U.S. Ambassador To Egypt Warns Against Growing Ties With Iran

April 2, 2012 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The Muslim Brotherhood's nomination of hard-line Khalit al-Shater to run in the upcoming Egyptian presidential election arrived at a bad time tactically, for the organization, in that news of an al-Shater candidacy was accompanied by a recent poll which shows a plurality of Egyptians no longer wish to have the U.S. provide economic aid and would prefer to receive assistance from the Islamist Turkish government, or worse, Iran's Mullocracy.

Shater is a longtime financier of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood and was jailed on various occasions by now deposed president Mubarak, who is likely never to see the outside of a prison cell again, unless of course he is executed for "crimes against the Egyptian people."

For some reason this juxtaposition of a populace increasingly seeking normalized relations between the country and Iran with the possibility of a Muslim Brotherhood dominated Egyptian presidency caught the attention of Ann Patterson, U.S. ambassador to the country who stated, "Washington expresses its concern about the Egyptian Islamic movements' relations with Tehran..." [source, Fars News Agency, http://english.farsnews.com/newstext.php?nn=9101140042]

Perhaps Ms. Patterson should consult her boss, Mrs. Clinton for further clarification because she [and of course the administration] insists that aid to Egypt [actually aid to the Muslim Brotherhood for all practical purposes] be maintained at $1.5 billion a year.

Once again we find Team Obama talking out of both sides of its mouth, to the detriment of U.S. national security interests.
