Peter King [R, NY] To Introduce Border Bill Ending "Catch and Release"

November 15, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The Committee on Homeland Security will meet in open session Wednesday November 16 to consider "The Border Security and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2005" H.R. 4312.

Chairman Peter T. King (R-NY) introduced the bipartisan bill to enhance security along America's borders and ensure the removal of aliens who attempt to enter the United States illegally.

Key provisions in the bill include: establishing operational control of all borders and ports through enhanced Border Patrol operations, physical barriers, and state-of-the-art technology; ending the "catch and release" practice along the southwest border; streamlining operations within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) border security agencies; and promoting both international and domestic policies that will deter further illegal entry into the United States.

Palestinians Taste Their Own Medicine

By Daniel Pipes

November 15, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Front Page Magazine - A suicide bombing in Hadera, Israel, on October 26 that killed five people inspired the usual Palestinian joy: some 3,000 people took to the streets in celebration, chanting Allahu Akbar, calling for more suicide attacks against Israelis, and congratulating the "martyr's" family on the success of the attack.

But Palestinians were uncharacteristically morose after three explosions went off on November 9, killing 57 persons and injuring hundreds, in Amman, Jordan. That's because, for the very first time, they found themselves the main victim of those same Islamist "martyrs"

The massacre at a wedding in the Radisson SAS hotel ballroom took the lives of 17 family members attending the nuptials of what the London Times called a Palestinian "golden couple, beloved of their prominent Palestinian families and friends." The bombing also killed four Palestinian Authority officials, notably Bashir Nafeh, head of military intelligence on the West Bank.

After two decades of doling out this horror against Israelis, some of whom were also attending festive events (a Passover dinner, a Bar Mitzvah), Palestinians, who form a majority of the Jordanian population, unexpectedly found themselves at the receiving end.

And, guess what: they did not like it....

The Howie and Arianna Show

By Cliff Kinkaid

November 15, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Accuracy In Media - What qualifies Arianna Stassinopoulos to comment on anything? As Arianna Huffington, she is a popular figure for Washington Post media reporter Howard Kurtz. Kurtz attributes a quote to "Arianna," as opposed to somebody with a first and last name. In return, she calls him "Howie."

Stassinopoulos still retains her married name, Huffington, even though she is divorced from her gay husband and oil-heir multimillionaire Michael Huffington. He left her for another man and she was left with the couple's two teenage daughters and a $7 million house in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. Her books include "The Female Woman," described as an analysis of "the changing roles of women." That certainly describes her. "She has reinvented herself countless times over the last 10 years," noted Sarah Kershaw of the New York Times.

Gun Grabber SF Supervisor Should Pay Legal Costs For Ill-Advised Handgun Confiscation Bill

November 14, 2005 - Bellvue, WA - PipeLineNews.org - The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) today suggested that San Francisco Supervisor Chris Daly, author of that city's ballot measure to ban guns, should pay for the city's defense of that proposition in court and spare the taxpayers that expense.

"Supervisor Daly cooked up this gun ban measure and now that it is being challenged in court, he ought to personally cover the legal bills," said SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb. "San Francisco taxpayers, many of them gun owners who will be adversely affected by this ban measure, should not have to pay for Daly's folly.

News From The Iraq Front

November 14, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Hello to all my fellow gunners, military buffs, veterans and interested guys. A couple of weekends ago I got to spend time with my son Jordan, who was on his first leave since returning from Iraq. He is well (a little thin), and already bored. He will be returning to Iraq for a second tour in early 06 and has already re-enlisted early for 4 more years. He loves the Marine Corps and is actually looking forward to returning to Iraq.

Jordan spent 7 months at Camp Blue Diamond in Ramadi. Aka: Fort Apache. He saw and did a lot and the following is what he told me about weapons, equipment, tactics and other miscellaneous info which may be of interest to you. Nothing is by any means classified. No politics here, just a Marine with a birds eye views opinions:

1) The M-16 rifle : Thumbs down. Chronic jamming problems with the talcum powder like sand over there. The sand is everywhere. Jordan says you feel filthy 2 minutes after coming out of the shower. The M-4 carbine version is more popular because its lighter and shorter, but it has jamming problems also. They like the ability to mount the various optical gunsights and weapons lights on the picattiny rails, but the weapon itself is not great in a desert environment. They all hate the 5.56mm (.223) round. Poor penetration on the cinderblock structure common over there and even torso hits cant be reliably counted on to put the enemy down. Fun fact: Random autopsies on dead insurgents shows a high level of opiate use.

Catholic Activists Urge US Bishops To Enforce Church Doctrine On Abortion

November, 14, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - American Life League has published an ad in today's Washington Times that urges all Catholic bishops to enforce canon law and rebuke those individuals who publicly support the heinous act of abortion. ``Surgical abortion in the United States has claimed more than 46 million victims to date. It is up to the shepherds of the Catholic Church to do all they can to prevent this atrocity from taking even more lives,'' said Judie Brown, president of American Life League. ``As the bishops meet for their fall conference, we pray that they will discuss the enormous scandal caused by pro-abortion Catholics and resolve to put an end to this problem by enforcing the laws of the Church.''

Today's Washington Times ad is being run on the opening day of this fall's meeting of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington, D.C. ``The conference agenda includes a statement presenting Catholic teaching on the death penalty; but we are saddened to note the absence of any scheduled discussion of abortion,'' said Brown. ``While the bishops cannot change the laws that permit abortion on demand, they can certainly address the damage done by those Catholics who publicly support the killing of innocent children.''

Domestic Threats to Iranian Stability: Khuzistan and Baluchistan

By Michael Rubin, Middle East Forum

November 14, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via MEF - Iran is more an empire than a nation. While Persian (Farsi) is the official language, half of all Iranians speak a different language at home.1 The languages and dialects spoken along the southern shore of the Caspian Sea continue to engross linguists and anthropologists. The minority population is huge. More Azeris live in Iran, for example, than in independent Azerbaijan.2 Both Iranian Azerbaijan and Kurdistan have a history of separatism, the latter sparked not only by ethnic discrimination, but also by anti-Sunni religious oppression.

Azeris and Kurds are not alone in exerting regional identities and, on occasion, pursuing separatism. Iranian history is replete with struggles between the center and periphery. In the mid-nineteenth century, Zill as-Sultan, half-brother of the Shah, powerful governor of Isfahan and a number of other Iranian provinces, toyed with the idea of declaring southern Iran to be independent of Tehran. In the decades that followed, tribal sheikhs along the Gulf of Oman refused to remit taxes to Tehran and told European sailors that they were independent of Iran's rule, a claim reflected on maps of the period. In times of chaos, separatism accelerates. In the years following World War I, famine and recession struck Iran. Tehran ruled in name only. In 1920, Mirza Kuchek Khan, a Robin Hood-like figure from the jungles of Gilan, declared a separate Soviet Socialist Republic of Iran along the southwestern shores of the Caspian Sea. Reza Khan, who would declare himself Shah in 1925, gained his popularity by crushing rebellions in Azerbaijan, Gilan, Kurdistan, Khuzistan, and among the southern Iranian tribes. Even detractors of his rule and that of his son, Muhammad Reza Shah (ousted during the 1979 Islamic Revolution), credit Reza Khan for reunifying the country.

While the forces which drive Iranian separatism might be partly internal, in almost every serious case, regional and ethnic separatists in Iran have benefited from foreign support, be it British, Russian, or Ottoman. As a result, many Iranians conflate demands for federalism or ethnic rights with foreign conspiracy.

Veteran's Day San Jose, CA - A Photo Essay

November 12, 2005 - San Jose, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Patriotism is alive and well in California, despite assertions to the contrary.

56 Die in Triple Suicide Bombings: Radical Islamic Cleric Abu Hamza Still Preaching Hate From Prison

By Jeremy Reynalds

November 14, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In an apparent response to Jordanians who took to the streets to call for its leader to "burn in hell," al-Qaida in Iraq attempted Thursday to justify the triple suicide bombings that killed 56 people, mostly Arabs.

The Associated Press (AP) reported Link that earlier Thursday, the group posted a Web statement Link claiming responsibility for Wednesday's suicide bombing attacks. Then a second al-Qaida statement appeared on the Internet "to explain for Muslims part of the reason holy warriors targeted these dens." That statement appeared after Arab-wide expressions of outrage.

"Let all know that we have struck only after becoming confident that they are centers for launching war on Islam and support the crusaders' presence in Iraq and the Arab peninsula and the presence of the Jews on the land of Palestine," the AP reported the group said.

Under Blair Plan, Brits turn Security Decisions over to Islamists

By Beila Rabinowitz, Director Wahhabi Watch & Militant Islam Monitor

November 11, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews - In another case of multicultural diversity run amok, the UK government has funded a consortium of radical Muslims to act as a "police and security working group."

This task force has authored a controversial statement ripping Britain's anti-terror laws as being excessive and specifically objecting to new prohibitions against "incitement to violence," claiming that this would hamper Muslim free speech.

They expressed concern that their member's support of suicide bombers would be mischaracterized and criminalized, "creating a criminal offence of glorifying terrorism could stifle legitimate support for self-determination struggles around the world."

Democracts - Stuck Between Obstructionism and no Agenda

November 11, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - ``Instead of providing some glimpse of what it is that the Democrat Party stands for, today Democrats are once again showing their unity by not standing for anything. Celebrating partisanship without proposing a platform is in itself puzzling, but standing in the way of solutions for the American people without offering an alternative is negligent. Americans want answers, not partisan pep rallies and consummate campaigning.'' -Tracey Schmitt, RNC Press Secretary

Democrats Punt On Ideas; Hold Unity Rally In Place Of Scheduled 'Positive Agenda':

``National Democratic Party Leaders Have Decided To Punt On Rolling Out Their 2006 Agenda Until Next Year, And Will In Part Fill The Time Slot With A Unity Rally This Thursday To Highlight Fractures In The Republican Camp And Show Why Their Party Should Be Back In Charge.'' (Erin P. Billings, ``Democratic Agenda Off For 2005,'' Roll Call, 11/8/05)

Ted Kennedy and Harry Reid Doing the Bidding of MoveOn/Soros as they Smear Judge Alito

November 11, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - ``The latest attempts by Democrats to smear Judge Alito are nothing short of outrageous. Working with left-wing special interest groups, Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy know they can't argue Judge Alito's qualifications, know they can't argue the hearing schedule, and are afraid to have an honest debate on the proper role of the judiciary in America today. As two of America's leading legal experts have pointed out, these desperate attacks are nothing but a red herring,'' said Ken Mehlman, Republican National Committee chairman.

Earlier This Month, (Alliance For Justice's Nan) Aron Proclaimed, ``You Name It, We'll Do It'' To Oppose Alito. (Jim Drinkard, Judy Keen and Kathy Kiely, ``Bush Nominates Alito For Supreme Court,'' USA Today, 11/1/05)

Nan Aron And Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) Have Teamed Up To Oppose Judge Samuel Alito:

``In Ted Kennedy's Senate Office -- Where No Lobbying Is Needed -- (Alliance For Justice's Nan) Aron, Lobbyist Richard Woodruff And Rosenthal Sit Down With An Aide To See How The Alliance Can Help.'' (Marcia Davis, ``Her Idea of Justice: Absolutely Not Alito,'' The Washington Post, 11/9/05)

Constitutional Rights Group Cites Poll Showing Growing Support For Right to Bear

November 11, 2005 - Bellvue, WA - PipeLineNews.org - A Gallup poll showing the greatest decline of public confidence in law enforcement in ten years largely explains why a growing number of Americans are arming themselves for protection against criminals, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) said today.

Gallup's annual Crime Poll was conducted in mid-October. Gallup randomly contacted 1,012 adults across the country. The results revealed that confidence in the ability of police to protect people from violent crime has slipped from 61 percent last year to 53 percent this year.

List of Witnesses Claiming Plame's CIA Connection was "Widely Known" Continues to Grow

November 9, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - What do General Paul Vallely, former CIA officer Wayne Simmons, Andrea Mitchell, Robert Novak, National Review's Cliff May and others have in common?

First, all of them have first hand knowledge that Valerie Plame/Wilson's identity as a CIA employee was commonly known in DC, especially among the socially prominent movers and shakers who frequented State Department parties and similar functions.

Second, none of them were contacted by the Democrat's prosecutor of choice, Patrick Fitzgerald.

Islamists Running for Cover on Religious Aspect of French Muslim Riots

November 9, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via MEMRI - [Headline, "The Riots Are the Result of Racism and Discrimination and Are Justified"] - In an article titled "The Revolution of the Rabble" in the London Arabic daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat, Al-Arabiyya TV director Abd Al-Rahman Al-Rashed wrote: "Perhaps they are thieves, rabble, and anarchists, but they have a [just] cause, and there is no choice but to listen to it and deal with it... This is a protest against the bad situation from which a large group of people thinks it suffers. It doesn't matter whether the [French interior] minister calls them names like 'scum' and 'rabble.' These insults and curses will not solve the crisis that will recur in the future, even if it calms down for some time...

[Headline, "The Politicians of Paris Can No Longer Hide the Country's Ugly Face of Racist Discrimination"] -The conservative Iranian daily Jomhouri-ye Eslami wrote in an editorial: "In addition to the historical claims to being defenders of human rights that the French have engraved on their brows, and in addition to the medal of pride they have awarded themselves for implementing democracy and freedom, the French politicians have tried to install their name at the forefront of the defenders of human rights in the world, and to [have France] renowned as the cultural center of Europe and of the world...

[Headline, Tareq Ramadan: "The Unity of France and the Republic is Just a Myth"] - The European Islamic intellectual Tareq Ramadan warned about mixing up religion in the riots: "In what is happening today [in France], there are clearly groups interested solely in destruction and arbitrary violence. But that is not all there is to it. There are [other] things underlying this wave of violence. The notion that the religious motive [is responsible] has taken hold, but we are losing sight of the socio-economic motive which is destroying France by creating two isolated areas: the suburbs, on the one hand, and the affluent and middle-class areas, [on the other hand]."

Reflections on the Revolution in France

By Dr. Daniel Pipes

November 8, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - The rioting by Muslim youth that began October 27 in France to calls of "Allahu Akbar" may be a turning point in European history.

What started in Clichy-sous-Bois, on the outskirts of Paris, by its 11th night had spread to 300 French cities and towns, as well as to Belgium and Germany. The violence, which has already been called some evocative names - intifada, jihad, guerilla war, insurrection, rebellion, and civil war - prompts several reflections.

End of an era: The time of cultural innocence and political naïveté, when the French could blunder without seeing or feeling the consequences, is drawing to a close. As in other European countries (notably Denmark and Spain), a bundle of related issues, all touching on the Muslim presence, has now moved to the top of the policy agenda in France, where it likely will remain for decades.

These issues include a decline of Christian faith and the attendant demographic collapse; a cradle-to-grave welfare system that lures immigrants even as it saps long-term economic viability; an alienation from historic customs in favor of lifestyle experimentation and vapid multiculturalism; an inability to control borders or assimilate immigrants; a pattern of criminality that finds European cities far more violent than American ones, and a surge in Islam and radical Islam.

Use Enforcement of Immigration Laws to Ease Situation

By Steven A. Camarota, Directior Center for Immigration Studies

November 8, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - That America has an illegal-immigration problem is not in question. There are an estimated 10 million to 12 million illegal aliens in the country, a number estimated to grow by more than 400,000 a year. To deal with the problem some advocate a mass amnesty coupled with increased legal immigration, while others want mass deportations. But there is a third way: attrition through enforcement.

Mass roundups of millions is neither politically likely or practical. Legalization mocks legal immigrants and will spur more illegal immigration. Besides, we've already tried it. In the 1980s, 2.7 million illegal aliens were legalized. Legal immigration has doubled since the 1980s, but we have three times as many illegals.

Legalization also does not solve most of the problems associated with illegal immigration. The poorest and least educated American workers would still face job competition from millions of legalized illegal aliens. Letting illegals stay only makes sense if you think the poor are overpaid.

The Bush Policy in Iraq Is Working

By Roger Aronoff

November 8, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Accuracy In Media - Though it lasted only one day, it was important to see former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein on trial. While some groups complained about the trial, those doing the judging or the possibility of capital punishment, it should have been recognized as one more milestone in a long road to transforming the Middle East. It will show the rest of the world what happens to brutal dictators. 2005 may yet prove to be one of the more remarkable years in the history of that region, and the world.

The past year has brought us democratic revolutions in parts of the world where it seemed most improbable. There's still a long way to go, but the benchmarks are everywhere. Democratic revolutions have occurred in Ukraine, Georgia and Lebanon. Elections have been held in Egypt, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Iraq. Pressure is mounting on countries like Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iran to begin their own democratic transformations. And these are not happening in a vacuum. They are happening because the U.S. and its allies are staying the course in Iraq.

Using Community Health as a Pretext for Social Engineering

By Camille Giglio, Director California Right To Life Committee

November 8, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Recently I participated in a panel discussion on CA Prop 73 [parental notification on minors seeking abortions] with two other pro-life people and three pro-abort women - a young woman from Planned Parenthood, a much older woman speaking for N.O.W. and a third, young, eager and aggressive woman representing an organization called Bay Area Community Health Education [BACHE].

Afterwards, I couldn't get the title "community health" out of my mind.

What is the meaning of the term "community health," is it different than individual health?

I looked up BACHE online and discovered that they were sponsored by the ACLU, Planned Parenthood and Clergy for Responsible Choice. They apparently have no web page but can be reached at the email address - bachemtdiablo@comcast.net.

Their mission statement is:

"[to] promote teaching of comprehensive, medically accurate, age appropriate, bias free, sex education in the Public Schools."

After Two Weeks, Europe's Muslim Revolt Forces U.S. Media to Take Note

The Unreported European Muslim Insurrection

November 5, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - As if on cue, the first anniversary of the assassination of Dutch film maker Theo Van Gogh has been greeted in Europe with an unprecedented and explosive display of Muslim hatred.

Actually this coordinated violence qualifies as an insurrection.

It is taking place in over twenty suburbs of Paris [most affected are Clichy-sous-Bois, Aulnay-sous-Bois, Sal-d'-Oise, Seine-Marne, Yvelines and the cities of Dijon, Rouen and Marseilles] where rioting has continued unabated for over a week, in Denmark where firemen in the city of Århus have had to be accompanied by police as they attempt to deal with fires set by young Muslims and in the Netherlands where already fragile relations between native Dutch society and the country's North African Muslim population are also on the verge of conflagration over the simple matter of a search of two suspicious [wearing long robes, nervously fidgeting with their back-packs] immigrant Muslim youths.

Although over 500 automobiles were torched on Thursday evening, this is not merely random violence directed at inanimate objects, on Thursday evening a disabled 56 year-old woman riding a bus in the North Paris suburb of Sevren was doused with benzene by rioters and set on fire as if the location was Fallujah and not central Europe. She has been hospitalized in grave condition.

Few casual observers stateside are aware of any of the salient facts of this uprising because the European and U.S. news organizations are in full multicultural denial and actively seeking to suppress the story.

Liar Joe Wilson Outed His Own Wife Claims Fox Analyst Vallely

November 7, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Fox News contributor Major General Paul Vallely has charged Joseph Wilson with outing his own wife during conversations over a year before Robert Novak's July 12, 2003 column which identified Plame as "an Agency operative on weapons of mass destruction."

Interviewed on the November 3, 2005 edition of ABC's John Batchelor show, Vallely asserted that he had met and discussed the status of Plame with Wilson in Fox News' "green room" before the two were scheduled to appear as guest commentators.

In an interview with World Net Daily, Vallely states of Wilson:

"He was a total self promoter...I don't know if it was out of insecurity, to make him feel important, but he's created so much turmoil, he needs to be investigated and put under oath."

Vallely went on to claim that according to friends of his in the CIA Wilson would often introduce his wife at cocktail parties as a CIA operative.

Wilson, through his attorney Christopher Wolf, partner at Proskauer Rose LLP has demanded that both Vallely and WND retract their statements.

...percolating...

Halfway to Oblivion

November 7, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a recent column, William Kristol advised the president to "fight back" while asking the very real question "do they enjoy being punching bags at the White House?"

Now with Mr. Kristol's new found visibility at the WH we might hope that his advice would at least be considered but we here at PLN have pretty much given up on this bunch ever having whatever it is they are lacking to take Kristol's advice on this matter. Though we have railed about the GOP's unwillingness to defend itself since this administration's inception using everything in our arsenal including satire, for example Mike Tyson, Senate Majority Leader, nothing positive ever seems to happen.

Why we find ourselves at this point in the George Bush presidency - exactly a year after a smashing national victory - trying to pump-up the most powerful man in the world - is rather puzzling.

Part of the problem is that Mr. Bush's director of communications - Dan Bartlett - is simply not up to the job, not by a long shot - but then neither was Karen Hughes whom Bartlett replaced after Hughes "retired" back to family in Texas only to then move over to the Department of State where she is currently clueless and manhandling PR there. Bush's media strategy has been long on a powder-puff, finesse style of defense and MIA on Clinton's "let's hire Terry Lenzner and crush the son-of-a-bitch" smash-mouth offense.

PR for Al-Jazeera International

By Cliff Kinkaid

November 7, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org via Accuracy In Media - It's been labeled the terrorist channel because of its habit of airing Al-Qaeda videos. One of its correspondents was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for being an agent of Al-Qaeda, and by now you've probably heard that Al-Jazeera International is planning to launch in the U.S. next year.

But you may not know much about the public relations company behind the move. The PR firm of Brown Lloyd James (BLJ) has 14 people working on the account, trying to convince the American people there is nothing to fear from Al-Jazeera International. It's the same firm that brags about conducting the successful campaign on behalf of Communist China's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games. Its main spokesman on the Al-Jazeera account is former Clinton Administration official Mike Holtzman.

PR Week quotes Holtzman as saying that the firm, in order to prepare the public for Al-Jazeera International, might hold screenings of "Control Room," a documentary about "the inner workings of Al-Jazeera." Holtzman was quoted as saying, "The channel must establish its identity quickly because there are complex feelings toward the Arabic channel." That's an understatement. It's been labeled the terrorist channel because of its habit of airing Al-Qaeda videos. One of its correspondents was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for being an agent of Al-Qaeda.

Revelations, Protest Letter Cast Doubts on PBS' 'Breaking the Silence'

November 7, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Following damaging revelations about the recent PBS program Breaking the Silence, 20 family organizations, psychologists, authors, and scientists including The American Coalition for Fathers and Children have sent a letter of protest to PBS president Pat Mitchell. The letter analyzes the program's key claims and concludes the statements are misleading or false.

The letter comes in the wake of embarrassing documents about key figures in the show and thousands of viewer complaints. As a result, the Public Broadcasting Service has begun to backpedal on its support of Breaking the Silence. The program, which probes the treatment of abused children by divorce courts, has been criticized by the American Psychological Association as incorrect and inaccurate.

"We appeal to PBS to seriously reconsider whether it is appropriate to continue to air this one-sided film without proper balance or opposing viewpoints," writes Stephen Baskerville, PhD, president of the American Coalition for Fathers and Children.

Tom [The Hammer] DeLay's Remarks At Heritage Foundation - "It's time for Republicans to be Republicans again."

November 3, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Thank you very much. As we gather today, there are observers out there working on their first draft of the political obituary of conservative governance. Many - particularly the more partisan elements of the Democrat Party - see an opportunity for liberals to satisfy their obsessive desire to take control of a federal government whose power they have sought to expand and whose largesse they hope to feed off of.

However, as we gather today, the opportunity to drive change and enact reform lies with the very Republican congressional majority the American people have returned to Washington for six consecutive elections. The challenges now facing our nation can only be met by a bold and deliverable legislative agenda - an agenda that will redesign government, reform broken programs, and provide accountable, competent leadership for the American people.

The first component of this agenda - the one most acutely needed to set a new tone of accountability and action in Washington - will reform the federal budget. Our effort on this front will not only provide the nation immediate fiscal relief, but also institute permanent reforms of the way our government spends money and solves problems.

Our strategy, crafted 10 months ago as part of a comprehensive legislative plan for America, was:

  • to reform the Congressional appropriations process to make it more accountable and transparent;

  • to pass disciplined budgets that restrain spending and cut the deficit;

  • to redesign government according to Republican principles so as to improve service, save money, and renew our commitment to American taxpayers.

  • U.S. Copt Leader Demands Congress Confront Islamic Campaign of Hate Against Egyptian Christians

November 2, 2005 - Washington, DC - PipeLineNews.org - Open Letter To Congress...On behalf of the Coptic-American community, I write to request your immediate action helping quell recent escalations in mob violence and terrorism against the Coptic Christians of Alexandria, Egypt. We ask that you, as a U.S. lawmaker who supports human rights, contact the Egyptian embassy and government to express your concern over the recent rash of mob violence targeting Alexandria's Coptic community.

As you may know, the Copts - Egypt's indigenous, pre-Arab Christians - have suffered from recent escalations in militant Islamist violence, much of which has been underreported and glossed over by the Egyptian government. As of October 21, 2005, a mob of over 10,000 militants armed with explosives has surrounded the St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Muharrem Bey Street, Alexandria. The mob violence currently underway in Alexandria is only the latest in a string of attacks, including this week's stabbing of a Coptic nun by an extremist student.

Although Coptic-targeted hate crimes such as arson, kidnapping, rape, forced conversion, and torture have long plagued the Egyptian Coptic minority, anti-Coptic sentiment has increased amongst fanatical extremists, prompting an exponential rise in violence in the past few months.

Racist Lefty Blacks Attack Michael Steele In Heated Maryland Senate Contest

    By S.A. Miller

November 2, 2005 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - via the Washington Times - Black Democratic leaders in Maryland say that racially tinged attacks against Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele in his bid for the U.S. Senate are fair because he is a conservative Republican.

Such attacks against the first black man to win a statewide election in Maryland include pelting him with Oreo cookies during a campaign appearance, calling him an "Uncle Tom" and depicting him as a black-faced minstrel on a liberal Web log.

Operatives for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) also obtained a copy of his credit report -- the only Republican candidate so targeted.
