet and ministries. The new Palestinian government must make -- must take responsibility for the consequences of its policies. The path back to the roadmap is clear -- acceptance of the three principles. If it accepts the Quartet principles, or a new government comes to power that accepts them, funding can be restored."

Bush Economy Roars Ahead, Unemployment Average Falls To Historic Lows - 211,000 Jobs Created In March

April 7, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - This morning, the Department of Labor employment confirmed: the Bush Economic Boom is in full swing. The DOL report showed that 211,000 new jobs were created in March - far more than experts had predicted - and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.7 percent -- also surprising the experts, and below the average of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.

The U.S. economy has created more than five million new jobs since August 2003 and more than two million in the last year alone. The new job growth continued a significant trend that now stands at 31 consecutive months of uninterrupted job growth.

GOP leaders are lauding this new report as further evidence of the success of Republican fiscal and economic policies, and the underlying strength of the American economy:

"This week marked Opening Day at baseball stadiums across the country, so it's only fitting that we score a homerun with our surging job growth. America's booming economy is putting stats on the scoreboard that are undeniable. ... Unfortunately, tax-and-spend Democrats want to reverse this economic tide. House Republicans will remain steadfast in our efforts to spend taxpayer dollars wisely, make the tax cuts permanent, and continue America's economic growth." -Rep. Dennis Hastert (R-IL), Speaker of the House

Frist McCain Immigration Legislation Fails, Bill "A Dead Horse"

April 7, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Conservative GOP members of the Senate today killed the amnesty for illegal aliens bill that Majority Leader Frist and McCain had constructed over the loud objections of the party's grassroots activists.

Arguing late into the night, Democrats and Republicans clashed over amendments designed to weaken what has rightly been perceived as legislation intended to reward lawbreakers.

After an attempt to cut off debate failed by a lopsided 60-38 margin, McCain admitted that stalling the bill at this point in the Senate session - just before the long Easter recess - "is a huge blow."

Senator Sessions [R-AL] went so far as to call the bill "a dead horse."

Arlen Specter chairman of the Judiciary Committee vows to make immigration reform his "number one priority," after the recess.

Frist McCain Senate Immigration Plan - We Have Come For Your Culture

April 6, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Bowing to pressure exerted by Hispanic rights groups, Senate Majority Leader Guillermo Frist and his sidekick Juan McCain today announced what they described as "un nuevo y muy bueno immigracion" package, making the twelve million illegal aliens currently residing in the United States eligible for citizenship.

Presidente Bush welcomed the Senate leadership's intent to sacrifice national sovereignty so that the larger goal of inclusiveness and multiculturalism might be preserved.

A White House spokesman speaking on condition on anonymity stated that El Presidente hopes to have the immigration bill on his desk for signature on Cinco De Mayo, which will now become a national day of celebration.

Plans are not fully set as we go to press, but a victory parade on Pennsylvania Avenue will be held after the bill's signing, featuring the theme "Mi Estados Unidos Es Su Estados Unidos."

Entertainment will be provided by the Hugo Chavez Mariachi Banditos.

Katie Couric Replacement, Meredith Vieira An Anti-War Bush Hater

April 6, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - America's largest organization detailing liberal bias in the media, the Media Research Center reveals that Meredith Vieira, the widely presumed replacement for Katie Couric as co- host of NBC's Today this fall [Wednesday's New York Times reported that "NBC has nearly concluded an agreement with Meredith Vieira of ABC to replace Ms. Couric as co-host of the Today morning show"] marched in an anti-Iraq war protest back in August of 2004. On the Monday, August 30, 2004 edition of the ABC daytime show she quad-hosts, The View, the former CBS 60 Minutes reporter told viewers that she attended the anti-Bush protest held in New York City on the Sunday before the Republican convention opened, insisting: "I didn't go anti-Bush or pro-Kerry. I'm still so upset about this war and I'm so proud I live in a country where you can protest."

She showed a photo of herself marching with her pre-teen daughter and her husband, Richard, who was the senior political producer at CBS News for most of the 1980s. Behind her in the photo: A protest sign featuring a "W," for George W. Bush, with a slash through it. Earlier in 2004, she declared of the Iraq war: "Everything's been built on lies. Everything! I mean the entire pre-text for war." When guest Ann Coulter charged that "liberals hate America," Vieira called that "stupid."

Hamas Minister - Khaled Abu Arafa - Arrested In Jerusalem

April 6, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Khaled Abu Arafa the Hamas terrorist party's Minister Of Jerusalem Affairs, was arrested by IDF forces today as he neared Izzariya, a suburb of Jerusalem.

Arafa was supposedly on his way to open an office in contravention of the Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement which bars the Palestinian Authority from opening offices in what are referred to as "contested" cities. The Israelis claim Jerusalem as a Jewish city, the Palestinians have laid claim to the Eastern secter of that city as their own.

Compounding the matter Arafa resisted as he was ordered to exit from his vehicle.

After Israeli authorities verified his identification both Arafa and his bodyguard were arrested.

A reporter for Al-Quds an Arabic newspaper was travelling with the pair and reportedly had his camera broken as he tried to record the event.

    American Jewish Committee at 100

April 6, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - via the Jerusalem Post - Where there are two Jews, there are three different opinions. And where there are 5.3 million American Jews, there are countless organizations claiming to represent, defend and articulate Jewish interests. The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations alone boasts 52 member groups.

That is both too many and too few. Too many organizations have lost their raison d'etre. They duplicate the work of others and survive on "life support" provided by self-interested benefactors. At the same time, too few organizations, evidently, are meeting the needs of those American Jews who feel estranged from the community.

One organization whose value is worth highlighting is the American Jewish Committee, which marks its 100th anniversary this month. Its leadership is now in Israel to celebrate the occasion.

Cindy Sheehan, Casey Sheehan And The Bare Grave

April 5, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Here lies the body of American hero Casey Sheehan, please note the absence of a headstone.

Since her son's death in service to this country, Cindy Sheehan has been all around the world, tearing America down, sliming President Bush and giving material aid to the Islamist enemy.

Sheehan received a $250,000 insurance payment from the Department of Defense upon Casey's demise, certainly she could spare part of that to provide a fitting monument to his memory, especially considering that without Casey's early death Cindy would be absent a visible means of support.

Actually it wouldn't cost Ms. Sheehan a dime.

    According to DOD:

"The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) furnishes upon request, at no charge to the applicant, a government headstone or marker for the grave of any deceased eligible veteran in any cemetery around the world."

Cindy had no qualms accepting the below monument to her colossal ignorance, certainly her hero son deserves adequate and dignified remembrance.

Cindy Sheehan recently purchased a new $20,000 vehicle for herself...Casey must be spinning in his grave.

Newsweek Cover Story - Illegals Under Fire

April 5, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Demonstrating little in the way of balance and contemptuous of the rule of law, the April 10 edition of Newsweek is an excursion into advocacy journalism so unsubtle as to be laughable.

The cover story "Illegals Under Fire," [written by Miami Bureau Chief Arian Campo-Flores] holds that there is no longer a "clear demarcation between legal residents and illegal aliens."

    ¿Tiene una tarjeta verde?

The contention being that with so many "mixed" families comprised of illegals and those who are only legal because of the 14th amendment, i.e. simply because they were born here - that "shades of gray multiply even more."

Journalism in the tradition of Chance the gardener; what might this piece mean if written by an author fluent in English?

527 Transparency Reforms Go To House Floor, Pelosi & MoveOn.org/Soros Types Resist

April 5, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - On April 5, the House will consider the 527 Reform Act (H.R. 513), a bill designed to close loopholes created by the overhaul of campaign finance laws in 2002. It does not create new rules or regulations, but rather will require 527 groups to comply with the same disclosure requirements and other campaign finance laws that apply to political parties and political action committees.

Many members who expressed concerns about the 2002 law believed it would create new loopholes and push dollars out of the transparent process that existed into a new world with little to no disclosure. That is exactly what happened, and that's why the 527 Reform Act closes this loophole.

Ironically, some of the strongest supporters of campaign finance "reform" in 2002 are now OPPOSED to this reform effort. House Democrats overwhelmingly supported the 2002 legislation, including Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD). Rep. Pelosi was fond of saying soft money was "corrosive," and said the 2002 bill would "end the corrosive influence of special interest money and level the playing field so that all Americans can participate and be heard."

Hezbollah Radio Shut Down, Removed From French And Spanish Satellite Broadcasts

April 5, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD), and its Coalition Against Terrorist Media (CATM), congratulates France Telecom's GlobeCast satellite distributor and the Spanish satellite provider Hispasat for removing Hezbollah's al-Nour radio from broadcast over three satellites reaching Latin America, Asia and Europe.

The move followed the designation last week of Hezbollah's al-Manar television station, al-Nour radio, and the parent company of both, the Lebanese Media Group, as Specially Designated Global Terrorist entities by the U.S. Treasury Department.

"Once alerted to the problem, GlobeCast and Hispasat have been extraordinarily responsive in removing Hezbollah's media properties from broadcast and should be congratulated," said Mark Dubowitz, COO of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, which founded CATM. "Al-Manar and al-Nour are funded by the Iranian regime and used by Hezbollah to recruit suicide bombers, raise money for terrorist operations, and incite violent attacks. The Treasury Department?s recent designation sends an unmistakable signal that their broadcasts must not be tolerated."

    Re-energizing a West Bank-Jordan Alliance

By Dan Diker and Pinchas Inbari, Middle East Forum

April 5, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews - Hamas's landslide victory in the recent Palestinian parliamentary elections is the latest sign of the Palestinian Authority's (PA) failure. The collapse of the West Bank into civil chaos and jihadist control would pose a security dilemma not only for Israel but also for Jordan. It is a scenario that increasingly occupies the Jordanian government's strategic thinking.

Jordan's interest in the West Bank is long-standing. The Jordanian army occupied the West Bank and Jerusalem in 1948 but was ousted by the Israeli Defense Forces in the 1967 Six-Day war. King Hussein continued to claim sovereignty until July 31, 1988,when, in the midst of the first Palestinian intifada, he renounced Jordan's official administrative and legal roles in the territory. His motives were not entirely altruistic or sparked by commitment to Palestinian nationalism; rather, he feared the spread of Palestinian unrest to the East Bank.

The king could not, however, renounce all Jordanian interests in the territory because the economic, social, and familial links were too strong. Hussein also remained committed to Jordan's traditional custodial role for the Haram al-Sharif mosque in Jerusalem even as Arafat's Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) worked to undermine Jordanian control there. Despite Jordan's unilateral disengagement from the West Bank, the kingdom continued to issue two-year Jordanian passports to West Bankers, down from the standard five-year passports they had previously received.

While the Palestinian Authority became the Palestinians' sole international representative during the Oslo years, its failure to assert control and become a politically viable entity has caused Amman to reconsider whether a hands-off strategy toward the West Bank is in its best interests. Simultaneously, many Israeli and West Bank Palestinian officials are also reconsidering whether a preeminent Jordanian role in the Palestinian future will better advance their peace and security.

    Jordan's Vulnerability

On November 9, 2005, Iraqi suicide bombers operating under the command of Al-Qaeda-in-Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, himself a Jordanian, struck three hotels in the Jordanian capital Amman, killing sixty people and wounding more than 100. The attack shook Jordanian confidence. King Hussein and his son and successor, King Abdullah, long prided themselves on establishing security via relations with all neighbors. While Egypt was the first Arab country to establish relations with Israel, Jordan had a better working relationship. Simultaneously, the Jordanian government developed close relations with Saddam Hussein's regime in Iraq. In 1991, for example, King Hussein declined to join the international coalition against Iraq. After King Hussein renounced Jordanian claims to the West Bank in 1988, the Jordanian government worked to balance its interests with the PLO, a group that had once tried to overthrow the Hashemite kingdom, and later with the Palestinian Authority.

    The Last Days of Manliness

    By Bernard Chapin

April 5, 2006 - Chicago, IL - PipeLineNews.org - In the twenty-first century workplace, the neutered male, all-too-often, is the employee most successful at climbing organizational hierarchies. Being a good listener, empowering others, and providing solicitous attention-as opposed to speaking the truth, taking a stand, and defending the meek-are the traits most likely to result in becoming a CEO or CFO. To get ahead, one must avoid confrontation rather than precipitate it. Characteristics like stoicism, independence, and reticence are now construed as signs of not being a team player despite their once being prevalent in the manliest of men. Perhaps a desire to commemorate what once was is what motivated Harvey Mansfield to write his book, Manliness, as the term itself has become a pejorative.

Manliness presupposes the judging of others, the need to act honorably, and that honesty is not optional regardless of whom the truth might offend. Mansfield defines the manly attributes and includes assertiveness, spiritedness, confidence, and risk taking as being essential elements. Such tendencies are diametrically opposed to consensus building and socially coerced sensitivity.

The author is careful to point out that manly men are a subset of the whole. Those who approximate these features are the superlative and rare; although, the author regards certain women, like Margaret Thatcher, as possessing manliness. For Mansfield, the perfect exemplar of these traits was Theodore Roosevelt, but Ronald Reagan and Winston Churchill would also meet all criteria. Avoiding these two figures may have been a conscious attempt on the part of the professor to avoid appearing partisan. In fact, his initial unenthusiastic endorsement of the concept made this reviewer wonder if the book would be detached to the point of irrelevancy.

ACLU vs Boy Scout Case Heads To Court Of Appeals

April 5, 2006 - Chicago, IL - PipeLineNews.org - In 2005, a federal district court in Chicago sided with the ACLU and ruled that the military's support for the National Scout Jamboree - held once every four years at Fort A.P. Hill in Fredericksburg, Virginia - unconstitutional. The case is Winkler v. Rumsfeld, No. 05-3451 (7th Cir.).

The ACLU's claim is that the Scout Oath's "duty to God" makes the Boy Scouts a religious organization, like a church, and that military support for the Jamboree violates the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

If the ruling stands, the military may not lend equipment or provide logistical support to the Jamboree, as it does for many other civic organizations. The Department of Defense appealed this decision to the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in Chicago. Oral arguments are now scheduled for Thursday, April 6 at 9:30 a.m. CST.

    Tom DeLay Resigns - Statement

April 4, 2006 - Sugarland, Texas - PipeLineNews.org - For the past 21 years as your Congressman, it has been an incredible honor to represent the citizens of the 22nd District of this great state of Texas.

What a pair of decades we have lived together.

When I started in politics, I was inspired by the optimism and conservative principles embodied by one of our greatest presidents, Ronald Reagan. Since I first asked for your votes for Congress back in 1984, America has moved closer to, not further from, the "shining city on a hill" that he so magnificently described.

She has risen from malaise, won a cold war and a few hot ones, and liberated hundreds of millions across Europe and tens of millions of Afghans and Iraqis.

At home, we moved from policies that had long empowered government to finally empowering citizens, taxpayers and communities...initiating sweeping and positive change across all facets of American society.

While in Washington in that first decade of service, I was also privileged to be part of another triumph...finally providing Americans with a strong, competitive two party system at the national level.

Our efforts culminated in the transformational election of 1994 in which voters elected Republican majorities in both Houses of the United States Congress.

Zacarias Moussaoui Found Eligible For Death Penalty

April 4, 2006 - Alexandria, Virginia - PipeLineNews.org - Al-Qaeda terrorist plotter Zacarias Moussaoui is eligible for the death penalty, an Alexandria Virginia jury found yesterday.

The jury deliberations on the fate of the French born Moussaoui - the only person charged in the United States with complicity in the September 11 attacks - now move on the question of whether the death penalty should be imposed.

This phase of the trial have been marked by irregularities which at times threatened to derail the prosecution's case as it seeks the death penalty.

Transportation Safety Administration attorney Carla Martin was found to have "improperly prepared" seven prosecution witnesseses prompting presiding judge Brinkema to state, "I don't think in the annals of criminal law there has ever been a case with this many significant problems."

Blaming Islamic Apostasy Laws on Western Imperialism

    By Daniel Pipes

April 4, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The recent case of Abdul Rahman, an Afghan who converted to Islam and was sentenced to death for doing so, has made Islamists in the West squirm. The Shari?a is perfectly clear and unanimous about the need to execute Muslims who leave their faith, whether becoming atheists or converts to another religion. If a tutorial in the matter were needed, the Rushdie affair of 1989 provided an ample one. But it's not possible to acknowledge this fact to Westerners who, as one, condemn such intolerance.

So Islamists have come up with various ways of changing the subject or pretending they are shocked. My favorite response has to be that of one Louay M. Safi, writing in a strident Islamist website that goes under the innocuous name of Media Monitors Network...Safi has the audacity to state that "the Qur'an is clear on religious freedom" and instead blames the Islamic practice prohibiting apostasy on Western imperialism.

Military, Industry Must Work Together to Win Long War, General Says

By Steven Donald Smith, American Forces Press

April 4, 2006 - Hampton, VA - PipeLineNews.org - The U.S. military and private sector defense industry must work together to win the Long War against terrorism, the general who serves as commander of U.S. Joint Forces Command and as NATO's supreme allied commander for transformation said here today.

"The things we're doing with you in cooperative research and development agreements is indicative of the importance we place on this relationship, so that we can build the kinds of equipment our troops need to fight and win the war we're fighting," Air Force Gen. Lance L. Smith told a defense industry audience at the 2006 JFCOM Industry Symposium.

The symposium is co-hosted by U.S. Joint Forces Command, which leads the Defense Department's effort to transform the military to meet challenges associated with the Information Age, and the National Defense Industrial Association. This is the sixth year JFCOM and NDIA have worked together on this type of event.

This year's theme is "Building Knowledge For The Warfighter" and will focus on enabling technologies to support joint, coalition and interagency operations; global perspective; knowledge fusion across multiple and critical domains; coalition battle-space awareness; modeling and simulation; and training. The purpose of the symposium is to provide a legal and ethical forum for the interchange of ideas between the military and industry to resolve industrial problems of joint concern, military officials said.

Al Jazeera Apes Washington Post Screed - "Are we heading for another 9/11 if Iran's attacked?"

April 3, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Words have meanings and the constant leftist drumbeat of the American press has consequences; the "unnamed" intelligence sources are back...

From Al Jazeera - Amid mounting international pressure on Iran to suspend its nuclear program, American intelligence experts warn that the Islamic Republic would respond to any preemptive military strike carried out by the U.S., whether backed by its European allies or not, and that by deploying its intelligence operatives carry out bloody attacks worldwide.

In an article posted Sunday on its Web site, The Washington Post quoted unnamed intelligence and terrorism experts on Sunday as saying that Iran would carry out bloody attacks against U.S. targets inside Iraq, where Iranian intelligence agents are believed to be already operating.

Iran would strike against U.S. targets in Iraq and there is "growing consensus that Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States, Europe and elsewhere," The Post said.

The Da Vinci Code - Tom Hanks Falls From Grace

    By Thomas Fredericksen

April 3, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Last week we published Tom Hanks And HBO - Tag Team Mormon Bashing in BIG LOVE in an effort to explore Mr. Hanks' recent movement towards leftist culture warrior.

Hanks has maintained an intentionally low profile regarding his political leanings - no Sean Penn or Alec Baldwin here. Similarly, Hanks' handlers have done a stellar job of packaging the star up to this point, so good a job in fact that his recent self-outing is still difficult to reconcile with his heretofore public image.

    Follow The Money

Both Tom and his wife Rita Wilson have contributed a substantial amount of money to political candidates, only Democrat candidates.

According to Federal Election Commission [FEC] Hanks and Wilson, have been heavily involved Hollywood's efforts to subsidize the left.

Rita Wilson's Federally reportable contributions - Rita Wilson

Hanks' Federally reportable contributions - Tom Hanks

Totals - Rita Wilson - $34,500 & hubby Tom $17,000 to political campaigns where Federal reporting is mandated - $51,500 in combined contributions.

Even by Hollywood standards the above represents considerable financial support. By way of contrast, stridently left-leaning Barbara Streisand has contributed only about $38,000 over the same period, to essentially the same candidates.

Hanks has done a very good job of keeping this political activism under the radar.

Hanks has never hidden from the fact he is a Democrat, but he has previously been more comfortable working behind the scenes, rather than fronting for causes.

Immigration: American Dhimmitude - The Road From Amnesty

By Mark Krikorian, Director Center For Immigration Studies

April 3, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens and their supporters have marched over the past couple of weeks demanding amnesty and opposing stricter immigration enforcement.

This isn?t really about immigration, though - it's about power.

What we're seeing in the streets is a naked assertion of power by outsiders against the American nation. They demand that we comply with their wishes and submit our immigration policies for their approval, and implicitly threaten violence if their demands are not met. Far from being a discussion among Americans about the best way to regulate immigration, the illegal-alien marches have been marked by the will to power: ubiquitous Mexican flags, burning and other forms of contempt for the American flag, and widespread displays of blatant racial chauvinism and irredentism.

This is precisely the same kind of challenge that aggressive outsiders are making against other parts of the West, including Muslim immigrants in Europe and, in the most extreme form, Palestinians in Israel. Supremacist Muslims have demanded that Europe repudiate Israel, legally prohibit public criticism of Islam, downplay acts of violent Jew-hatred by immigrants, and not deport Muslim illegal aliens. And some Palestinians, of course, demand that Jewish state abolish itself altogether, actually cutting it out of maps of the Middle East (just as illegal-alien marchers in L.A. held signs of North America with the United States crossed out).

Of course, we face a lower-calorie version of the challenge faced by Europe and Israel. The outsiders rejecting the legitimacy of our constitutional order are from Christian, quasi-Western backgrounds, and come from countries whence we have successfully taken, and Americanized, immigrants in the past. Consequently, the challenge has so far been marked by relatively little violence, nothing like the murders and bombings and riots in Europe and Israel.

But these differences merely mean that we have a better chance of overcoming the challenge - unlike Europe, which may well never persuade its Muslim population to assimilate.

H.R. 609 Passes First Hurdle - College Access And Opportunity Act - More Pork And Empty Promises From The GOP?

April 1, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - By a vote of 221-199 the House of Representatives passed on Thursday a bill which the Congressional Budget Office projects will cost at least $37 billion over the next 5 years if it survives an uncertain fate as it goes to the Senate.

Yet we find that at a time when concerned parties are calling attention to increasing deficit spending the House leadership is either unwilling or unable to provide any guidance on the degree to which this bill will impact the budget.

Repeated calls to Majority Leader Boehner's office and the House Education & the Workforce Committee for clarification have not been returned.

The legislation in question is H.R. 609, the "College Access and Opportunities Act" and it's a major rewrite of the 1965 Higher Education Act, a remnant of Lyndon Johnson's failed "Great Society" social engineering.

This bill is the handiwork of Majority Leader John Boehner [R-OH]. The GOP fact sheet touts the legislation as being all things to all people; increasing access and aid levels while decreasing costs - a dubious proposition that doesn't pass the "smell test."

Iraq War As Covered By Coalition Forces

    By Maj. David Albano

April 1, 2006 - Mosul, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - Soldiers do what soldiers do; they fight wars. When they do, who better to tell their stories of heroism, commitment and sacrifice than a public affairs soldier? Reporting and photographing combat soldiers is the "Fighting" 138th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment?s mission in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Capturing soldier?s hearts and souls in a story or picture is a skill perfected over time. One must share the pain of loss, the bond of friendship, and the sense of commitment.

Sgt. Dennis Gravelle from Gansevoort, N.Y., performs this mission on a daily basis. On a recent day, Gravelle accompanied members of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 1st Infantry Regiment, 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team through some of the most dangerous streets in Mosul during a dismounted movement to contact.

He documents their war-time trials and tribulations as the Army trained him to do.

New Commander Takes Charge of Task Force Guantanamo

    By Sgt. Sara Wood

April 1, 2006 - Guantanamo Bay, Cuba - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - On Friday, Navy Rear Adm. Harry B. Harris assumed command of the Guantanamo Task Force from Army Maj. Gen. Jay Hood, who has been the commander since March 2004.

Harris, who most recently had been the director of the information, plans and security division for Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael G. Mullen at the Pentagon, said he is honored to take command of a force that plays such an important role in the war on terror.

"I'm very impressed by the people that work here," Harris said in an interview yesterday. "The dedication that I've seen with the military folks and the civilians that are here - I think they're doing a great job. I think their country is lucky to have them down here, and I'm very lucky and fortunate to be asked to take charge."

Afghanistan Operation Progresses In Uruzgan Province

April 1, 2006 - Bagram, Afghanistan - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - Afghan and Coalition forces engaged insurgents on Friday morning, killing one and seizing multiple munitions, including an improvised explosive devices and IED-making materials, while conducting offensive operations in the Chora District of Uruzgan Province.

The successful engagement came after a combined Afghan National Army and Coalition patrol observed a small group of insurgents carrying rocket propelled grenade launchers. A subsequent search uncovered assault rifles, pistols and ammunition, mortar sights, the IED and IED-making materials and rocket propelled grenades.

"This operation is another fine example of how the ANA and Coalition are working together to rid Afghanistan of the perpetrators of violence and unrest," said Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, spokesman for the Coalition?s Combined Joint Task Force - 76.

Borders and Waldenbooks Cave To Islamofascist Intimidation

March 30, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Claiming fears for their customer's safety, both Waldenbooks and Borders bookstore have refused to carry the April/May issue of "Free Inquiry" magazine because it contains a number of the supposedly "Islamophobic" Danish cartoons which set off a worldwide conflagration of Muslim street violence and murder starting in mid-January.

The magazine is published by the Council for Secular Humanism, based in Amherst, Massachusetts.

About the decision, spokesman for Borders, Beth Bingham stated:

"For us, the safety and security of our customers and employees is a top priority, and we believe that carrying this issue could challenge that priority."

Regarding the decision by Borders and Waldenbooks to censor from its shelves the current issue of Free Inquiry, editor Paul Kurtz responded:

"What is at stake is the precious right of freedom of expression...Cartoons often provide an important form of political satire...To refuse to distribute a publication because of fear of vigilante violence is to undermine freedom of press so vital for our democracy."

On the matter of reciprocity, both of these national bookselling chains however have had no problem selling the anti-Catholic tract the Da Vinci Code for the past two years, most likely an oversight that will be corrected once it is pointed out to them.

Rob Reiner Busted In $23M Conflict Of Interest Scheme - Using Children's Funds To Further His Personal Agenda

March 30, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Caught in a $23 million scandal, Hollywood leftist Rob Reiner was forced to resign today from the First 5 California Children and Families Commission which he chaired for seven years.

Reiner a former sit-com actor was responsible for narrowly passing a 1998 California initiative which increased cigarette taxes through which "First 5" was eventually funded.

His resignation stems from the use of those monies to promote a $23 million advertising campaign for early childhood education at a time when Reiner was also seeking to pass a new initiative which would add a 1.7-percentage-point income-tax surcharge on high income Californians to force a - [Democrat fat cat] California Teacher's Association & Union supported - universal pre-school education program on the state.

As the Sacramento Bee's Dan Walters said of Reiner's conflict of interest:

"...Reiner personally sponsored the initiative that raised cigarette taxes to finance children's programs, then began pushing another measure to create a universal program of preschool education in California. The massive propaganda campaign, financed with cigarette tax revenue from the first measure, was launched last year just as Reiner began promoting the new measure that would tax high-income Californians about $2.4 billion a year to underwrite preschool...As more details of the public relations and advertising contracts totaling $230 million seep out, their nexus with the initiative drive becomes increasingly obvious. Polling apparently had found little voter support for ramping up preschool education, so the ads would be aimed at changing voters' minds."

Governor Schwarzenegger, increasingly becoming an embarrassment to the state's GOP - a difficult thing to accomplish - heaped praise on the now disgraced Reiner:

"Because of Rob's efforts, California has become a national leader in providing early childhood health and education services for our youngest children and their families."

The state legislature has asked for a complete audit of expenses associated with Reiner's stewardship - specifically advertising and consulting contracts and California's Attorney General Lockyer has referred the matter to the Sacramento County DA.

Coalition Doctors Providing Help To Impoverished Villagers

By Air Force Staff Sgt. Marti Ribeiro

March 30, 2006 - Mehtar Lam, Afghanistan - PipeLineNews.org via Blackanthem Military News - At seven remote villages, men, women and children received treatment for ailments ranging from headaches to heartburn. Children were dewormed; villagers also received vitamins and instruction in sanitation.

Marines assigned to the Mehtar Lam Provincial Reconstruction Team escorted 18 medical professionals, including Afghan and Coalition doctors, to the villages from March 19 through March 24.

The medical professionals set up in clinics, schools and fields - whatever sites were available in each village. Men, women and children were separated and evaluated by a triage team composed of Army and Air Force medical technicians. Appropriate medications were distributed. If further evaluation was needed, patients were sent to the physicians.

"In most cases, the Afghan physician observed the patient and then discussed treatment and medication with the American doctors," said Army Lt. Col. (Dr.) Drew J. Kosmowski, the surgeon for the Coalition?s Combined Joint Task Force - 76 and a member of the medical civic assistance program team. "Sometimes we had to prescribe different medications based on what we brought with us."

Constitutional Rights Group Charges Brady Campaign Will - "Trample The Second Amendment"

March 30, 2006 - Bellvue, WA - PipeLineNews.org -After more than two decades of trying to destroy the firearms rights of more than 80 million law-abiding American gun owners - and statistically failing to show any impact on violent crime - the Brady "Campaign Against Illegal Guns" being launched Thursday is yet another crusade whose ultimate goal is to trample the Second Amendment into dust.

That's the reaction from Alan Gottlieb, chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA).

"This isn't a new campaign against illegal guns," he stated, "it's the same old campaign against all guns, and the American citizens who own them.

"Over the past several years," he continued, "anti-gunners have been claiming credit for reduced crime when it has really been initiatives mounted by gun owners across the country that have stopped criminals cold and put them in prisons where they belong."

Guest-Worker Programs Are a Dead End

By Mark Krikorian, Director Center For Immigration Studies

March 29, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via - Many Republican politicians have a weakness for guest workers. After all, a "temporary" foreign worker program seems like the ideal way to reconcile competing interests: It appears to satisfy the voracious appetite of business for cheap, servile labor but without stoking public concern over fiscal costs and social disruption.

President Bush and most Senate Republicans, including John McCain and Arlen Specter, have backed guest-worker proposals ranging from the huge to the unlimited. Something of the sort is likely to be included if the Senate manages to pass an immigration bill this year, though the companion bill passed by the House of Representatives in December does not contain such a program.

Well, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Far from being the silver bullet that promoters imagine, guest-worker programs are a dead end, both morally and practically, and the sooner lawmakers reject this approach to immigration, the better.

First, an important distinction: Much of the current debate in Congress is about using a guest-worker program as the means of legalizing the 12 million illegals already in the country. In other words, give them amnesty by re-labeling them as "temporary" workers in order to launder their status and make them legal. The guest-worker programs in this case are merely disguises for amnesty and must be debated in that context.

    Global Warming Getting Colder?

    By Alan Caruba

March 29, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The first thing we have to do is fire all the reporters, editors and headline writers who have not got a clue about "global warming" except that it scares the hell out of readers and sells newspapers.

In late March, my local daily carried an Associated Press article by Randolph E. Schmid with a headline, "Global warming warns Earth of a sea change." It ran the story across six columns and threw in a photo of the Greenland ice sheet.

Such stories are best distinguished by how many times the words "probably," "may," and "could" occur in the body of the text. These are very slippery words used by so-called scientists trying to justify their latest "findings." If you look for something hard enough, you are bound to find some signs, some indicators, some intimations that something is happening or about to happen. Every day people find a reason to buy stocks whose value disappears for unforeseen reasons.

Schmid began his article with his opinion that "The Earth is already shaking beneath melting ice as rising temperatures threaten to shrink polar glaciers and raise sea levels around the world." You had to read to the end of the second paragraph to learn that he was proclaiming all this would occur thanks to "new research appearing in today's issue of the journal Science." The only problem is that this pathetic excuse for a scientific publication has been banging the global warming drum for so long, its editors are desperate to publish anything to support the theory.

Time Cover Story Offers No Evidence Of Human-Driven Warming

    By Dennis Avery, Hudson Institute

March 29, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - March 29, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Time devotes its latest cover to the "near-certainty" that humans are causing dangerous global warming. However, Time offers evidence only of a warming, which could be either man-made or natural.

Based on historic and geophysical evidence, Time's new cover story is likely to be as wrong as its 1974 story touting global cooling! Newsweek did one the next year.

Neither magazine understands the moderate, natural climate cycle that history tells us has dominated the last 2000 years of Earth's temperature variations:

The Romans grew wine grapes in England in the 1st century, during the Roman Warming. Then, during the Dark Ages, Britain was too cold for grapes.

The Britons themselves grew wine grapes in England in the 11th and 12th centuries, during the Medieval Warming. The Domesday Book, compiled right after the Norman Invasion of 1066, records more than 70 vineyards. During the following Little Ice Age, London held ice festivals instead of wine tastings.

Dissident Watch, Iraq: Kurdistan's Kamal Sayid Qadir

By Michael Rubin, Editor Middle East Forum

March 28, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On October 26, 2005 security officers associated with Iraqi Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani's Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) detained Kurdish writer and Austrian citizen Kamal Sayid Qadir in Erbil, northern Iraq. Qadir had angered Barzani with several articles describing corruption and nepotism in his administration of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Barzani's militia subsequently held Qadir for weeks without charge and without access to an attorney or his family.

On November 9, International PEN, a London-based press freedom advocacy organization, wrote to Barzani. The KDP office in London answered that the Kurdish government had arrested Qadir for defamation of "certain prominent elected official politicians." After a one-hour trial, a Kurdish court convicted and sentenced Qadir to 30 years in prison. The Committee to Protect Journalists said that Qadir had only five minutes to confer with a court-appointed defense attorney before trial and sentence.

On January 7, 2006, Masrour Barzani, son of Masoud and head of KDP intelligence, wrote that, "People should not libel and accuse others just because they want to," but added that "no one in our family has filed any complaints." However, Masrour said that others "have complained and had him [Qadir] arrested by the order of the court." The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) subsequently released a press statement saying that Qadir had been charged with defamation of public institutions. Voice of America radio, in a January 6 editorial "reflecting the views of the U.S. government," strongly condemned Qadir's detention. In response to the outcry, the KRG has said it will release and retry Qadir.

Iraqi Kurdistan is at a political turning point. Prior to the fall of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein's government, Kurds complained they suffered from two embargoes: United Nations' sanctions on Iraq, and the Iraqi government's own blockade of the recalcitrant region. After liberation, aid money and optimism flooded the region. Investment grew. So, too, did corruption.

Kadima Victory A Big Loss For Israel

March 28, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Amidst the lowest voter turnout in Israeli history [estimated at 62%] the MSM is presenting today's election in Israel as a vindication of "moderation" via the clueless secularism of Kadima.

As Militant Islam Monitor's Beila Rabinowitz observes, "If the nihilists at Kadima take over to finish what Sharon started, consider today's election as a fast forwarding to the end - forget Iran, forget Hamas - Kadima will fulfill the Islamist dream of a "world without Israel."

In a March 27 speech Kadima´s Education Minister, Meir Sheetrit declared, "We no longer have any ideologies, and that is our uniqueness. We look only towards the future," and further alienated Sharon's whole cloth creation - Kadima - from Israel's intellectual past, "We are no longer carrying the baggage of the legacy of Ze'ev Jabotinsky or Berl Katznelson on our backs," - as if Israel's founding myth was a terrible burden instead of its great strength.

Kadima not only negates Israel's right to existence - they do not even acknowledge the existence of their enemies.

"We are not worried about Hamas, and they do not pose a threat to us," Sheetrit said.

Perhaps Mr. Sheetrit should save such feeble entreaties for the Jewish settlers in the West Bank who will soon be uprooted and deprived of their homes and property - their life's work - as the Olmert government surrenders to Hamas without a fight, trading land upon the ridiculous assumption that the Palestinian Islamists will renounce their desire to destroy the Jewish state.

According to a Ynet exit poll the results are as follows:

    Kadima: 30 seats
    Labor: 21 seats
    Israel Our Home: 14 seats
    Shas: 12 seats
    Likud: 10 seats
    National Union: NRP: 9 seats
    United Torah Judaism: 6 seats
    Pensioners' party: 6 seats
    Meretz: 5 seats
    Arab parties: 7 seats

This is a much poorer showing for Kadima than expected and means that it will have to share power in order to govern. Most surprising was the extremely poor showing of Netanyahu's Likud, which was crushed and the strong showing for the right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu - "Israel Our Home" - party, which has a very significant following among immigrants from the former Soviet Union.

Associated Press Caught Once More Shading The News, This Time In Guantanamo Scalia Dispute

March 28, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The headline - Retired Generals Want Scalia Off Gitmo Case - says it all, giving the impression that suddenly out of the blue a group of America's defenders have stepped to the fore to stop the supposed travesty of Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia participating the determination of the fate of Salim Ahmed Hamdan, bin-Laden's personal chauffeur.

The word "generals" is mentioned four times until at the end of the piece AP clarified the fact that of the five who authored the letter to the court only two are generals.

In typical style AP is parsimonious with the truth throughout.

They of course do not mention that these same gentlemen are leftist activists and have been lead participants in the now cottage industry of thwarting the war on terror as the below "open letter" to the Senate Judiciary Committee opposing the nomination of Alberto Gonzales as Attorney General demonstrates.

Moreover it must be understood that these are simply Democrat friendly lawyers with an axe to grind:

  • David M. Brahms currently practices law in Carlsbad, California and sits on the board of directors of the Judge Advocates Association
  • Don Guter, Navy's Judge Advocate General from 2000 to 2002, currently Dean of Duquesne University Law School
  • Lee F. Gunn, former Inspector General of the Department of the Navy
  • John D. Hutson, Navy's Judge Advocate General from 1997 to 2000, currently President and Dean of the Franklin Pierce Law Center in Concord, New Hampshire
  • James Cullen, Reserve Judge Advocate General's Corps, currently practices law in New York City
  • Three of AP's five "generals" Brahms, Cullen and Hutson have called for another 911 style "independent commission" to investigate the supposed threat to civil liberties that questioning Islamist detainees at GTMO represents.

All five of AP's "generals" signed the so-called McCain anti-torture amendment, "Dear Senator McCain: We strongly support your proposed amendments to the Defense Department Authorization bill concerning detainee policy, including requiring all interrogations of detainees in DOD custody to conform to the U.S. Army?s Field Manual on Intelligence Interrogation (FM 34-52), and prohibiting the use of torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment by any U.S. government agency..."

Perhaps what is most striking about AP's leftist prattle is not that it is so apparent, but that it is so shoddily concealed

Tom Hanks And HBO - Tag Team Mormon Bashing in BIG LOVE

    By Thomas Fredericksen

March 27, 2006 - Hollywood, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Like many of my fellow Sopranos junkies, I was tuning in to see the return of my goombas after an almost two year absence, I also stuck around long enough to watch the new offering from Tom Hanks' production company "Playtone," the new HBO series "Big Love."

If you haven't seen the promos, it is a one hour dramatic series about a middle class hardware store owner with three wives, and a bunch of kids...how many?

    I lost count.

Set in the fun-loving state of Utah - surprise...they are Mormons and typical if one is to accept what HBO and Hanks are proffering.

Oh, it's not all happy bed-hopping, though there is a considerable amount of that.

No, this poor guy has problems like the rest of us.

The main character, played to perfection by Bill Paxton, finds he can't keep up sexually with the insatiable demands of all his women and resorts to stockpiling Viagra.

As if he doesn't have enough on his plate at home, he must also find time to deal with his old polygamist compound where his possibly arsenic wielding mother - part of his father's harem - may be trying to poison his father, played by a quirky Bruce Dern who is near death from said arsenic.

Nope, this isn't what we might call a traditional family...and a long jump from Ward, June and the Beav.

    Is Reza Taheri-azar A Takfiri?

    By Beila Rabinowitz

March 27, 2006 - Philadelphia, PA - PipeLineNews.org - At the end of his near murderous rampage on the University of North Carolina campus, Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar - head shaved, impeccably dressed and polite - called 911 on his cell phone, calmly surrendering to police:

"Yes, sir. I just hit several people with a vehicle," Taheri-azar said on the recording. "Right now, I'm standing, you can come and arrest me..." - Source Link

He later told authorities that he had been planning his attack for two years, while studying for his degree at the University of North Carolina - possibly having shared classrooms with some of his victims.

After his arrest, Taheri-azar smiled and told journalists he had "intended to kill people" and was, "...disappointed there were not more people around when he attacked." He also made a chilling admission, stating that he had specifically chosen a Jeep Cherokee as a weapon because "it could keep going even after if ran over something."

Taheri-azar's long term preparation, overall demeanor and sense of achievement after the attack are indications that he might well be an adherent of a little understood "mutant strain" of Salafi Islam known as Al wal Takfiri Hijra - Takfiri - whose interpretation of Islam is so strict that it is said they even tried to kill Osama bin-Laden and have attacked the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt for what they deemed "un-Islamic" practices.

The Takfiris permit themselves to violate the tenets of Islam in order to feign assimilation into the "infidel" culture, thus deflecting suspicion that they could be potential attackers and to facilitate their access to targets.

Lincoln Chafee, The Wrong Man For Rhode Island

March 27, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Thin-shouldered Rhode Island RINO Senator Lincoln Chafee is once again bucking his President, this time on a matter of vital national concern, in the midst of a protracted war against Islamist terror.

Having been quoted in the Providence Journal that he "would not rule out...censure," he was forced on March 16th to backtrack, staking out a new position that he does not support Russ Feingold's motion to censure the Mr. Bush over the National Security Agency's surveillance program of al-Qaeda.

Reading further in Chafee's statement he claims that what was perceived as support of the process Feingold is advocating was the result of a misinterpretation of his remarks:

"In a news article, the Providence Journal reporter chose to interpret the notion that I will not rule out the censure of any president in any number of hypothetical circumstances as an endorsement of the drastic censure resolution currently being offered in the Senate."

There is only one President at the moment and only one move to censure him, something Mr. Chafee stated he, "will not rule out."

Chafee further obfuscates saying, "I have never expressed support for it," as if such weasel words clarify his position.

"I have joined colleagues on both sides of the aisle in calling for a vigorous dialogue about the balance between civil liberties and national security. I believe that as the only bodies authorized to be briefed on the full range of the wiretapping program, the House and Senate Intelligence Committees must conduct the necessary oversight, reach a final conclusion and make recommendations. I stand by that."

Stand by what? That statement is more nuanced than an October 2004 Kerry policy paper on Iraq.

International Community United on Iran Policy, Rice Says - "We can't afford to waste time"

    By Sgt. Sara Wood, USA

March 27, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org via Multinational Force Press - The international community agrees that Iran cannot have nuclear capabilities that could lead to the development of a nuclear weapon, and the U.S. is working with other countries to make sure that doesn't happen, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday morning talk shows today. "Everybody takes very seriously Iran's intransigence and Iran's unwillingness to do what the international community has determined it should do," Rice said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "Iran cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon; that is the view of the international community, not just the U.S."

The U.S. and its partners are doing everything they can to send a strong signal to Iran that if it wishes to be part of the international community, it must give up its nuclear ambitions, Rice said. If the international community stays united, Iran will not be able to stand the kind of isolation that North Korea has faced, she said.

"The Iranians are defying the world's will, and the international community needs to speak, and speak with one voice," Rice said on "Fox News Sunday."

The U.S. has had some tactical differences with Russia about the best way to stop Iran's defiant actions, but they are working to develop the best approach, Rice said. The International Atomic Energy Agency must continue to work with Iran, because it has technical expertise, but the U. N. Security Council can lend weight to the proceedings, she said.

"We really do have a chance to solve this diplomatically," she told "Meet the Press." "But I would be the first to say that we can't afford to waste time."

Pro Life Group Debuts Ad Campaign Attacking, "racist philosophies of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger"

March 27, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - "Every day, Planned Parenthood undermines American values, and it does so with our tax money," said American Life League president Judie Brown. "Frankly, we're fed up. That's why we're beginning a new advertising campaign to educate Americans about what this organization does with our hard-earned dollars. When people find out the truth, we're convinced Planned Parenthood's tax funding will quickly dry up."

The first phase of the ad campaign consists of a series of full-page ads, beginning in today's edition of the Washington Times. The first ad is headlined, "Reason #72 to stop Planned Parenthood from getting over $265 million in your tax dollars: Racism." The ad outlines the racist philosophies of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, and points out that although African-Americans make up about 11 percent of the U.S. population, more than 30 percent of all abortions involve black babies.

Operation Scorpion - Sequential Search Of Villages In And Around Hawijah, Iraq - A Success, With Iraqi Troops Leading The Way

March 27, 2006 - Hawijah, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via Multinational Forces Press - Iraqi soldiers, with assistance from U.S. troops, detained 52 suspected insurgents March 24 during Operation Scorpion, a sequential cordon and search of eight villages in and around Hawijah, Iraq, that military officials said yesterday had ended.

During the second Iraqi-led operation in as many months, soldiers of the 2nd Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division, confirmed that 24 out of the 52 detainees were on their target list, built from their own intelligence gathering. The other detainees are being held for further questioning.

"This Iraqi army brigade has made tremendous progress in the five months we've been working with them," said U.S. Army Col. David Gray, commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, which assisted the Iraqis.

"In October, they were loosely organized and not very well trained. The success of Operation Scorpion, and their ability to conduct a complex mission in the Hawijah area without suffering or inflicting casualties, demonstrates their professionalism and improved level of discipline," he said.

Secret Iraqi Documents Prove Massive Russian Complicity With Saddam During Liberation Of Iraq

March 25, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - Complete text of the two translated documents in their entirety after these highlights:

"First: The Russian ambassador informed us on the evening of March 24, 2003 of the following..."

"...The Russian ambassador noted that two days ago he gave us [information] on American special forces units Delta and Papa [sic] based on information from Russian intelligence..."

"...the provision of facilities for the departure of Russian specialists working on projects belonging to our ministry without delay for the period March 5-8, with the last plane departing on March 9..."

"...During this meeting the ambassador presented the following information about the American military presence in the Gulf..."

"...Information Russia has obtained from its sources in the U.S. Central Command in Doha [Qatar] indicates that the Americans have concluded that the occupation of Iraqi cities is impossible. ..."

Two Declassified Iraqi Documents Show Intent To Disperse Incriminating Material

March 25, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - Declassified material continues to be released per the President's recent directive, and we continue to be teased by their content.

Document Request for 7 large 40 passenger trucks [June 3, 2002] to move prisoners to safe locations and a second document requesting that "in preparation for any foreign attack (God forbid) be prepared to disperse documents from headquarters to private residences in various geographic locations."

Document Movement of 448 Iraqi Prisoners details [March 14, 2003] Saddam's intent to move Kuwaiti prisoners into areas that would likely be struck by the initial wave in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This is entirely consitent with Saddam's previous cavalier use of prisoners as involuntary human shields.

What we find interesting about these documents is the stark contrast between Saddam's callous use of prisoners in the second directive but counseling the opposite treatment for "prisoners" in the first. In the unlikely case that he was actually referring ot the 448 Kuwaiti prisoners in the first instance 7 trucks of 40 passenger capacity would barely hold half the prisoners.

It seems pretty obvious then that the 7 trucks are being requested to move material with incriminating potential and that "prisoners" is a euphemism. This tactic is in line with the later mentioned documents marked for dispersal.

Rumsfeld Speech On Iraq - "See It Through To Completion...Weakness Is Provocative...Appeasement Is Dangerous"

    By Donna Miles

March 24, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - The only way to prevail in the war against violent extremists is "if we are in it all the way," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told Pentagon reporters today. "We can, we must and we will see it through to completion," he said.

Rumsfeld borrowed a quote from Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who, two days after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, acknowledged that all Americans were in World War II together. "We are in it all the way," Roosevelt said. "We must share together the bad news and the good news, the defeats and the victories, the changing fortunes of war."

Roosevelt's sentiment applies equally well today, as the United States confronts the threat of global terrorism, Rumsfeld said. It's not a question of whether the United States must face this threat, but how, he said, because terrorists have openly stated that their jihad against the United States won't end when the country leaves the Arabian Peninsula.

"The question of our time is whether we face this enemy on their terms or on our terms, on their territory or on our territory -- where they are on offense or where they are on defense," he said.

Operation Swarmer Ends With All Objectives Met

March 24, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Multinational Forces Press - Operation Swarmer, a combined operation involving Iraqi soldiers and police commandos and coalition forces wrapped up yesterday without any casualties and all of the tactical objectives met, Multinational Force Iraq officials announced today.

The mission began with the helicopter transport of about 1,500 Iraqi and coalition soldiers and Iraqi police commandos into a 10-by-10-square-mile area northeast of Samarra on March 16. The initial insertion aircraft and subsequent air security provided by the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade moved the force, made up of units from Iraq's 1st Commando Brigade, 1st Brigade, 4th Army Division, and the U.S. 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division.

Immigration Study - As Illegal Immigrants Enter Labor Market Native Born Exit

By Steven A. Camarota, Director Center For Immigration

March 24, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via CIS - Advocates of legalizing illegal aliens and increasing legal immigration argue that there are no Americans to fill low-wage jobs that require relatively little education. However, data collected by the Census Bureau show that, even prior to Hurricane Katrina, there were almost four million unemployed adult natives (age 18 to 64) with just a high school degree or less, and another 19 million not in the labor force. Perhaps most troubling, the share of these less-educated adult natives in the labor force has declined steadily since 2000.

  • Looking first at all workers shows that between March 2000 and March 2005 only 9 percent of the net increase in jobs for adults (18 to 64) went to natives. This is striking because natives accounted for 61 percent of the net increase in the overall size of the 18 to 64 year old population.
  • As for the less-educated, between March of 2000 and 2005 the number of adult immigrants (legal and illegal) with only a high school degree or less in the labor force increased by 1.6 million.
  • At the same time, unemployment among less-educated adult natives increased by nearly one million, and the number of natives who left the labor force altogether increased by 1.5 million. Persons not in the labor force are neither working nor looking for work.
  • In total, there are 11.6 million less-educated adult immigrants in the labor force, nearly half of whom are estimated to be illegal aliens.
  • Of perhaps greatest concern, the percentage of adult natives without a high school degree who are in the labor force fell from 59 to 56 percent between March 2000 and 2005, and for adult natives with only a high school degree participation in the labor force fell from 78 to 75 percent.
  • The Real Helen Thomas

March 23, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Though CBS still believes Helen Thomas is relevant enough to lead the evening edition of its March 21st broadcast:

"...on the CBS Evening News Jim Axelrod featured the far-left question from Hearst Newspapers columnist Helen Thomas at Tuesday morning's presidential press conference. Thomas blamed Bush for deaths and charged that he employed subterfuge to launch a war: "Your decision to invade Iraq has caused the deaths of thousands of Americans and Iraqis. Every reason given, publicly at least, has turned out not to be true. My question is: Why did you really want to go to war?" - Media Research Center 3/22/06

There is an agenda that drives the Hearst mini-chain's [12 newspapers including the redoubtable Albany Times Union, The Laredo Morning Times and of course its flagship the once queen of yellow journalism the San Francisco Chronicle] Thomas - aside from a perverse sense of self-importance.

Fact - Helen Thomas is an Islamist apologist, and that characterization has nothing to do with her Lebanese heritage.

In a 2004 speech presented at Virginia's Al-Hewar Center [available in its entirety at the end of this introduction] Thomas revealed herself to be a moonbat of the highest order.

Al-Hewar itself is a controversial assembly point for Wahhabists of all stripes.

    As the Al-Hewar website states:

"Over a period of two years ending in the summer of 1994, Al-Hewar Magazine invited a diverse group of Arabs and Arab-Americans in the Washington metropolitan area to hold regular discussions at the offices of the International Institute of Islamic Thought..."

The International Institute of Islamic Thought [IIIT] is a radical Islamist organization with ties to al-Qaeda.

While the association between Al-Hewar and IIT should be cause for concern to anyone entertaining discourse with them, it should be even more daunting for an American journalist.

Consider just two of Al-Hewar's speakers:

Bassem Khafagi, the former CAIR employee, pled guilty to making "false material statements on his nonimmigrant visa application on Nov. 8, 2000, in Kuwait City, Kuwait and (2) passing bad checks for thousands of dollars at two U.S. banks in early 2001. Khafagi faces up to a $250,000 fine on the visa fraud conviction and 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine for each of the two counts of bank fraud."- Daniel Pipes.

Khafagi was sentenced to 10 months in prison and deported to Egypt.

Al-Hewar has also hosted Edward Abboud, whose book "Invisible Enemy: Israel, Politics, Media, and American Culture," is widely held to be anti-Semitic in the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" mold - from the book, [Israel is] "beyond a doubt the most serious threat to U.S. democratic institutions, freedom, and society since the Civil War." Abboud claims that Israel "can control the outcome" of Washington policies, is in control of the U.S. media and goes on to say that it is "effectively in control" of the CIA.

What is probably most troubling about Thomas' speech is its critique of American society which in some ways is more extreme than recognized leftist loons such as Alexander Cockburn. Thomas' jaunty welcome to "fellow terrorists" three days before the third anniversary of America's worst terror event is disgustingly inappropriate as is her comparison of terrorist to freedom fighters, something that could have easily come from the lips of al-Qaeda theorist Ayman Al-Zawahiri.

General Peter Pace Confers with Saudi Leaders on Cooperation With U.S.

    By Jim Garamone

March 23, 2006 - Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - PipeLineNews.org via American Forces Press - The top U.S. general met with Saudi Arabian leaders here yesterday and discussed cooperation between the United States and the kingdom.

In his first official visit as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Gen. Peter Pace praised Saudi King Abdullah for his "open and candid" discussions.

Pace arrived here from Pakistan yesterday and met with Abdullah for more than an hour. He also met with Crown Prince Sultan, who also is minister of defense and aviation; Prince Khalid, assistant minister; and Chief of the General Staff Gen. Salih Al-Muhayya. "I told each of them that I have come to listen to them and to learn about ways that we can be a good partner to them to the benefit of both our countries," Pace said during an interview.

Pace said he spoke about opportunities for the two countries to train together in air, land and sea exercises. The Saudis also spoke about the U.S. foreign military sales program and equipment they are interested in buying.

President Bush Details "Plan For Victory" In West Virginia Speech

March 22, 2006 - Wheeling, West Virginia - PipeLineNews.org - Making his third public appearance in as many days, the President today made a forceful defense of his Iraq policy before a receptive audience of 2,100, many of whom are military families

Speaking at the Capitol Music Hall and following up on the momentum of Tuesday's press conference President Bush Passionately Defends War On Terror And Administration's Accomplishments In Press Conference which has been widely praised for his clarity and forthrightness, the President stressed that it was important to keep on the offensive.

In the town hall styled meeting, the President chided the Iraqis for the extended period of time it is taking to put in place a unity government, stating, "It's time...It's time to get a government in place."

He also underlined whose ultimate responsibility defending Iraq will be, "It's the Iraqis' fight," he told the audience, "These troops that we're training are going to have to stand up and defend their democracy."

Mr. Bush also harkened back to previous addresses where he laid out the overall logic of going into Iraq:

"Saddam was a state sponsor of terror...I saw a threat...my predecessors saw a threat...he [President Clinton] got the Congress to vote for a resolution that said we are for regime change...the world saw a threat, I went to the United Nations Security Council and on a 15 to nothing vote we passed resolution 1441 that said to Saddam Hussein disclose, disarm or face serious consequences...he [Saddam] made a choice....and I made my choice...and the world is better off without Saddam Hussein in power."

Knight Ridder & Contra Costa Times Team Up To Savage Bush Press Conference

March 22, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Consigned to page A12 in Knight Ridder's - marked for fire-sale - Contra Costa Times, this tawdry piece - "Bush Won't Pull Troops Out Of Iraq" - is just another indicator of left-wing media arrogance and faux reporting.

The headline is instructive, the handiwork of - hopefully soon to be departing - Contra Costa Times editor Chris Lopez's staff. Note how the headline drips with a sense of media pique at what it must deem the President's outrageous refusal to take the Fourth Estate's advice...to run in the face of Islamist terror.

The piece, nominally authored by William Douglas but bearing the unmistakable mark of the heavy hand of KR's legend in his own mind - Joe Galloway - is long on opinion and conjecture, but almost bereft of an account of what the President actually said, containing only two abbreviated quotes by Mr. Bush in a presentation that lasted nearly an hour and which spanned over 9,500 words.

Here We Go Again? - Dubai Acquisition Of Defense Contractor Doncaster Raises Stakes

By Stephanie Kirchgaessner in Washington and James Boxell in London

March 22, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org via Financial Times - Arab and US officials are growing nervous at the prospect of a second congressional uprising against the acquisition of American assets by a Middle Eastern-controlled company in the wake of the Dubai Ports World debacle.

A person familiar with the thinking of both the US and United Arab Emirates said officials were concerned that the pending investigation of Dubai International Capital's £700m ($1.2m) purchase of Doncasters, a privately-held British aerospace manufacturer that works on sensitive US weapons programmes, including the Joint Strike Fighter, could provoke a similar backlash and further damage the relationship between the two countries.

Although the proposed transaction has not yet drawn much attention in Congress, the first signs of unease emerged on Tuesday when John Barrow, a Democratic lawmaker, released a letter demanding a tour of Doncasters' Georgia facility.

    Document - The Moussaoui Indictment

March 22, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Given the currency of the Moussaoui case we thought our readers might like to have access to the DOJ's six count indictment [filed by Michael Chertoff, when he was still at DOJ], see above link for the html version.

President Bush Passionately Defends War On Terror And Administration's Accomplishments In Press Conference

March 21, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - In what was perhaps the President's finest performance since 911, Mr. Bush displayed in today's 57 minute press conference the confidence, grasp of factual matter and enthusiasm that is sometimes missing in his public persona.

Below are some initial highlights, followed by the complete transcript.

On Iran's aiding al-Qaeda in Iraq.

"A couple of months ago, I gave Zal, our ambassador in Iraq, permission to explain to the Iranians what we didn't like about their involvement in Iraq. I thought it was important for them to hear firsthand, other than through press accounts."

And regarding Iran's threatening Israel's destruction:

"The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That's a threat, a serious threat. It's a threat to world peace...I made it clear, and I'll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel," said Bush, who was apparently referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's call for the destruction of Israel."

Answering Fox News' Carl Cameron's question regarding Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold's move to censure the President.

"I think during these difficult times -- and they are difficult when we're at war -- the American people expect there to be a honest and open debate without needless partisanship. And that's how I view it. I did notice that nobody from the Democrat Party has actually stood up and called for getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program. You know, if that's what they believe, if people in the party believe that, then they ought to stand up and say it. They ought to stand up and say the tools we're using to protect the American people shouldn't be used. They ought to take their message to the people and say, vote for me, I promise we're not going to have a terrorist surveillance program. That's what they ought to be doing. That's part of what is an open and honest debate.

I did notice that, at one point in time, they didn't think the Patriot Act ought to be reauthorized -- "they" being at least the Minority Leader in the Senate. He openly said, as I understand -- I don't want to misquote him -- something along the lines that, "We killed the Patriot Act." And if that's what the party believes, they ought to go around the country saying we shouldn't give the people on the front line of protecting us the tools necessary to do so. That's a debate I think the country ought to have.

Moussaoui Obsessed with Jihad - "Your obligation, like any other Muslim, is to be ready for jihad"

March 21, 2006 - Alexandria, VA - PipeLineNews.org - Confessed al-Qaeda terror plotter Zacarias Moussaoui was portrayed today by his ex-roommate as being obsessed with jihad.

Hussein al-Attas' testifying by video in the penalty phase of the Moussaoui trial, claimed that the defendant believed, "Your obligation, like any other Muslim, is to be ready for jihad," adding that he felt that, "This is the only way for me to get to paradise."

Attas testified that he met Moussaoui in a Norman, Oklahoma mosque early in 2001 and became roommates a month before the September 11 attacks. Attas further stated that Moussaoui told him to travel to Pakistan to learn more about his religious obligations as a Muslim.

NBC's Couric Pushes Anti-American Line Via "Random Sampling"

March 21, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - America's largest organization detailing liberal bias in the media, the Media Research Center reveals that Monday's edition of the Today show delivered what co-host Katie Couric described as "a random sampling" of public views on Iraq, but NBC's "random sampling" featured just three people, with two of those characterizing the U.S. as warmongering or as guilty of committing terrorism.

A woman holding a holding protest sign, "We Are for Peace from the USA," declared: "There were no weapons of mass destruction. Too many people are dying daily around the world because of this lie!" In a second soundbite, she complained: "I'm so disappointed in our country at this time." A man on the street charged: "It's about America going and becoming terrorists themselves."

Associated Press Sees February's Steep Decrease In Wholesale Energy And Food Prices As A Negative

March 21, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In further evidence that the American economy is in extraordinarily good shape - and that the Bush tax cuts are expanding GDP while keeping core inflation low - the Department of Labor today indicated that wholesale prices fell 1.4% in February, due to the decreasing cost of energy and food.

This is the largest decrease in this key economic determinant of inflation in nearly 3 years.

Food prices decreased 2.7% in February also, the largest drop in nearly 4 years.

Undeterred, AP's "economics writer," Martin Crutsinger - towing the Democrat party-line, cast the steep wholesale price reduction in a negative light

Leadership Course Graduates New Class Of Iraqi NCOs Motivated By Patriotism

By Spc. George Welcome, 2nd BCT PAO, 101st Abn. Div.

March 21, 2006 - Mahhudiyah South, Iraq - PipeLineNews.org via Black Anthem Miliary News - Brig. Gen. Madhi, commander of the 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, shakes the hand of a graduate of the Primary Leadership Development Course. The course was developed to provide the Iraqi army with a strong Noncommissioned Officers Corps. The graduation was held March 9 at the Iraqi army compound at Mahmudiyah South.(U.S. Army photo by Spc. Welcome, 2nd BCT PAO, 101st Abn. Div.)

The soldiers of the Iraqi army are continually preparing themselves for the day when they will be fully responsible for the protection of their nation. Strong and capable leadership is an absolute necessity in achieving that goal.

Eleven soldiers from the 4th Brigade, 6th Iraqi Army Division, were honored during a ceremony recognizing their completion of the Primary Leadership Development Course March 9 at the Iraqi army compound in Mahmudiyah south. The program, which mirrors the U.S. Army?s own PLDC, was established to help train Iraqi soldiers to become leaders. For these men, the successful completion of the course represented the transition from basic soldiers to NCOs.

The Islamist Challenge to the U.S. Constitution

    By David Kennedy Houck

March 21, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLIneNews.org via Middle East Forum - First in Europe and now in the United States, Muslim groups have petitioned to establish enclaves in which they can uphold and enforce greater compliance to Islamic law. While the U.S. Constitution enshrines the right to religious freedom and the prohibition against a state religion, when it comes to the rights of religious enclaves to impose communal rules, the dividing line is more nebulous. Can U.S. enclaves, homeowner associations, and other groups enforce Islamic law?

Such questions are no longer theoretical. While Muslim organizations first established enclaves in Europe,[1] the trend is now crossing the Atlantic. Some Islamist community leaders in the United States are challenging the principles of assimilation and equality once central to the civil rights movement, seeking instead to live according to a separate but equal philosophy. The Gwynnoaks Muslim Residential Development group, for example, has established an informal enclave in Baltimore because, according to John Yahya Cason, director of the Islamic Education and Community Development Initiative, a Baltimore-based Muslim advocacy group, "there was no community in the U.S. that showed the totality of the essential components of Muslim social, economic, and political structure."[2]

Baltimore is not alone. In August 2004, a local planning commission in Little Rock, Arkansas, granted The Islamic Center for Human Excellence authorization to build an internal Islamic enclave to include a mosque, a school, and twenty-two homes.[3] While the imam, Aquil Hamidullah, says his goal is to create "a clean community, free of alcohol, drugs, and free of gangs,"[4] the implications for U.S. jurisprudence of this and other internal enclaves are greater: while the Little Rock enclave might prevent the sale of alcohol, can it punish possession and in what manner? Can it force all women, be they residents or visitors, to don Islamic hijab (headscarf)? Such enclaves raise the fundamental questions of when, how, and to what extent religious practice may supersede the U.S. Constitution.

Bush Speech In Cleveland One Of Resolve

March 20, 2006 - Cleveland, Ohio - PipeLineNews.org - As the third year of the war in Iraq concludes, President Bush finds himself an inhabitant of two worlds.

One in which Iraq continues to make slow but demonstrable progress towards some form of united governement in the midst of a brutal al-Qaeda/Saddamist campaign of terror and the other, a make believe place the old media has constructed from a playbook that was tattered even in the anti-Vietnam war movement's glory days.

Today Mr. Bush traveled to Cleveland, Ohio for a major address on the progress of the war, his recitation of the trials of the city of Tal Afar should serve as a methaphor for the larger issue of stabilizing Iraq in general.

    Read the complete speech Here.

    Highlights below:

"The central front on the war on terror is Iraq. And in the past few weeks, we've seen horrific images coming out of that country. We've seen a great house of worship -- the Golden Mosque of Samarra -- in ruins after a brutal terrorist attack...The enemies of a free Iraq attacked the Golden Mosque for a reason: They know they lack the military strength to challenge Iraqi and coalition forces in a direct battle, so they're trying to provoke a civil war."

"Others look at the violence they see each night on their television screens, and they wonder how I can remain so optimistic about the prospects of success in Iraq. They wonder what I see that they don't. So today I'd like to share a concrete example of progress in Iraq that most Americans do not see every day in their newspapers and on their television screens. I'm going to tell you the story of a northern Iraqi city called Tal Afar, which was once a key base of operations for al Qaeda and is today a free city that gives reason for hope for a free Iraq."

Knight Ridder's Deadwood Including Contra Costa Times Poised For Fire Sale - An Open Letter To The CC Times

March 20, 2006 - Contra Costa County, CA - Contra Costa Times Watch - Well it didn't take McClatchy very long to take out the garbage in the Knight Ridder/McClatchy sale, did it?

By garbage, we specifically refer to Chris Lopez' and Dan "Jack Daniels" Hatfield's little embarrassment, the Contra Costa Times.

In a period of about 10 years various KR lackeys including these two clowns have taken a nice regional newspaper and turned it into a left-wing harangue machine, thanks guys.

CC Times publisher Jack Armstrong is apparently clueless as the rest of the CC Times' management on the reasons for placing the paper on the blocks saying, ""the decision [to sell the Times] is not a reflection on us."

Sure Jack, sure...how stupid do you think the new ownership is and exactly who does this sale reflect on if not you and Frick and Frack, your editors?

McClatchy is wisely getting rid of the Times and another 11 newspapers, including the San Jose Mercury - can you say CIA Cocaine Maxine Waters Conspiracy, really fast? - because they are not poised for reasonable and profitable growth.

Americans Must Maintain Resolve to Win Long War, General Says

By Jim Garamone, American Forces Press Service

March 20, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Extremists cannot hope to match the United States and its coalition allies in battle, but that might not matter at all. Al Qaeda and like terrorist groups understand that they only have to win the battle for American resolve to be successful, a top military strategy official said. Americans are an impatient people, and that impatience will work against final victory in what many people are now calling "the Long War," Army Brig. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr., the Joint Staff's director of strategy for the global war on terrorism, said in an interview.

The Long War is more than just the battle in Iraq or Afghanistan, and calling the struggle the Long War does not mean that U.S. troops will be in those nations for a long time. Rather, is the term refers to the overall struggle against the ideology of extremism, the general explained.

Defeating an ideology is tough and will require time and resources to win, Caslen said. Defeating the appeal of fascism took almost 25 years. The appeal of this "ism" began soon after World War I ended and was not defeated until the Allies defeated the Nazis in 1945. Defeating the ideology of communism took most of the 20th century and the long-term resolve of the Cold War.

Harmony Documents Provide Historical Perspective For War On Terror

March 20, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - As the government moves to declassify and in some instances translate the hundreds of thousands of documents [code named the Harmony database] that have been discovered as a result of Coalition actions taken in the Iraqi and Afghani theaters of the war on terror they are being selectively released.

One of the locations that is involved in this project is the Combat Terrorism Center at West Point. The below link contains foundational documents relating to al-Qaeda, bin-Laden and Zawahiri sourced through the CTC at West Point - Link

The majority of the documents so far released pertaining to Iraq available at Here. This information is being processed by the US Army Foreign Military Studies Office. It consists mainly of media captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Though many of the documents have yet to be translated, a sampling of those that have are located below:

Link - Letter from Qusay Saddam Hussein directing the transfer of 448 Kuwaiti prisoners to essential Ministries, radio and television buildings, and Military Industrial Commissions to be used as human shields during the expected US attack on Iraq.

Link - Fedayeen Saddam received news of a rumor that 3,000 volunteers from Iraq and Saudi Arabia had traveled to Afghanistan to fight with the Mujahideen against the US. This letter is a request to investigate the rumor to determine whether it is true.

Link - Usage of special equipment [chemical and biological weapons] against foes of Saddam

Operation Swarmer Possibly Undertaken To Feret Out Links Between Iran And Iraq Terrorism

March 20, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Steve Schippert at ThreatsWatch is speculating that one of the motivations for the Coalition launching last weeks massive air operation near Samara, Iraq - Operation Swarmer - to uncover links to Iranian efforts to aid the al-Qaeda led Iraqi terror.

Iraqi advisort, Lt. Gen. Wafiq al-Samaraei stated that the area around Samara might very well house, "a bunch of strange criminals who came from outside the county [sic] and among them a bunch of Iraqi criminals who help them."

As ThreatsWatch notes, "American and British officials have long stated that Iran has maintained far-reaching tentacles into Iraq, injecting money, munitions, manpower and malicious intent.

Anti-Christian Haters [Muslim] From University of Central Florida Provide Perspective To "Cartoon" Controversy

March 17, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Though the hate-filled blog that UCF Muslim Student Association members participated in has been suddenly pulled, terror research websites fortunately archived its code.

On that site, bloggers engaged in the type of rhetoric that had it been done by Jews or Christians could very well have set off Muslim demonstrations on the Florida campus.

In one entry, juxtaposed the below image of Christ on the Cross, is a mocking anti-Christian diatribe:

"And you have to just wonder! I mean, I totally understand the need of Christian artists to depict their hero in the most flattering way possible - but really, does he need to have the chiseled six-pack? Seriously, what are the odds that Jesus Christ, Holy Savior of the World, Son of God (shirk!), had rock-hard abs? Was this because when he was giving his sermons he did so whilst doing sit-ups? Was he born with the rare Hard Abdomen Gene? Or does carpentry really do this to you? I would totally understand if he had a six-pack after the Crucifixion (with all that muscle stretching and such), but beforehand? And are those pecs I see on the above picture and some protruding forearm muscle? Was Jesus really this jacked?

It doesn't even end there: Look at his flowing locks, his perfectly trimmed beard, his meticulously manicured mustache. Even though he's in grueling pain, he could still win Mr. Universe 2006!"

The font of this knuckledragging intolerance is a Muslima student [an adherent of a religion which has an absolute zero-tolerance policy regarding criticism half as vitriolic directed towards itself] who variously identifies herself as "the pretty one next to the Jewish girl" [in an image] and who nonchalantly muses besides the unsettling picture to the right, "I'm thinking about joining the Iranian Woman Police. Like, can you get any more cooler than this? You also get free sub-machine guns!"

Certainly such immoderation might give young UCF Hillel students pause for concern as they engage in "inter-religious dialogue" with their associates in the MSA.

Radical Imam Dremali Runs From His Past, Avoids UCF Jihad By Da'wa Fest

March 17, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Since PipeLineNews.org Militant Islam Monitor and Joe Kaufman The Visiting Jihadist combined to call attention [University of Central Florida Slated To Become Cultural Jihad Hub and University Of Central Florida Funding Islamist Da'wa Event] to the University of Central Florida's - "Returning to Our Rabb" [Lord] - excursion into cultural jihad, both university officials and Da'wa program presenters have scrambled furiously to quell the mounting public outcry.

We are pleased to announce that Imam Dremali has been forced to withdraw from the event due to our public awareness campaign.

Dremali is currently ensconced in Des Moines Iowa - laying low - and is clearly unwilling to face the controversy that his presence at UCF would cause.

The Imam is an Egyptian by birth and fled to the United States because he was considered too radical even by the standards of his native Egypt.

Since arriving in the United States Dremali has been involved in a non-stop campaign of terror-friendly activities - for example, his previous mosque, the Islamic Center of Boca Raton recently saw the arrest of an al-Qaeda operative, Rafiq Sabir and several of the ICBR founders and trustees had links to Sami Al Arian. ICBR member Bassem Al Halabi, was implicated for exporting military equipment to Syria, and the mosque spokesman [a convert to Islam] fled to Saudi Arabia in 2003. The current spokesman, Dan McBride was arrested last year for tax fraud.

    Update - Operation Swarmer

March 17, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Operation Swarmer, a joint effort by U.S Coalition and Iraqi forces to deny the enemy sanctuary in Southern Salah Ad Din province continues.

On the progress of that effort, Coalition spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Barry Johnson stated to PipeLineNews, "Iraqi security forces and Coalition units continue to methodically search their 10-mile-by-10-mile objective area for terrorists and bases from which they operate.

Approximately 50 people have been detained so far, and tactical interviews of the detainees began immediately. Seventeen people have been released, and approximately 30 remain in custody for further interviews.

No casualties have been reported by Iraqi security forces or Coalition units.

Six caches have been discovered, and their contents are being inventoried. Initial reports are that the caches include mortar rounds and rockets of various calibers, bomb-making materials, land mines and rocket propelled grenades."

Operation Swarmer is the largest air assault to take place in Iraq since the commencement of Operation Iraqi Freedom and the area of engagement has come under increased scrutiny since the February 22 bombing of the al-Askari "Golden" Mosque - a holy site for the country's Shia population - in Samara.

Administration's National Security Strategy Anticipates Continued Need For Pre-emption

March 16, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - The following is the President's introduction to the National Security Strategy document. The entire text may be accessed Here

    My Fellow Americans,

America is at war. This is a wartime national security strategy required by the grave challenge we face - the rise of terrorism fueled by an aggressive ideology of hatred and murder, fully revealed to the American people on September 11, 2001. This strategy reflects our most solemn obligation: to protect the security of the American people.

America also has an unprecedented opportunity to lay the foundations for future peace. The ideals that have inspired our history - freedom, democracy, and human dignity - are increasingly inspiring individuals and nations throughout the world. And because free nations tend toward peace, the advance of liberty will make America more secure.

These inseparable priorities - fighting and winning the war on terror and promoting freedom as the alternative to tyranny and despair - have now guided American policy for more than 4 years.

We have kept on the offensive against terrorist networks, leaving our enemy weakened, but not yet defeated...

Largest Air Assault Since 2003 Launched Against Enemy Positions Near Samara, Iraq

March 16, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - Coalition forces today launched "Operation Swarmer" - the largest air assault to take place in the country since 2003 - in Salah Ad Din province, near the recent trouble spot of Samara.

Samara is the site of the February 22 bombing of the al-Askari Mosque, a holy site for the country's Shia population.

Dept of Defense sources provided the following:

"Iraqi Security Forces and their Coalition partners launched the largest air assault operation since Operation Iraqi Freedom I today in southern Salah Ad Din province to clear a suspected insurgent operating area northeast of Samarra.

Operation Swarmer began this morning with soldiers from the Iraqi Army's 1st Brigade, 4th Division, the 101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade conducting a combined air and ground assault to isolate the objective area.

Attack and assault aircraft provided aerial weapons support for the operation and also delivered troops from the Iraq Army's 4th Division, the Rakkasans from 1st and 3rd Battalions, 187th Infantry Regiment and the Hunters from 2nd Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment to multiple objectives. Forces from the 2nd Commando Brigade then completed a ground infiltration to secure numerous structures in the area...

Text Of Mohammed Taheri-azar's Letter Explaining Reasoning Behind The Jeep Jihad

    What Would Mohammed Drive?

March 16, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - The following is the text of a letter by Mohammed Taheri-azar to the Durham Herald Sun, explaining his actions on March 3 when he used a vehicle to attack 9 students from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Taheri-azar is being held without bail on nine counts of attempted first-degree murder, nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and nice counts of inflicting serious injury

As Militant Islam Monitor's Director Beila Rabinowitz points out, "The more Muslim groups try to practice damage control - the worse it gets. Reza Al Tahieri's letter to the newspaper of why he perpetrated his attack is polite, well reasoned, and to the point. He wrote that 'The Koran is my Constitution.'"

At a press conference in Carolina the Islamic Center of Raleigh and the Muslim American Society showed their radical Islamist face - it was reported that, "...They say the students were not involved in any type of religious warfare, but were simply innocent victims..."

Which simply put means that Taheri-azar's only mistake was that he targeted the wrong people."

In the name of Allah, the merciful the compassionate

    Dear Ms. Rupinta:

    I've included a visitor's application. I left a one page letter for the police in the bedroom of my apartment at 303 Smith Level Rd. A-34 but in brief;

I live with the holy Koran as my constitution for right and wrong and definition of injustice...

Bizarre Twist In Zacarias Moussaoui Trial

March 15, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - The Associated Press calls the prosecution in the Zacarias Moussaoui 911 trial hamstrung, and for once they seem to have captured the essence in a matter involving the war on terror.

The government team has been hamstrung because of the actions of Transportation Security Administration lawyer Carla Martin who violated ethical standards in the case - actually the Federal rules for conduct of such trials - having "improperly prepared seven witnesses from the Federal Aviation Administration for questions on cross-examination by sending them trial transcripts." - AP

As presiding judge Brinkema stated, "I don't think in the annals of criminal law there has ever been a case with this many significant problems."

Perhaps Ms. Martin can construct a defense based upon a trickle-down theory of near criminal stupidity - the TSA being headed by Norm Minetta, a dull-witted Democrat political hack of the lowest order and probably the worst cabinet officer to serve since Ron Brown headed Clinton's Commerce Department.

MUST READ, What The Media Isn't Telling You - Myths of Iraq

    By Ralph Peters

March 15, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org via Real Clear Poliics - During a recent visit to Baghdad, I saw an enormous failure. On the part of our media. The reality in the streets, day after day, bore little resemblance to the sensational claims of civil war and disaster in the headlines.

No one with first-hand experience of Iraq would claim the country's in rosy condition, but the situation on the ground is considerably more promising than the American public has been led to believe. Lurid exaggerations and instant myths obscure real, if difficult, progress.

I left Baghdad more optimistic than I was before this visit. While cynicism, political bias and the pressure of a 24/7 news cycle accelerate a race to the bottom in reporting, there are good reasons to be soberly hopeful about Iraq's future.

    [snip]

If anything surprised me in the streets of Baghdad, it was the surge in the popularity of U.S. troops among both Shias and Sunnis. In one slum, amid friendly adult waves, children and teenagers cheered a U.S. Army patrol as we passed. Instead of being viewed as occupiers, we're increasingly seen as impartial and well-intentioned.

Jericho Raid Was Inevitable Given Palestinian Breach Of Agreement

March 15, 2006 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLinenews.org - The IDF's successful capture of Ahmed Saadat and a number of his henchmen yesterday was used by Hamas gunmen as justification for a series of armed attacks and kidnappings directed at Western symbols in Gaza and the West Bank.

Ten journalists were kidnapped and EU and U.N. aid agency offices were shot-up and set on fire as part of the display of violence.

The majority of those kidnapped have been released though some apparently are still being held.

Not evident in much of the main stream coverage of the event is an explanation of why U.S. and British military observers were pulled from the Jericho jail where the terrorists were being held. The impression being left by that coverage is that the observers were pulled as part of a premeditated Israeli plan to storm the jail and capture Saadat.

    The Media & Iraqi Stringers

March 15, 2006 - Washington, DC - PipeLinenews.org via National Review - [Editor's note: anyone who has taken the time to learn how the war in the Iraq theater is being covered by the Western leftist media knows this dirty little secret, that the press for the most part cowers in the green zone while waiting for young Iraq men - stringers - to go out and gather video from the latest IED explosion. As this NR correspondent details below this process renders what you read and see in the media as having no relation to what is really happening on the ground in Iraq.]

"But the foreign media have become a destructive factor, extrapolating daily crises from minor incidents. Part of this is ignorance. Some of it is willful. None of it is helpful.

The dangerous nature of journalism in Iraq has created a new phenomenon, the all-powerful local stringer. Unwilling to stray too far from secure facilities and their bodyguards, reporters rely heavily on Iraqi assistance in gathering news. And Iraqi stringers, some of whom have their own political agendas, long ago figured out that Americans prefer bad news to good news. The Iraqi leg-men earn blood money for unbalanced, often-hysterical claims, while the Journalism 101 rule of seeking confirmation from a second source has been discarded in the pathetic race for headlines.

To enhance their own indispensability, Iraqi stringers exaggerate the danger to Western journalists (which is real enough, but need not paralyze a determined reporter). Dependence on the unverified reports of local hires has become the dirty secret of semi-celebrity journalism in Iraq as Western journalists succumb to a version of Stockholm Syndrome in which they convince themselves that their Iraqi sources and stringers are exceptions to every failing and foible in the Middle East. The mindset resembles the old colonialist conviction that, while other "boys" might lie and steal, our house-boy's a faithful servant.

The result is that we're being told what Iraqi stringers know they can sell and what distant editors crave, not what's actually happening."
