February 21, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - A new study from the University of Illinois estimates that the world has more than 702 million hectares of marginal land suitable for growing biofuels. The researchers assessed land around the world based on its soil quality, slope, and regional climate. They added degraded or low-quality cropland but ruled out any good cropland, pasture, or forests; they also assumed no irrigation. They came up with the surprising total 2.7 million sq. miles of marginal land that could be available for switchgrass or other biofuel crops.
But the Illinois team didn't, apparently, factor in a 2010 Stanford University study that found plowing new cropland anywhere in the world would sharply increase the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Plowing would release massive amounts of soil carbon -mostly as nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas 300 times as powerful as CO2. The Stanford conclusion was that the 6.6 million square miles of lands not plowed because of the higher yields from the Green Revolution prevented the release of greenhouse gases equal to one-third of all the industrial gases emitted worldwide since 1850!

But anyone trying to ban the drugs would be tarred, feathered and run out of town. And rightly so.
The drugs' benefits vastly outweigh their risks. They save lives. We need to use chemo drugs carefully, but we need to use them.
The same commonsense reasoning should apply to the Third World equivalent of chemotherapy drugs: DDT and other insecticides to combat malaria. Up to half a billion people are infected annually by this vicious disease, nearly a million die, countless survivors are left with permanent brain damage, and 90% of this carnage is in sub-Saharan Africa, the most impoverished region on Earth.
February 19, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a Friday sermon delivered by Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi, perhaps the leading current intellectual force behind the Muslim Brotherhood, the imam delivered a blistering diatribe to an estimated crowd of 1M gathered at Tahrir Square, Cairo, urging war with Israel and conquest of Jerusalem.
In a partial translation by the Middle East Media Research Center MEMRI "Al-Qaradhawi asked the Egyptian army to open wide the Rafah crossing and to pray for the re-conquest of Jerusalem by the Muslims, so that he and the Muslims could pray in security at Al-Aqsa Mosque. This part of his sermon was cheered and applauded by the crowd...."
It was the first time since 1981, the year in which Anwar Sadat was assassinated by elements of the Brotherhood, that Qaradawi was allowed to conduct such a service.
February 19, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Faced with no alternative and caught in a bind between rhetoric and reality, on Friday, UN Ambassador Rice reluctantly cast Team Obama's first veto in the Security Council, killing a resolution, signed on to by the council's 14 other members, to condemn Israel's so-called "settlements" - actually apartments in Jerusalem, Israel's capital city.
U.S. domestic response has been varied, with liberals using the occasion to dissemble, arguing that this action was the ultimate proof of the president's commitment to Israel.
Conservatives however had a different take, well expressed by Jennifer Rubin in her WashPost column, Right Turn, condemning the action, "...The U.S. did not merely exercise a veto, it issued a statement that was unprecedented in its one-sidedness and harshness..." Rice's petulant response, forced to cast this vote despite the administration's already obvious Muslim tilt, was really more than harsh and one-sided. It was a blanket condemnation of the Jewish state accompanied by a level of historical revisionism shocking even by this administration's standards.
In a single carefully crafted sentence dripping with retribution, "For more than four decades Israel's settlement activities have undermined Israel's security and eroded hopes of peace and security in the region," the United States joined in spirit with "...over 120 of the UN's 192 Member States," including the UK, France and Germany. February 18, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On Tuesday, in another blow to what remains of freedom of thought in Europe, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff was fined 480 Euros in an Austrian court for her criticism and characterization of Islam.
"Tomorrow morning, Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff will stand trial in Vienna, Austria, accused of violating Europe's onerous "hate speech," thought control statutes.
Sabaditsch-Wolff has been accused of fomenting hatred against the Continent's Muslims, primarily by quoting verbatim from the Qur'an. If convicted she could face a stiff fine as well as prison time.
The trial has caused quite a stir among conservative defenders of free speech but has garnered almost no coverage from a complicit Western press.
As noted wag Pat Condell observed regarding this spectacle, "Europe today is a shining example of how to piss in your own drinking water..."
This is a monstrous moment in European jurisprudence. If the ruling is allowed to stand, Austria will have made the conscious effort to enforce the Shari'a principle, that criticism of Islam is a punishable offence, thus bringing Europe ever closer to the radical Muslim goal of Islamizing the West.
February 17, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a state now almost completely under the political control of the Democrat party, the legislature rather than realistically dealing with California's huge budget deficit [conservatively estimated as being in excess of $19B] is working overtime to further a hard-left, anti-life, anti-family agenda.
Take for example SB 48, authored by Mark Leno [D-Marin] and co-sponsored by Tom Ammiano, [D-SF] Loni Hancock, [D-Berkeley] and Leland Yee, [D-SF].
This is a briefly worded but dangerous bill. The LGBT [lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgendered] caucus is demanding access to every school-age child, from pre-kindergarten to high school for the purpose of providing class time instruction within the social sciences curriculum, regarding the alleged historical significance and supposed contributions of the homosexual community to the development of California and the United States.
The parties spotlighted in what is clearly propaganda, will be chosen not because of any real historical significance but simply because of their sexual orientation. The bill is aimed most specifically toward the younger child in what is referred to as the latency period of development, meaning their years of innocence. There is no opt-out allowance for a child to be removed from this indoctrination.
In 2007 a similar bill, SB 777, by then Sen. Sheila Kuehl, was vetoed by Gov. Schwarzenegger. However, it was endorsed by the state and local PTA groups because it, like SB 48, according to a PTA spokesperson, was worded to appear to be an anti-discrimination bill when, in fact, these bills appear to be a recruiting device.
Left unsaid in this debate is that in reality, real discrimination exists however it is against the Christian and heterosexual communities. Since this bill brings in religion it can also be used to instruct students in non-traditional religions such as secular humanism.
February 16, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a move that probably surprised no one even marginally informed about Middle Eastern politics, TeamObama's little democratic experiment in Egypt, has already borne fruit.
According to a statement appearing on the Muslim Brotherhood's website [see, http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=28023] "The Muslim Brotherhood's media spokesman Dr. Essam El Erian has stated that...gradual reform must begin now...Hence the MB confirms that the group stands firmly behind the demands of the Egyptian people as a whole and in moving forward, envisions the establishment of a democratic, civil state that draws on universal measures of freedom and justice, with central Islamic values...Mohsen Rady an MB leader agreed adding once an official legitimate committee has been formed it will apply to become an official party..."
In another piece carried on the Ikhwan's website, we note some of the initial changes which the group is demanding during the process of constitutional "reform" now underway.
"...the constitutional reform panel has been commissioned by the military council to change the same six articles in the Egyptian Constitution...The abolition of Article 179 which restricts people's freedoms and rights in the name of security will be considered along with amendments to articles 76, 77, 88, 93, and 189. Article 76 restricts the ability to nominate presidential candidates; article 77 does not set a limit for presidential terms; article 88 limits judicial oversight of elections; article 93 grants parliament sole authority for determining the legitimacy of MP memberships and article 189 gives the president and the People's Assembly exclusive rights to amend the constitution..."
February 14, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - As we noted in a Jan 3 article Muslim Brotherhood's Agitation Continues, Using Pretext Of Alexandria, Egypt Church Bombing though in some forums the Muslim Brotherhood claims moderation, the Egyptian terrorist group just can't stop itself from pressing the hard-core, revolutionary Islamist line which has inspired countless jihadists.
A case in point is today's edition of the Ikhwanweb, the MB's official English language website, where we find an article suggesting that so-called supporters of ex-president Mubarak, including journalists who were apparently unwilling to tow the MB philosophical line, are guilty of, "incitement," and of, "working as agents for foreign parties" [see, http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=28017].

Krugman wrote last week about the "food crisis, the second one to hit the world in the last three years." His key statement: "what really stands out is the extent to which severe weather events have disrupted agricultural production. And these severe weather events are exactly the kind of thing we'd expect to see as rising concentrations of greenhouse gases change our climate-which means that the current food prices surge may be just beginning."
What warming? The puny 0.2 degrees C we've had since 1940?
February 10, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - An editorial published in today's LA Times [see, http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/editorials/la-ed-king-20110210,0,1479817.story] dealing with the topic of the radicalization of domestic Muslims, suggests that Rep. Peter King [R-NY] "hasn't identified such a threat..."
"If the radicalization of American Muslims is, as King suggests, a significant and growing threat to the nation's security, then hearings should by all means be held. The problem is that King hasn't identified such a threat, and certainly not at a level that would justify singling out one religion to be targeted for special scrutiny."
That assertion is so ridiculous that it doesn't bear comment, as King has made the point clearly and repeatedly that after 9/11 growing numbers of Islamic Americans have indeed been radicalized, though for the thick headed LA Times editors one might think that the case of Maj. Hassan should suffice as proof enough.
This type of editorial is all too common in America's largely über
liberal media, take positions reflexively with little or no factual basis to support them, simply in order to keep their lefty bona-fides.
February 9, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In what should prove to be a pivotal moment in the current climate of "re-evaluating" the Muslim Brotherhood, the Egyptian terrorist organization, two writers from Palestinian Media Watch [Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik] have translated an important official Muslim Brotherhood text, "Jihad is the Way."
The English version of this treatise on jihad will be a revelation to those who claim, with little evidence, that the Ikhwan can be legitimate participants in any democratic process since they seek Islamic supremacy over the entire world.
Some relevant sections:
"National goal: Islamic world domination - ...the Islamic Ummah [nation]... can regain its power and be liberated and assume its rightful position which was intended by Allah, as the most exalted nation among men , as the leaders of humanity..."
Know your status, and believe firmly that you are the masters of the world, even if your enemies desire your degradation...
It should be known that Jihad and preparation towards Jihad are not only for the purpose of fending-off assaults and attacks of Allah's enemies from Muslims, but are also for the purpose of realizing the great task of establishing an Islamic state and strengthening the religion and spreading it around the world..."
On the religious responsibility of jihad incumbent upon all Muslims:
"Means: Jihad - a mandatory religious duty - Then comes the power of arms and weapons,... and this is the role of Jihad."
Jihad is a religious public duty... incumbent upon the Islamic nation, and is a personal duty to fend off the infidels' attack on the nation..."
"And the youth should know that the problems of the Islamic world, such as Palestine, Afghanistan, Syria, Eritrea, or the Philippines, are not issues of territories and nations, but of faith and religion. They are problems of Islam and all Muslims, and their resolution cannot be negotiated and bargained by recognizing the enemy's right to the Islamic land he stole, therefore, there is no other option but Jihad for Allah, and this is why Jihad is the way."

On the need to establish a world-wide Islamic Caliphate:

As one can clearly see from even this brief transcript, the Muslim Brotherhood and every individual and organization which subscribes to its philosophy should be considered a carrier of a threat doctrine dedicated to overturning the world political order and establishing - under force of arms, persuasion and sedition - a global Islamic theocracy operating under Shari'a.
Note to the U.S. State Department, official Washington and Team Obama. It's far past time to face reality, name our common enemy and get on with the process of utterly destroying it.
February 9, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - On Saturday evening January 29, Dutch radio and TV news programs reported that Zahra Bahrami, a Dutch-Iranian woman aged 45, had been hanged for drug smuggling in the notorious Evin prison in the Iranian capital of Tehran. Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal commented: "I am deeply shocked by this outrageous act by this barbaric regime. I wish to add that I was told yesterday (by Iranian ambassador Gharib Abadi, V.) that the judicial process was not finished and the next day Mrs. Bahrami was hanged. It took me by surprise. I strongly recommend Dutch-Iranian citizens not to travel to Iran. We will freeze official contacts with Iran." Rosenthal later told parliament he had been fooled by the Iranians. The Iranians lamely commented the hanging of Mrs. Bahrami was just an internal issue others should not interfere with. Iran also accused the Netherlands of supporting "a terrorist organization," possibly referring to the Mujaheddin-e-Khalq (MKO). They failed to substantiate their assertion. Moreover, this accusation is an outright lie. The Dutch government never ever supported such an organization. MKO is more active in Germany and France where they are closely monitored by domestic intelligence and security services.
The Dutch press reported on January 5 that Zahra Bahrami had been found guilty of drug smuggling and sencented to death by a court in Tehran. (The death penalty itself had been pronounced a few days earlier, though.) The death sentence was then carried out later that month.
However, it was on January 17, twelve days before that execution, that the Press Section of the Iranian Embassy in The Hague published a misleading letter in the Dutch daily newspaper NRC Handelsblad claiming Mrs. Bahrami's trial had been legal. "The verdict is not yet final and still needed to be approved by the Minister of Justice," the Press Section asserted. "The Iranian justice system does not recognize dual nationality," they added. As if they wanted to warn other "politically unreliable" Dutch-Iranians not to count of diplomatic protection by the Netherlands in case they run into trouble in Iran.
February 7, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The Muslim Brotherhood or the Ikhwan as it is known in Arabic, is a revolutionary Muslim organization which was founded in 1928 by Hasan al-Banna, an Egyptian school teacher.
It was created along the same organizing principles which guide Sunni Wahhabism - the official extremist Muslim sect of the Saudi Kingdom. Al-Banna thought that Islam had strayed in modern times away from the very strict, fundamentalism of the time of Mohammed. Therefore he sought to purify Islam, reverting to what he believed to be its true form, more rigid, less accommodative, more combative and keyed to conversion.
The Brotherhood's key intellectual was Sayyid Qutb. He was educated in the U.S. for a period of time in the late 1940s. During his college years he became increasingly scandalized by what he called the decadence and capitalistic spirit of American society, he was especially offended by the libertine way college men and women openly fraternized.
Returning to Egypt, he joined the Muslim Brotherhood and proceeded to write what might be called the bible of jihad, entitled "Milestones." In it he preached strict observance of Shari'a, or Islamic law as the sole organizing principle for all of humanity. In his mind Islam was a truly revolutionary ideology.
Qutb believed that Islam, as David Cook1. explains was, "nowhere present on the contemporary stage other than in the heart of the believers...abandoned by the elites and rulers...Therefore it is necessary for Muslims to revive Islam and fight..."
Just to show how influential Qutb's work is still considered by key jihadists, Ayman al-Zawahiri, bin-Laden's second in command and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, stated, "Sayyid Qutb's call for loyalty to God's oneness and to acknowledge God's sole authority and sovereignty was the spark that ignited the Islamic revolution against the enemies of Islam at home and abroad..."
February 4, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Of current interest has been the expanded use by President Obama, of his Executive Orders privilege to assume a greater authority over issues than any previous president, by amending, upgrading and expanding the reach of a multitude of Executive Orders.
Many of the federal bills from the last term which failed, ended up being written into the most recent Executive Orders regarding Workforce Development. This covers a broad range of issues such as nutrition and an examination of federal rules and regulations with a view toward placing limitations on such and curtailing and limiting various functions of the legislative branch of government while expanding the authority of the Executive Administration?s authority over health and welfare, employment, environmental and the above referenced nutritional issues.
Governor Jerry Brown?s State of the State message calling for a re-examination of state rules and regulations for conducting state business are but an echo of President Obama?s Executive Order as are all the other issues pre-occupying the activities of the California legislature.
Also, the fact that the Anti-Proposition 8 people have not achieved the goals they sought through the court (yet) has not stopped them from using the legislature now to further their agenda of recruitment of our children into their ranks.

Hood jihad, produced by Senators, Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins, of the Senate Homeland Security Committee [see, http://hsgac.senate.gov/public/_files/Fort_Hood/FortHoodReport.pdf] charged the national security infrastructure, civilian, military and intelligence with a massive failure to identify Major Nidal Hasan as having become a radical Muslim, transforming himself into a domestic member of the mujahideen.
Below, excerpted from the report.
"Our basic conclusion is as follows...the FBI had specific information concerning the time, place, or nature of the attack, they collectively had sufficient information to have detected Hasan's radicalization to violent Islamist extremism but failed both to understand and to act on it. Our investigation found specific and systemic failures in the government's handling of the Hasan case and raises additional concerns about what may be broader systemic issues."

It's clear that Hasan's metamorphosis, though obvious to his co-workers, was nonetheless ignored:
"Evidence of Hasan's radicalization to violent Islamist extremism was on full display to his superiors and colleagues during his military medical training...A JTTF learned that Hasan was communicating with the Suspected Terrorist [editorial note: Anwar al-Awlaki] flagged Hasan's initial [REDACTED] communications for further review... the ensuing inquiry failed to identify the totality of Hasan's communications and to inform Hasan's military chain of command and Army security officials of the fact that he was communicating with a suspected violent Islamist extremist - a shocking course of conduct for a U.S. military officer."

Mohammed ElBaradei,the former head of the IAEA has become a top contender for leader of a transition government in Egypt even though he says that he "does not necessarily want to replace" Mubarak. He has strong ties to Iran and would include the Muslim Brotherhood in any ruling coalition. Experts say that ElBaradei who is anti-American and anti-Israel is being used by the Muslim Brotherhood as front man in order to come to power. According to Israel National News, "the radical Muslim Brotherhood has become more vocal in its calls for Mubarak's resignation, drowning out several opposition groups that have accepted an offer by newly-appointed vice president Omar Suleiman to negotiate." ElBaradei has said that Friday will be the day that Mubarak leaves the country and that if he does not, he will be "a dead man walking."
February 2, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The newly redesigned website for imam Rauf's triumphalist 9/11 mosque project contains a featured section entitled, "Park 51 and Patriotism," written by a lefty lawyer [Seema Saifee ] and mouthpiece for a group of Uighur terrorists who were captured on Afghanistan's battlefields.
Ms. Saifee's argument is that establishing the mosque is consistent with America's respect for religious freedom. However, she seems to have difficulty internalizing how the religious freedom argument [one of many, for sure] which the founders used to justify severing ties with the motherland gnaws against the hand she is attempting to play here.
What the settlers from the old world resisted was the idea of the state imposing a religion, any religion. Specifically, this meant they were rebelling against the Anglican church, the Church of England, established as a breakaway from Roman authority when the pope would not grant Henry VIII the divorce which he sought.
It could have been any religion and that is the key point.
Though she is apparently unmindful of the contradiction, using her logic, Islam of the type that Mr. Rauf espouses [judging from his numerous statements] is exactly what the Founding Fathers detested and why they would have never entertained supporting this provocative undertaking.
It is difficult to find any Muslim society in which religious freedom has any meaning. It is simply the nature of Islam as it is now popularly practiced. In those societies Islamic law is the law.
People like Mr. Rauf, Ms. Saifee and their cohorts present a picture of the religion which is at odds with reality, and that reality is the looming presence of Shari'a as the guiding principle for Muslims...and non-Muslims alike.

The following item is very interesting, in that court documents once again establish the ties between the Ikhwan and terrorism, in this case its relationship with the Pale terror group Hamas, the reference is to MB Deputy Chairman, Kheirat Al-Shatar.
January 31, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - According to the liberal press [a redundancy for sure] Americans should view news of what appears to be an eventual Muslim Brotherhood triumph in Egypt as a good thing; good for Egypt in that it purportedly represents a consequent triumph of democracy and good for the United States since we will no longer be tied to the despised in, some circles, Hosni Mubarak presidency.
On the Atlantic Magazine Wire [see, Caitlin Dickinson, The Muslim Brotherhood: The Future Of Egypt?, http://www.theatlanticwire.com/opinions/view/opinion/The-Muslim-Brotherhood-The-Future-of-Egypt-6780] we find a posting, a regurgitation really of material already published on other liberal sources such as the Huff Post, extolling the moderate nature of the MB.
Writes Cara Parks, HuffPost, "...the Muslim Brotherhood is known both for its support of democracy and its criticism of American foreign policy..."
Will England, WashPost, "For most of its existence in Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has refrained from violence against the state. It is not the organization of radical jihadists that it is sometimes made out to be...."
Paraphrasing Think Progressives' Tonya Somander, "Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei's appearance on Fareek [sic] Zakaria's CNN show in which he denounced such assertions as "a myth perpetuated and sold by the Mubarak regime," insisting that the religiously conservative group is a minority in Egypt, but has a lot of credit because they are interested in a secular state..."
That should be enough to assess the tenor of where the MSM is coming from on Egypt and the Ikhwan; willful ignorance elevated to a virtue.
In the real world, the influence which the Muslim Brotherhood exerts is a continuation of the hard line it established in 1928 when Hassan Al Banna created the organization with the expressed intent of spreading a Wahhabist type Islam throughout not only Egypt but the entire world. This ideology was codified by the MB's theoretician Sayyid Qutb, author of what has become the jihadist playbook, "Milestones."

"Once the Muslim Brotherhood announced their participation in the Day of Rage protest scheduled for Tuesday, January 25th, Brotherhood bloggers promoted a banner across Facebook pages entitled "I'm a MB member who will demonstrate on January 25..."
The same anonymously authored article on Ikhwanweb, the Muslim Brotherhood's official website, charged the embattled and aging president with being in league with the "Zionists," "MB blogger, Sheriff Abdel-Hamid Heshmat from "Bloggers against Abu Hasira group", said, "We say no to Mubarak and his corrupt regime that allowed the Zionists to desecrate the sanctity of the Egyptian land, Damanhur. The government allows Jews to flock to Egypt every year to visit the shrine of Abu Hasira and implement US-Zionist schemes." [source, Ikhwanweb]
The Muslim Brotherhood has been violently suppressed throughout much of its history, understandably since the MB's intent is to turn back secularism and install a Shari'a based government.
Seeing the great political opportunities presented by civil unrest, the Ikhwan is engaging in a full court press to weaken Mubarak in anticipation of the September elections, the second in Egypt's history. The right of a president to issue Executive Orders, carrying the weight of law and establishing certain regulations, has been around since George Washington's time. His first Order by President Washington, in 1792, established a mint for the purpose of regulating coinage in the United States, establishing the value of each denomination.
For the first 100 years of our constitutional government, 1792 and 1892, 45 Executive orders were issued. The last six presidents have issued anywhere between 2 to 5 a month each with Bill Clinton amassing a whopping 415 E.O.'s during his eight years in office followed by George W. Bush running a distant second with 291.

January 21, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - According to an unsettling report by Aaron Klein of World Net Daily, the imam who recently took the lead position in the fight to establish a huge mosque at New York's ground zero - Abdallah Adhami - is so thoroughly steeped in Wahhabism that he stated in a 2008 lecture that Muslims should claim Moses as one of their own and that Muslims have more "right" to his lineage than Jews.
"Muslims have "more of a right" than Jews to the biblical prophet Moses, declared the imam who has become the new face of the proposed Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero...Imam Abdallah Adhami also urged Muslims to "compete" with other religions..."We must be doing it first, we must compete with you to be doing more of that. Adhami has replaced the embattled imam Feisal Rauf as chief public spokesman for the proposed mega-mosque.
The disclosure is simply another bit of evidence proving that the plan to build the mosque is not a peaceful and healing gesture but rather an effort to erect a triumphalist totem to Islamic conquest on hallowed ground.
The New York coterie of political hacks who support this effort had better take note, it 's now part of the public record that this mosque is intended to serve as a beachhead for radical Muslims to spread their religious bigotry.

January 20, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In December 2010 I reported that Christian asylum seekers in three thirds of the asylum seekers centers in Holland (so-called "AZC's") are seriously intimidated by Muslim asylum seekers. Too many Muslim converts to Christianity - often refugees from totalitarian Muslim societies - live in fear. However, the problem of harassing or attacking Christians is much more widespread. Many Christians in Iraq are persecuted by radical Muslims who bomb their churches, kill their pastors and priests. Many of them flee to the West. (Some them end up in Dutch asylum seekers centers where they once again face harassment by militant Muslims.) Coptic churches in Egypt have also been bombed. There was a major terror attack on a Coptic church in Alexandria, Egypt, on New Year's day, when 25 Coptic Christians were killed.
Iran's "Press TV", Lebanon's Grand Mufti, a Muslim Brotherhood official and an Egyptian lawyers group suggested that agents of the Israeli Mossad - "zionist fingerpints" - were behind the church blast. In a recent essay Raymond Ibrahim, author of the noteworthy book "The Al Qaeda Reader," points out that "Islamists accuse Egypt's Christians of behaving like? Islamists." "Islamists regularly abduct, abuse, brainwash, and compel Coptic girls to convert - and now Copts are accused of doing the exact same thing; Islamists regularly smuggle and stockpile weapons, including in their holy places - and now Copts are accused of doing the exact same thing. January 19, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In an interview given to Politico [see, http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0111/47756.html] Representative Peter King, the Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, essentially claimed that the self-appointed spokesmen for American Islam are only giving lip service to ending the threat of Muslim terrorism.
"...It's the fact that there's a real threat coming from this attempted radicalization of the community and it's, in many ways, coming from overseas...The leadership of the community is not geared to cooperation..."
The tactic these pressure groups have employed is intentionally deceptive and hints at a more sinister motive, generating endless streams of public relations statements suggesting cooperation, while in private, counseling the Muslim community, the Umma to "Build a wall of resistance, don't talk to the FBI," as CAIR California recently did [see image inset and Fox News, http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/01/13/cair-says-anti-fbi-poster-misinterpreted/] then disingenuously countering [after hastily pulling the poster from its website] that it was all a big misunderstanding.
As he has stated on many occasions, until September 11, 2001 King enjoyed an excellent relationship with New York's Muslim leaders, but that all ended after the attacks as the alphabet soup of - often foreign influenced - Islamist pressure groups adding insult to injury, embarking on a nationwide snake-oil tour, crying Islamophobia, when none existed.
January 17, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Writing for Family Security Online, Lt. Col James Zumwalt [USMC, Ret.] makes the claim that without the active support of Pakistan, the U.S. will be unsuccessful in defeating the Afghan Taliban and hence see victory slip through its fingertips.
Zumwalt - like many knowledgeable observers - bemoans the loss of former Pak president Musharraf, who was far more dedicated to fighting the jihadis, than the current leader, Mr. Zardari, "But with the resignation of strongman Musharraf in August 2008 and his replacement by Asif Ali Zadari, the same military commitment to containing the militants in FATA was not there..." Actually, Lt. Col. Zumwalt might be painting a rosier picture than reality might suggest. While he seems to suggest that it is possible to find common ground between U.S. and Pakistani security interests, he fails to sufficiently factor in the mindset of most Pakistanis, including the country's leadership - this is a deeply fundamentalist, paranoid and expansionist Islamic society. Fact is, at base level Pakistan is doctrinally more in tune with the Taliban than it is with the West.
It is not for any lack of knowledge that the jihadi influence continues to permeate Pakistan's ISI security force and its military leadership. That level of devotion is a given and unremarkable given societal standards.
This is why we find all of the recent "full out" plans for rooting out the Taliban extremists less than ineffective - the words are there, but the heart is not similarly committed, especially when it seems to them that these actions are being forced on them by the West [i.e., the outside Christian world] and not internally dictated.
January 13, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a piece carried by a Taliban/al-Qaeda friendly website, we find it claimed that 200,000 American Hispanics are converting to Islam each year. Of course the information has since been disseminated by the usual suspects.
The article refers to a Jan. 7 New York Times piece which benignly states, "While the majority of Hispanics in the United States are Catholic, some studies have estimated that there are as many as 200,000 Hispanic converts to Islam in this country..." Obviously, the Times' statement says nothing about yearly conversion, simply absolute numbers.
It seems that some of the basis for the Times' article might be based on a 2006 Christian Science Monitor item, " The population of Hispanic Muslims has increased 30 percent to some 200,000 since 1999, estimates Ali Khan, national director of the American Muslim Council in Chicago..."
So we have a circle of disinformation typical of Islamist propaganda - a legit news source presents conjecture possibly of benefit to Islamist da'wa efforts with no substantiation outside of a Chicago imam's "estimate."
Two factors are at work here, the first being an example of how urban myths come into public consciousness and the second, that there are always parties interested in expanding upon these conspiracy theories for their own political benefit.
January 11, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Almost before the body was cold after the January 7 assassination of Punjab governor Salman Taseer by a member of his inner guard, 500 of Pakistan's religious scholars and imams released a statement condoning the murder, stating that Taseer met a just fate because he violated the country's Shari'a inspired blasphemy laws.
As we noted on the day of the bloodshed [see Assassination Of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer - Pakistani Islamists Silence Critic Of Blasphemy Laws] the killer said that his actions were justifiable under Shari'a, "What makes this a religious based killing of special importance is the role that Mr. Taseer played in speaking out against Pakistan's Shari'a based "blasphemy" laws, which prescribe harsh punishment for those who are thought to have insulted Islam or its prophet, Mohammed. In this case "insulting Islam," was merely Taseer speaking out against a single aspect of Shari'a, with no apparent or consequent criticism of the religion itself. [note: Taseer's killer stated under interrogation that his motive was the governor's opposition to the blasphemy laws]..."
The killer's stated reason for acting, far from being an anomaly in this overwhelmingly Muslim country, appears to be the consensus opinion of a substantial portion of Pakistan's Islamic scholars, who find the death penalty for blasphemy thoroughly consistent with the Qur'an and the accompanying Sunnah.
According to MEMRI's translation, the clerics' statement read in part:
"[The clerics] asked Muslims, in a joint statement, not to express any sympathy or sorrow over the assassination of Punjab Governor Salman Taseer, declaring that no one should participate in his funeral prayer or try to lead the prayer. Those who support the perpetrators of blasphemy against Prophet [Muhammad] are also blasphemers. Lauding the bravery and sense of honor for faith and religion of the Prophet's lover Ghazi Malik Mumtaz Hussain, who assassinated the governor, the leaders and clerics of Jamaat Ahl-e-Sunnat said that this brave person has maintained the 1400 years of Muslim tradition, and has held the heads of 1.5 billion Muslims of the world high with pride..."

A senior Pentagon official has divulged that Hizbullah has 50,000 rockets and missiles, including 40-50 Fatah 110 missiles and 10 SCUD-C ground-to-ground missiles. Furthermore, some 10,000 Hizbullah fighters have been provided with a broad range of modern weapons, while the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have trained Hizbullah teams to operate these weapons."
This Iranian effort is not restricted to the Middle East but is worldwide in its scope, "The Iranian intelligence services, operating in the framework of the Revolutionary Guards, have built many cells in Africa, most of which rely on Shiite emigrants from Lebanon. This is being undertaken in the framework of the African Division of the Jerusalem Corps of the Guards, an effort headed by Gen. Qassem Suleymani. After training in Iran, they serve as a nucleus for recruiting others and provide a base for Iranian intelligence activity in their countries."
"We see the upcoming King hearings, rather than being divisive, serving as a litmus test for these American Muslim organizations. If over the next few weeks and months CAIR, ISNA, MPAC resolve to support the goal of the hearings and positively participate in them, they will have demonstrated a willingness to make a laudable difference.
If on the other hand, they continue to allege that there is no problem with increasing radicalization among American Muslims and that King and his ilk are Islamophobes, beating up on a "peaceful" Islam, then their agenda will become obvious for all to see and they will no longer have cover under which to hide."
It didn't take long for America's self-appointed Muslim spokesmen to slam King and the hearings for promoting Islamophobia, with CAIR stating on Jan 3, "Rep. Peter King's plan to investigate the "radicalization of the American Muslim community and homegrown terrorism" is the knee-jerk reflex of a demagogue who has made a career out of inflaming people's fears...."

January 6, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Along with several other politicians who have made the same decision, Florida State Representative Ari Porth has cancelled his speaking engagement at this weekend?s Fort Lauderdale conference for the Islamic Society of North America [ISNA], due to information he received about the group's underlying ideology.
Joe Kaufman, Chairman of Americans Against Hate, a watchdog group concerned about the spread of Islamism, has organized a protest against the planned ISNA meeting. It will take place this coming Saturday, in downtown Fort Lauderdale, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.
In an AAH press release, Mr. Kaufman said he provided representative Porth with proof of ISNA's radical ideology, its questionable relationships and how it has used its website, "to propagate hate..."
January 5, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - The head of the Dutch Freedom Party Geert Wilders has called upon the Chief of Police in Amsterdam to enforce the law or resign. Bernard Welten announced on a television program that if a burqa ban were to be implemented he would practice civil disobedience and not arrest anyone breaking the law.
Other politicians have also reacted furiously to Welten's comments and urged Security and Justice Minister Opstelten to make Welten retract his statements or resign.

January 4, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi, a preeminent radical Muslim spokesman, co-founder of IslamOnline and currently the president of the International Union for Muslim Scholars [IUMS] has, on the Muslim Brotherhood's website - Ikhwanweb - expressed outrage over the recent bombing of a Coptic Christian church in Alexandria, Egypt, calling the perpetrators, "criminals, assassins."
Advancing a line familiar to Muslim apologists, he engages in takfir, declaring that the perpetrators of Islamic fueled violence are not Muslim, asserting they are, "...non-Muslims because Islam asserts the sanctity of human life and strongly prohibits aggression against it." 1.
If this was taking place in a vacuum, or came from a less influential source, it would be easily dismissible. Unfortunately that is not the case here.
A graduate of the Islamic world's most prestigious jihad factory, Al-Azhar, al-Qaradawi's name is indelibly linked with the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the reasons why he fled Egypt and now lives in Qatar.
January 3, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - In a January 1 article published by Ikhwanweb, the Muslim Brotherhood's official English website [see, http://www.ikhwanweb.com/article.php?id=27728] the Muslim Brotherhood [MB, Ikhwan - Muslim brothers - in Arabic] railed against the terror bombing of a Christian church in Alexandria, Egypt, " The Muslim Brotherhood vehemently condemns the criminal blast outside Alexandria's church..."
Two days later, on January 3, the same site published a piece which continued to develop the narrative which comprised the last portion of the Jan 1 posting, attacking the Egyptian government for its failure to deal with security, "The attack comes after Egypt's interior ministry promised it would increase security around Christian sites following threats on Egyptian Christians by Al-Qaeda in Iraq and a year after another attack on Coptic Christians - a drive-by shooting in the town of Nag Hammadi that left six Christians and one Muslim dead."
The kicker in the Jan. 3 piece is that it cynically uses the church bombing to attack the MB's main domestic enemy, the Mubarak government, "The Arabic Network expressed its concern that terrorism will be an excuse to impose more restrictions on civil and political freedoms under the pretext of combating terrorism, especially when the international community is complicit with shameful silence; overlooking rigged elections that resulted in an illegitimate parliament and declaring their satisfaction with fragile stability at the expense of democracy."
The network referred to above is ANHRI, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information, a group which regularly defends the MB [see, http://www.anhri.net/en/?s=muslim+brotherhood]. Groups such as ANHRI join with similarly motivated organizations to assail governments, many of which are dealing with Islamic terrorism, to become more "democratic."
The methodology here is to force these countries to engage in the ephemera of democracy including "free" elections. In the case of Egypt this would mean "one man-one vote-one time," resulting in an Islamic theocracy run by the Muslim Brotherhood.
January 2, 2011 - San Francisco, CA - PipeLineNews.org - A piece published by the WashTimes [see, Egypt Church Bombing Probe Focuses On Local Group, http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/jan/2/egypt-church-bombing-probe-focuses-local-group/] and authored by AP is typically absurd, ignoring the country's largest, most influential Islamist group, the Muslim Brotherhood, as a radicalizing factor.
"Egypt does, however, have a rising movement of Islamic hard-liners who, while they do not advocate violence, adhere to an ideology similar in other ways to al Qaeda. There have been fears they could be further radicalized by sectarian tensions. The hard-liners, known as Salafis, have a large and active presence in Alexandria..."
Salafism is a very old Muslim sect, whose adherents seek to return to the "purity" of early Islam, a sentiment similar [and compatible] with that of the Wahhabists, who dominate Saudi religious orthodoxy.
The resurgence of fundamentalist Islam is not new in Egypt or anywhere in the Muslim world by any means, with scholars tracing the turn towards radicalization to the inception of what has become its chief proponent, the Muslim Brotherhood, created in 1928 by Hassan Al Banna.
It's noteworthy to observe that Salafism is referred to favorably and often on the Brotherhood's English language website.

The researchers assessed land around the world based on its soil quality, slope, and regional climate. They added degraded or low-quality cropland but ruled out any good cropland, pasture, or forests; they also assumed no irrigation. They came up with the surprising total 2.7 million sq. miles of marginal land that could be available for switchgrass or other biofuel crops.
